It’s snowing …. Again!

February 21, 2009 by Tricia

Well, I guess I can’t complain all that much that it’s snowing yet again. We’ve had a fairly nice week with temperatures either well above freezing or only just a little below freezing. All the snow that we had melted away. Nice for February … but the nice weather is over for a while.

Chris and I were trying to beat the storm this afternoon. We figured tomorrow would pretty much be a right off for going out and getting the groceries and other shopping done due to the storm, so we headed out late this afternoon before the snow started.

We had planned to go to Andy’s meat terminal off of Warden avenue to get two bags of boneless skinless chicken breasts. Man it’s a deal – 12 to 14 huge chicken breasts for about $35 bucks! The breasts are so big that we only eat one between us so each bag is 12 to 14 meals. Since we’ve been eating so much chicken lately we thought we’d get two bags. That’s a lot of chicken!

Well after we left the meat place we saw a Sportschek store and since Chris has come home complaining of sore feet and sore knees after every work shift for oh the last two or three months we decided to stop in and see if we could find him some good running shoes – well walking shoes since that’s what he does all day. Not only did Chris get a new pair of running shoes but I did too. The ones I’ve been wearing were at least two or three years old and they make my feet sore when I wear them while walking around a lot too. So … over $200 bucks later and we were out of the store and on to Costco to fill my prescriptions and pick up a few other items we needed.

By the time we left Costco at just after 6 pm the snow was falling hard. The city snow plows and sand/salters hadn’t been on any of the major roads were driving on yet either so it was a slippery drive home. It’s times like these that I wish we were on one of those Vegas vacations so we could escape the snow. Now that would be nice.

I think sometime in the middle of next week it’s supposed to warm up again so maybe this snow dump will all melt away again.

Ah … I can’t wait for spring!

Might take advantage of Post Christmas and box day sales tomorrow

December 26, 2008 by Tricia

We have a houseful of guests this Christmas!

Chris’ brother from Chicago and his youngest son (14 years old) are staying over for a few days, and Chris’ cousin and his two kids came over for a visit. So I’m sitting here surrounded by rambunctious, loud talking guys … oh and watching hockey continuously. (fun – not for me!)

I’m not sure what we’re up to tomorrow, but I’d like to get out to some stores and see if there’s anything on sale that we need. I could use new ink for our two printers and if I could find a deal on a Wii Fit I’d love to get one. My guess is that any Wii’s that are on sale will be sold out almost right away. In fact they’re probably already gone!

As I’ve said several times this month we don’t have a lot of extra money so I really shouldn’t go out looking for things to buy … but there’s always things you need, right? If I can find some stuff on sale that would be great.

Are you doing any Post Christmas shopping?

Still shopping for Christmas gifts

December 9, 2008 by Tricia

I’ve slowly been getting our Christmas shopping done, but I’m stuck on a gift for my in-laws. Keep in mind that we have almost no extra money for Xmas this year, so I’ve been being very frugal and imaginative with the Christmas gifts I’ve purchased so far.

My In-laws love to have a movie night at least once a week, and my father in law is really into watching his hockey games. I was thinking of looking at popcorn machines to see if I could find one for a decent price and get it as a gift for them. Obviously they enjoy having a snack when they’re watching movies or hockey so I thought a popcorn machine might be the perfect gift.

How do you go about picking holiday gifts? Do you buy things that you think people need or things that you think (or know) they might want.

Are you getting excited about Black Friday?

November 14, 2008 by Tricia

Now that the US election is over I’m seeing tons of television commercials on TV for 2008 Black Friday sales. With only a week or so until Black Friday I’ve been seeing the commercials during just about every break in the TV shows that I’ve been watching.

Even one of the television shows that I like to watch “Life” did a whole episode where someone had been murdered in a mall that was just about to open for Black Friday! There will probably be a few other shows that make a reference to Black Friday in their stories over the next week or so too.

Here in Canada our big shopping day is Boxing Day which always falls on December 26th. It’s the closest thing we have to a “Black Friday”, and just like our US counterparts, people line up in the middle of the night waiting for the stores and malls doors to open so that they can get some crazy deals.

I wonder if any other countries have one day of the year that’s known as their big shopping day?

Shop and Confess Contest – $33,000 in prizes!

November 11, 2008 by Tricia

I’ve just learned of an interesting contest contest being held by ebillme.com, the company that makes it easy to do your online shopping with cash instead of using credit cards.

So what is this contest all about? Well, they want you to submit either a video or a text shopping confession. It seems like a fun contest and they sure have a lot of great prizes! They are giving away $1,500 every month and have a grand prize of $15,000! Imagine what you could do with either of those cash prizes!

Just get creative and either make a video or write an article about an interesting shopping experience. Perhaps the time you secretly bought a gift for a loved one and how you surprised them with it? Maybe a story about buying your wedding dress or getting an engagement ring for your fiancee? Use your imagination – I’m sure you have an interesting shopping confession to talk about.

Here – take a look at this video for contest details:

What are you waiting for? Go register for the contest and PLEASE do me a favor and tell them blog.triciaswaterdragon.com referred you! I can win a prize if I’m able to refer a lot of people, but you need to tell them my site address! Thanks!
