I wish I’d planned our patio better

July 27, 2007 by Tricia

When we created our lovely garden and patio we were planning more for the garden than anything else. While I love our garden I often wish that I’d made our patio area at least 15 square feet larger than it is. Why? Well, we have plenty of room for our really nice patio set, and we have garden beds around two sides of the patio creating a nice intimate feel … but we have no room for our barbecue!

Our barbecue is in the driveway chained to the wall. That’s where we cook. Then we either bring our food to our patio table or back inside if it’s too hot or if it’s raining.

We need to create an outdoor kitchen. With that extra space that I really should have planned for when we landscaped our yard we could have had a built in barbecue or even a stone stove. We could have even had cabinets to keep our various utensils and BBQ supplies in.

Perhaps I’ll redo our patio area one day. All I’d really have to do would be to move one raised garden bed back a few feet. Not as easy as it sounds but quite possible.

Do you have a landscaped yard? If you do, did you plan an outdoor kitchen into it?

Teak furniture for outdoors

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

Don’t you just love teak outdoor furniture? We have a beautiful reclaimed teak wood table that we use in our garden each summer.

Teak is so heavy! The table that we have is maybe 2.5 to 3 feet in length – the top is an irregular shape so it’s hard to give an exact measurement – and I’d say 2.5 feet in height but it must weigh well over 100 pounds.

I oil it with danish teak oil each year because it does get a weathered look by the end of summer. The oil restores the table top and makes the wood look like new. You know when wood is wet and you can see all the patterns in it? That’s what happens when I oil it. The fine colors of the wood grain.

I love that table! I might even look for another piece to complement the teak table we have.

The mailbox lid stays open

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

I need to get a new mailbox. I’ve been saying that for a while but I really need to get one. We’ve got one of those Mailboxes that are mounted on a wall and the lid will barely close now.

It just stays open when the mailman comes along to put mail in it. I have to push down hard on the lid to close it. It opens just fine but it wants to stay open all the time.

I’m going to go out shopping this weekend for some new clothes. I guess I’ll make a stop at a few other stores to look for a new mailbox too.

I really have to clean the basement

June 20, 2007 by Tricia

I really have to clean out my basement. Do you know what I just realized? I still have some of my old office furniture down stairs. Office furniture that I used when I had my business.

Sure it’s only my old desk and a few chairs, but I think it’s time to get rid of it.

I think I kept it either as furniture to use in the basement – in case we didn’t have much furniture for the basement or perhaps to use to set up a small office in the basement.

I don’t think that’s going to happen so it’s time for that stuff to go.

Anyone want a slightly used desk? It probably has gold dust all over it because I used it when I was a jeweller. LOL
