I think I’m afraid to cruise

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever gone on one of those caribbean cruises? I’ve always wanted to, but I’ve been hesitant.

Why?

Well the idea of being out on the water for that long bothers me for some reason. I can swim. I’m not afraid of water at all. In fact I often say that I was born in a canoe (not literally!). I’ve been a canoist all my life, but it’s mostly been on creeks, rivers and lakes. I’ve also white water canoed and rafted.

So yeah, I’m not afraid of water. I think I’m just afraid of open water. The ocean.

I know it’s irrational. Cruise ships travel at night and dock in different ports during the day letting passengers out to visit whatever island their docked in for the day. So it’s not like I’d be out in the middle of nowhere on the water for a week or two.

One day I will go on a Caribbean cruise. I did promise my sister when she was sick that I would, so I have to. I’m just nervous about it.

Anyone else feel that way about cruises?

The Traffic lull is over – I think

August 21, 2007 by Tricia

Well, looking at my site stats for yesterday it seems that most people are back from their holidays, back to work or back in school. Why do I think that? Well, my stats are up. All of my husband and I’s sites had a lot more visitors yesterday than we’ve had most days over the last couple of weeks.

It’s not like there was a huge drop in site visitors, but enough that I noticed. Fewer comments, and lower visitor numbers when I check my stats.

Have you noticed that your site or sites had a slight drop in traffic through maybe mid July until at least the end of last week?

I’ll be keeping an eye on my stats over the next week, but I think I’m correct. I know that a lot of schools opened up this week so the kids are back to school. Moms that stay at home might have a bit more time on their hands for visiting blogs, and with luck the advertisers will be back and creating more work for all of us too.

Expensive break down

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

My husband called his parents house earlier this evening to see if his brother ever got there. His brother had been driving from Chicago through the night Wednesday and into early Thursday morning.

He made it, but sometime during the day his car broke down! Actually I’m not sure if it happened just before he reached my husbands home town or if it happened long after he arrived. Either way his car broke down and it apparently cost about $900 to get fixed!

He’s going to need a cash advance! A big one!

What a drag eh? I mean he’s lucky it didn’t happen in the middle of nowhere while he was driving from Chicago, but still that’s an expense that I’m certain he wasn’t counting on. What a way to spoil a holiday.

I missed out on a trip to Florida in May

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

You know, I missed out on an Orlando vacation back at the end of May. The company was supposed to hold Postiecon at that time and I was going to go. I would have enjoyed a short trip to Florida at that time of year.

Now their event is going to be in November alongside Bloggersworld in Las Vegas. I’ve been invited to go as a panelist since I’m one of the top earners but I haven’t heard a thing as to whether they’ll be paying for my hotel or anything like that. You’d think that if someone wants you to speak at a large event that they might at least put you up in a hotel?

I guess I’ll have to write to them about it and find out what’s going on. As I mentioned in an earlier post I haven’t bought my tickets for my flight or reserved a hotel room yet and this is one of the main reasons why I haven’t. I suppose I could go ahead and make my reservations and if they were going to pay for anything they could reimburse me, but still … it’d be nice to know in advance.

Moms check out the special promo I just wrote about!

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

Hey if you’re a mom that needs a break take a look at the post that I just wrote on my gardening blog.

It’s for a special luxury weekend called Motherhood Redefined. If you use the special promo code that I listed in the post you can get 75% off the price of the whole event which includes accommodations in a four star resort, a chance to see celebrity speakers and special interactive workshops.

If I was a mom who needed to get away from it all I’d go!

As it is I don’t think I’ll be going on any kind of holiday in the near future, other than perhaps my possible trip to Las Vegas in November. I’m still up in the air on that one though as I need to find out hotel and flight prices etc.
