I have my own tech store

September 18, 2008 by Tricia

I don’t think I’ve mentioned this on My World yet, but I won some fantastic software a few weeks ago in a blog contest. The software is called StoreStacker and it allows you to easily build a store that carries products from Amazon, Ebay, and a few other big online stores.

I built my first store on a sub-domain of one of my Tech blogs and it only took minutes to set up! Well ok … setting up categories for the products etc took a little longer than that, but once it came down to filling the store with products that part only took minutes! It’s amazing! I now have an online store with maybe 5,000 products or perhaps even more than that. I know the sitemap is HUGE!

I set up the store to carry high tech items like computers, computer accessories, computer games, video games like xbox 360 vintage PC’s, HDTV’s, digital cameras and more.

I probably won’t make many sales until I start getting some traffic to the store, but it’s a neat concept and you can’t beat free software! When I have time I create a few more stores – one that fit with my particular sites niches. Those stores will probably do better than the first store that I just created.

Have any of you tried using Storestacker or any other type of software to build your own store almost automatically?

70’s and 80’s fashions are trendy again

August 15, 2008 by Tricia

Earlier today I was reading one of my favorite Canadian fashion magazines. It’s called LouLou.

Now I’m not usually one to read fashion magazines but earlier this year I subscribed to a few because I have some blogs that are related to shopping and well … if you read those kinds of magazines you’ll be up on the latest fashions, trends and deals.

I must say that the fashions this year all seem to be late 70’s to 80’s oriented. As I browsed through my magazine they were showing photos of models in mid-calf skirts and mini skirts and the photos looked almost exactly like ones I’d seen a couple of decades ago in fashion mags.

I actually really like some of the fashion trends for this year, but I must say I’m having flashbacks when I look at some of the designs!

I was only a teenager in the early 80’s, but I was up on current fashions, even if I did have to work with a very limited budget.

It’s not just clothing trends that have a 70’s to 80’s trend – jewelery, makeup and even perfumes are taking their cue from former decades. I can remember when Oscar de la Renta first came out with the perfume Paris, and when wearing Musk scented perfumes were all the rage.

What ’70’s or ’80’s fashion trend are you happy to see back? Are there any styles or trends that you’d gladly never see again? You know like Parachute pants or shoulder pads, big hair, the mullet? πŸ˜‰

Our home theater system isn’t working

August 9, 2008 by Tricia

I’m so ticked off. Our home theater system still doesn’t work. Every time we try to turn it on it says “overload” yet we’ve tried unplugging just about everything that the Home Theater system is connected to (excluding the TV) and it still says overload.

At first we thought there might be a fuse inside that had blown, but now I think it’s just the machine that’s not working right and this is it’s way of telling us.

So the other day Chris and I were in Costco (that’s like Sam’s Club) to do a little shopping and I suggested that we look at new home theater systems. They only had three to choose from and we didn’t really like any of the choices so I guess we’ll keep looking.

I really miss using the home theater system. Chris loved to use it when watching sports – particularly hockey. I could do without that, but it was nice when we’d watch a movie, dvd or when I wanted to listen to music. We had it hooked up to or 200 CD disk player so with the surround sound it was perfect if you were having a party or wanted to listen to music for hours without changing CDs.

I guess we’ll eventually get a new Home Theater system or figure out what really is wrong with our current one. Sometime in the future, when we renovate the basement, the wide screen TV, home theater system, PVR, DVD player, DVD recorder, Disk player and even the home theater seating will all move to the basement. I want that to be our rec room area and as long as our basement stays dry (crossing fingers as it really is a dry basement) it would be a great area for settling in and watching a great movie.

Has your home theater system ever given you and overload message? Ours is a Panasonic. If so, what did you do about it?

Do you ever buy things and then not use them?

July 11, 2008 by Tricia

Last fall I bought and Elliptical machine so that I could get in shape. As it turns out I haven’t used it much in the 8 months or so that it’s been here. Isn’t that terrible?

Do you ever buy things that you end up not using? You know things like buying exercise equipment or some new gadget for your kitchen?

I used to do that with fitness club memberships. When I first moved to Toronto everyone I met had a fitness club membership so I joined the gang and bought a membership too. Only trouble was I never went. I hate that gym atmosphere. I prefer to either exercise alone or to do things outdoors like walking, hiking, biking and things like that. I think over a five year period I bought two or three memberships that I didn’t use before I finally got it through my thick skull to stop spending money on something I was never going to use.

Now I’m not saying that I won’t use the Elliptical. It’s just that I bought it when we got Midnight and she was a tiny sick little puppy and I was also sick with my Crohns (still am) so that made it hard to get into a routine and well … now that it’s summer I’m busy doing things outside. Perhaps this fall …

Great selection of Memory foam mattresses at eBeds

July 9, 2008 by Tricia

At some point in the near future Chris and I will probably get a new bed for our guest room. The bed that’s currently in there was the one that we used in our apartment before we got our house. It’s a double bed. When we bought our house we finally had a bedroom big enough for a queen sized bed so the old bed was saved for the guest room.

A few weeks ago when Chris and I were out shopping I had a chance to lie on a bed with a memory foam mattress and I loved it. Heck … maybe we’ll get one for our bedroom let alone the guest bedroom!

After trying out the bed in the department store I decided to take a look online to see if I could find any companies that sold quality memory foam beds. Through my search I found ebed.com. They sell Bragada mattresses. In fact, Bragada is apparently the only Memory foam mattress in the world to have earned the Orthopedic Research Seal of Approval.

Ever since I first heard about memory foam mattress I had wondered if they offered as much support as traditional mattresses, however after looking at the ebed website I now know that the Tempurpedic Mattress has been constructed with spinal support in mind.

I’m actually very impressed with how well the Tempur-pedic mattresses are made. There are several different styles of memory foam beds to choose from at ebeds.com. When you are viewing information about each of the mattresses you’ll see that there are diagrams showing how each bed is constructed and how each mattress will support your body. The features of each mattress are highlighted as well.

Did you know that when you sleep on a memory foam mattress you’ll have full body pressure relief, no motion transfer, lower and mid back support, reduced tossing and turning, increased body circulation and proper spinal alignment. The mattresses are also anti-mite and anti-allergy. That would be great for both Chris and I as we are both allergic to dust mites.

At Ebeds.com you’ll not only find Tempurpedic memory foam mattresses, but you’ll also find memory foam mattress toppers, adjustable beds, and even RV mattresses. They also offer free delivery Nationwide.

I’m seriously considering getting a memory foam mattress now after viewing the ebeds website. I’d love to hear your experiences with memory foam mattresses if you use one.
