6 Tips for Effective Product Displays

December 11, 2012 by Trish

With so many options for purchasing items, having the appropriate product display that shows off your inventory is imperative. Knowing the right angles to capture your products for selling online and being able to communicate to potential customers with these displays is crucial to your sales. While many people think it’s an art to set up the perfect product display, it doesn’t have to be that difficult. Here are some tips for having an effective product display, online or in your store.

Highlight products to their appropriate target markets

When creating a product display, a great approach is to highlight product features with the highest appeal to your target markets. Drawing attention to a products’ features that make it better than others or emphasizing it’s competitive advantage will help keep people focused on the positives surrounding the products.

Position displays at eye level

Have you ever walked through a store and became sidetracked by a display? Chances are, that display was positioned at eye level, making it a focal point and attracting people to it. For displays that are higher than eye level, shoppers are more likely to walk past the display without even taking notice of it.

Change displays regularly

If you have a holiday display up in the middle of May, people are going to know something’s not right. Be sure to always change your displays regularly and only use holiday themes to enhance your displays appeal. Be creative with the way you change things up and make sure not to repeat the same types of ideas over and over again. Keep in mind that holiday-themed displays are a great way to refresh the visual appeal of products while at the same time encouraging a holiday spirit in customers.

Use the right lighting

Lighting can make all the difference, especially when it comes to product displays. By using effective lighting, you will be sure to enhance the attraction to and appeal of your product display. The trick is to position your lighting to focus the shoppers’ attention on the products as a whole as well as whatever the most appealing features of the product are. Just make sure you watch to make sure that the lights aren’t casting shadows on or near your display and that your lighting is balanced throughout your display.

Be artistic and creative

The artistic and creative aspect of product displays can be as simple or as complex and you’d like it to be. One tip you should be mindful of is to always use artistic principles when creating displays. Think of things such as balance, focal points, simplicity and color psychology as well as viewing patterns. It might even be worth while to hire a local student artist to help you in creating, arranging and lighting your display so that your material is showcased in the best way possible.

Sketch or draw your designs before attempting

Before doing anything, you should always draw out what you’d like to do. Sketching your designs prior to actually assembling the product displays allows for your to really look at what you’ve been envisioning and figure out the measurements and what’s necessary to create it.

Having the right display to highlight your products is extremely important for sales. Rather than blindly thinking of a display that you think might look nice, do the research before starting on your product display. By following the tips above, you can ensure that your product display will look great and be a success!

Top 5 Reasons why High Street Shopping Will Never Recover

November 29, 2012 by Trish

Death of the High Street?

If we are being honest, the death knell for high street shopping has been sounding for some time now. There are various reasons why this has become the case, and we listed the top five.

1. People Are Busier

Consumers want convenience more than ever before, and you simply do not get that on the high street. High street stores have always been based on the principle of creating a relaxed browsing environment to encourage customers to buy. Customers are more focused with regards purchases than ever before, so tend to buy online or simply look to get in and out of a shop as quickly as possible.

2. Rise of the Retail Park

Many businesses are turning their backs on the high street in favour of setting up shop in retail parks. Retail park units often offer better value for businesses in terms of rates against return, too. One reason that businesses favour retail parks is that they can market products and target customers and employees a lot easier. Retail parks are filled with “destination” stores where customers go with the purpose of buying. This means businesses can look at how successful they are on selling to the customers who come into stores, knowing that almost all of them are looking to buy, whereas on the high street you need to heavily factor in browsers.

3. Supermarkets

Even as recently as fifteen years ago, the supermarket was where you would go just to get your weekly food shopping. Now, you can decorate your home, book a holiday, and even buy a car in most modern supermarkets. With the rise of these one stop shops, why would anyone need to visit a high street?

4. E-Commerce

Even for the biggest technophobes, using the internet to shop can prove much more convenient than wandering around a store looking for a member of staff, who then points to where they think an item might be rather than you to it. Finding an item online is often no more than a search and a click, making for an easy and straightforward, stress free shopping experience.

5. People Know Points 1 – 4

As much as the Government and local authorities look to focus on high street regeneration, they are as aware of the other four points as anyone. Ultimately, there will come a time when they will realise it is no longer cost effective to continue putting money into high streets, especially as there is no real demand for them to be the central fulcrum of shopping habits that they once were.

Posterita offers a free and paid point-of-sale operational system for a number of companies in the different industry sectors from ecommerce, high street shops, and restaurants.

Setting up your Yard Sale

November 1, 2012 by Trish

Having a yard sale can be a challenging, yet incredibly rewarding experience. While it’s easy to cling to items of our past, getting rid of the clutter can give us a fresh start and a cleaner and more organized house. One of the most difficult parts of putting together a yard sale is deciding what stays and what goes. Some things may just need a replacement part, such as a Kitchenaid food processor, Maglite bulb, or wick for your Zippo lighter. Here are some great tips to get you started on your yard sale and help to make it a success.

Weeding out the things you don’t need

The best approach to finding your yard sale inventory is to go through everything and ask yourself a few questions. Have I used this item in the past few years? Will I use this item in the future? Yes, it might be your wedding china, but if you haven’t pulled it out since the wedding to use it at least once a year— is it worth keeping? Go through boxes, shelves, cabinets, attics and garages to find items that haven’t been utilized. A few items might be exceptions. Other than coveted items in need of a little repair, most items that aren’t used should be placed for sale. If you find yourself clinging, try taking a picture. Many find it easier to let go of something they have a tangible memory of.

Don’t price too high (you’ll end up giving it away for free anyway)

Once you’ve gathered items for the big event, it’s time to decide on pricing. There is a fine art to pricing for yard sales. Price too high and you’ll put off the customers. Refuse to negotiate and you’ll end up selling nothing. Once you’ve cleaned everything out, chances are you won’t want to put it back in your newly organized home. Remember that one dollar is more than none and all items that are unsold will end up being donated for free. Do a little research for the going rate of high ticket items on EBay or Craigslist and price accordingly. Also it’s helpful to go to a few yard sales to see what prices keep the consumers buying.

Marketing, dates, and Signage

Choosing a weekend that has the potential to be high traffic is a great way to go. If you know people will be out and about for an event, optimize your advertising to snag those who will be driving by. Use the internet to list your yard sale for free, luring buyers by listing your top items, and consider that you can never have enough signage throughout the neighborhood. Target busy streets and display signs that lead yard sale fans straight to you.

Once you’ve had your sale, you can relax in your newly cleaned home. Take some of the money and put it toward the items you’re keeping. Kitchenaid food processor replacement parts, cleaning supplies for your freshly cleaned bookshelves, and cookbooks to go on them are just a few ideas. Repair what you are keeping, and clean things out on a regular basis to keep from having to have another sale soon!

I love getting free samples in the mail

August 18, 2011 by Tricia

I absolutely love getting samples in the mail. The other day I got an email from P&G saying that they had a new batch of samples for their members so as quick as possible I went to their website and filled out my preferences. In a few weeks I’ll get a box full of goodies! Oh boy!

It seems that just about every week I get samples of something or another. Just the other day when I checked my mail I had a sample of an oro gold facial mask. I tried it out that evening and much to my delight it worked great.

Do you ever apply for samples online? If so, what type of products do you try to get samples of? As you can tell I like personal items such as cosmetics, skin care and sometimes food samples.

January sales driving me nuts

January 15, 2011 by Tricia

I keep getting emails and flyers from local companies about huge January sales. Usually I try to ignore these kinds of things, especially since we don’t have a lot of extra money to spend on things that we don’t really need, but as you probably know, the sales at this time of year are well, spectacular, so it’s hard to ignore some of the sales that I’m seeing!

I really want a flip camcorder so I keep drifting over to websites to check out prices on the one that I want … then for some reason I look at the video games like psp and xbox kinect. I don’t know why .. I mean, I already have a wii and I don’t use it as much as I should so why am I looking at other video games? LOL

Do sales attract you? By this I mean do they make you look even if you know you probably won’t buy anything?
