People abusing do followers kindness

June 18, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been noticing a trend that disturbs me lately. I run the do follow blogroll and of course my sites are listed on it. In the past week there have been a number of people going around and leaving comments on all of my blogs and using website addresses rather than blog addresses in their signature.

Now, yes, I realize that no everyone has a blog, and some website owners do like to read blogs and leave comments. That’s not my beef. It’s people going around listing various different pages of their website in their signature and leaving comments that either don’t really go well with the post, or comments such “oh with the title of that post and your blog description I thought I’d find something like that here”. Maybe innocent enough, but when you see practically the same comment on a few posts on the same blog or on a few different blogs that you own you start to believe that people are just coming by to leave a link since your blog follows.

I love getting comments on my posts. However I’m starting to feel a bit used.

The do follow blogroll has been copied on to several sites and the people that are abusing the gift of links that follow are not members of the blogroll.

I set my blogs to follow because I want to reward my commenter’s for participating in the discussion and for hopefully being regular visitors. Those of us who have chosen to remove the nofollow tags from our blogs lose a tiny bit of our sites PR every time someone leaves a comment.

I would hope that those that leave comments can see why we want valid comments and not just spam to promote another persons site or to get a free link.

If you are following the blogs on the Do Follow Blogroll and leaving comments please only leave valid comments that add to the conversation of the post and don’t abuse our kindness.

Tired of waiting for work

May 22, 2007 by Tricia

Does anyone else do work on the internet to make some extra cash? I do, but you know, sometimes I find that it’s a big waste of time. I love getting assignments and being able to do them when I want to. I can whip off a lot of work in an hour or two when I just sit down and do the work.

However, one of the companies that I do work for is basically first come first served and while I don’t sit here staring at the computer screen all day waiting for work, I do keep the site open from the time I get up, to the time I go to bed at night, watching and waiting for good opportunities to come up. The work I do for that company, when I get work, amounts to maybe an hour or two worths a day, but when you add up all the time throughout the day that I glance at the site hoping something will come up well … I waste an awful lot of time on it!

Yep, I love my reserved work, and of course the money I make just by putting code up on my sites such as for Google Adsense. Speaking of Adsense, I should put some on this site too I think.

This site just got page rank!

May 2, 2007 by Tricia

Amazing! I started this site at the end of February, and Google started doing it’s dance sometime around the end of April.

I haven’t been working on this site anywhere near as much as I work on all the rest, but since a few of the others went up in page rank I visited this site to see if it at least bumped up to a PR1 from a zero and guess what? It’s a PR3!

I’m sure it helped that this blog is in on the same domain or uh is a sub-domain of my oldest domain. The site that is on the domain triciaswaterdragon.com was started in 1995 on a non profit domain called icomm.ca and when they shut down in 2003 or 2004 I started this domain. So the sites been around for a long time, and the domain – well not so long but longer than any of my others. I guess that’s why this sub-domain picked up PR so quickly.

It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that as soon as I start a site I list it in all the directories could it? 😉 Nah …

Computer problem update!

April 26, 2007 by Tricia

Our computer part was delivered within about four days! Yeah!

We installed the power supply and uhm … our A drive didn’t want to work- we’d get an error message on start up and got that message to go into the bios and fix the problem or push F2? to continue.

After contacting the power supply seller about the problem and discovering that he had no idea how to fix it we simply disabled to A drive. We never use the 3.5 discs anymore anyway.

So now I have my desktop computer back, and as a result my husband has more time on the laptop.

Need Direction

March 15, 2007 by Tricia

I’m still trying to decide what I’m going to do with this new site.

When I created this blog I thought that it would either be a truly general blog, or that I’d make it part of the domain that it’s on and discuss exotic pets on this blog. Such diverse topics huh?

I’m leaning towards making this a general blog. The people that come to the main site of this domain are interested in information about reptiles and that site is jam packed. I’m not sure I could blog about it too. So yeah … lets go with general.
