Making money – What works?

September 18, 2007 by Tricia

I just finished writing a post on one of my tech blogs The Webfiles where I talk about some of the affiliate and advertising programs that I use to monetize my sites.

I think I’ll do a series about the programs that have been working for me and how to attempt to balance advertising on a site with maintaining traffic.

As I wrote the post I visited some of the affiliate programs that I discussed and saw a number of new features. I’ll probably discuss pay for performance type programs too. So, if you are interested in successfully monetizing your website do keep an eye on The Webfiles as I’m sure I’ll have some great information to share with you.

Overworked? A little …

September 14, 2007 by Tricia

I’m seriously going nuts trying to keep up with all my blogs.

I’ve been accepting work for the blogs and perhaps I’ve taken on too much. It just seems like all I do all day is type, type and type some more.

I’m actually pretty happy with the work I’ve been offered. I’ve found all the products and sites I’ve been writing about interesting and I hope my readers have as well. There’s nothing wrong with writing about alcohol rehabs occasionally, but it’s nice to have articles that really fit well with my sites.

I just need a few more hours in each day to get them done. Sigh …

Ask permission first!

September 12, 2007 by Tricia

I so ticked off. Yesterday I came across a website that had used one of my photos in a post. I decided to politely let the person know that it was my photo and that it’s common courtesy to ask a photographer permission to use their photos and or to link back to the site that you found the photo on.

The person wrote back to me basically telling me to “Prove it”. Geshhhh! They said they found the photo on Flickr … yeah in my Flickr account!

Folks, if you want to use someone else’s photos in your post ask permission. Most people will say yes if you promise to give them credit for the photo and hopefully a link back to their site.

Who works at home?

August 31, 2007 by Tricia

It’s strange. When I think back to just a few years ago I barely knew anyone who worked from home. I’m sure there were lots of people working out of home offices or running small businesses from their home. I think there always has been … but now that I work at home myself I think that the amount of people that I know who work 100% from their home has increased substantially.

Sure, I also know a lot of people that work from home on a part time basis. I suppose I’ve always been in that category. Having been a jeweller in the past you can’t get away from the business. I still get rings and other jewelry made for friends and family. I’ve also done part time work from home doing web graphics and creating web sites for others. Now of course I have several websites and I earn money through various forms of advertising, writing and even by selling my photography.

There’s lots of ways to make money from home though isn’t there. I know some people that make beaded jewelry at home, and others that sell it online or in person. Actually I know quite a few people who have online stores too.

If you work at home what kind of business or work do you do?

A new partnership

August 30, 2007 by Tricia

If you read my other blogs you might have noticed that my blogs As the Garden grows and Tricia’s Musings are part of the Glam Network. I was invited into the network and accepted into their special advertising partner network.

One benefit of the Glam Network, other than my sites being listed on their sites, getting some extra traffic and occasionally having posts featured is that my contact there occasionally writes to members of the network with special offers. Sometimes it’s advanced news about movies or new products, big events that sometimes include celebrities or even other advertising opportunities.

A couple of months ago my contact wrote to me to tell me about a company that was looking for advertising partners. I responded and within the next few days I’ll enter into a special advertising partnership with this company.

Naturally this partnership is yet another way for me to earn a little bit of money. Hopefully it works better than some of the other things I’ve tried. I think it will since it’s a special partnership.

I don’t want to say which company it is just yet. You’ll know when it happens though. This company has some great items for the home, garden as well as clothing and fashion accessories. I do hope that you like the products as I’ll occasionally discuss items that interest me on this site and some of my other blogs.

Wish me luck?
