Shopping online for furniture

June 18, 2007 by Tricia

Do you shop online?

I never used to, but in the past two years I have found that I have been shopping online more and more often, and for a variety of items.

The reason why I’m bringing this up is because I’m interested in redecorating some of the rooms in our house once we finish our renovations. Considering that I’ve had great success purchasing a number of other items online, why not try my hand a purchasing furniture as well?

If you’ve considered this too, you might want to take a moment and visit GreatPricedFurniture.com. They have a large selection of Furniture for every room in the house. You’ll find furnishings for the bedroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, babies nurseries and the home office, specific furnishings for children, as well as artwork to decorate your walls.

I’ve found this site very easy to navigate. Plus, when you select a type of furniture that you’d like to look at, perhaps bedroom furniture, you’ll be taken to a page that breaks everything down into sub-categories with thumbnail images of the type of furnishings in that category.

The bedrooms in our home are very small and I’ve been trying to think of ways to make them look more spacious yet continue to be fully functional. Browsing through the site I just found a section on daybeds. I’d considered daybeds in the past but hadn’t thought of them again for quite a while. Now I see that Great Priced Furniture has three whole pages of daybeds to choose from!

Now that’s something you don’t see in a retail store. Retail stores usually only have a small selection of each type of item. The beauty of shopping online is that you can browse through a stores whole inventory.

The prices of the daybeds look to be quite reasonable and they, just like all the rest of the furnishings sold at this online store, are made by brand name manufactures and are of high quality.

Being in Canada I always check online stores to see if they will deliver to my area and I was pleased to see that Great Priced Furniture does deliver to Canada and international addresses as well as across the continental US.

The store also offers a 30 day money back guarantee.

All in all this seems to be a great online store from which to purchase new furniture for your home. Visit the store and see what you think.

Got new sheets for all the beds!

June 11, 2007 by Tricia

I went shopping earlier today to get some new sheets for our beds. I haven’t purchased new bed linens since we moved in so I thought it was about time to get some new sheets.

I’m actually fairly picky about our bed sheets. I like sheets that have a high thread count as they last longer and often feel more comfortable to sleep in.

One of the little shops that I ended up going into was fantastic. It was like hitting the jackpot. They had everything from bed sets, kids bedding, and sheets for all bed sizes in many different materials and patterns. All of the quality that I wanted.

I ended up walking out of the store with new sheets for our queen, double and twin beds! It wasn’t cheap but I know I purchased quality items that will last a long time so I’m ok with what I ended up spending.

Are you picky about what you sleep in or do you care?

Still trying to figure out our basement reno

May 28, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever redecorated your home? If you have you’ll know that it’s both a joy and a pain in the butt to pick out new home furniture. I’ve been spending what little free time I have looking at furniture related websites, or pouring through catalog’s trying to find the perfect furniture for our basement when we finish our remodeling job.

We have a couch in the basement now that I’d like to keep. It’s a sectional with two captains chair that have nice leg rest, and the longer part of the couch pulls out into a double bed. The double bed is of course the real reason why I’d like to keep the couch.

We do have two spare bedrooms upstairs, but we are hoping to have a child. So, if that works out, at most we’ll have one spare bedroom. It’s always nice to have extra space for people to sleep if they come to visit and we do tend to have a lot of visitors.

So I’m trying to plan our basement reno so that the main part of the basement will be like a den, but because of the pullout couch it could double as a temporary bedroom. When we had boarders I had been thinking about renovating the basement and sectioning off one small part of our tiny basement to use as a bedroom but I think I’ll keep the space as open as possible.

My other idea is to perhaps get a Murphy bed. Murphy beds are ones that fold up into the wall and can look like a nice storage cabinet when not in use. I think I’d have to get a sideways model though if we went that route because our basement ceiling is very low and I don’t think a standing regular murphy bed would work down there at all.

See … planning on refurnishing a room can be interesting … but when you have lots of different ideas about how a room could be used it can take up a lot of your time!

Small re-design of our enclosed back porch

May 16, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been looking for new blinds for our enclosed back porch. It faces south and it’s just so bright. The room gets really hot with the sun pouring in too, so we must do something.

The room was built by the previous home owners. It has different sized, but large windows on the south facing wall, a window and glass paned door on the east side, windows on the west side – that wall adjoins with our neighbors enclosed back porch so those windows have a privacy film on them, and then the wall that leads to the house is brick.

The actually walls that the windows are in are paneled with a dark wood. I’d like to try my hand at lightly whitewashing those walls to brighten the room … yet put nice white mini-blinds on the windows to cut down the glare from the sun. I think the room would be very welcoming if I could pull it off.

What do you think?
