DLP TV headaches

April 1, 2008 by Tricia

I’ve been complaining about our DLP TV making a loud humming noise for a long while now. Well, we finally called the company that we bought the TV from and checked how much longer our warranty would last (April 2009) and booked a service call.

Luckily it’s all covered on our warranty.

We did all that last week and the service company showed up about an hour ago to have a look at our TV. As we expected it’s the color wheel that’s making that constant loud humming noise whenever the TV is turned on.

Unfortunately when the guy showed up he looked at his paperwork and said “Wait, this isn’t an RCA?”. Yeah, our original TWO lemon DLP TV’s were RCA’s. One didn’t turn on at all, and the second one only worked for 11 days before it stopped working. We ended up having the second TV repaired at the stores insistence (on warranty of course) and they actually had to replace half the working parts to make it work. When it was finally returned after about a month it only worked for a day or two.

That’s when we insisted on getting a new TV and that’s how we ended up with the Samsung that we currently have in our home.

Now Chris is on the phone with the store telling them that the paperwork the service company has is for the wrong TV. They spent half an hour looking for the paperwork showing that our TV was changed over to an different brand.

It’s such a hassle every time we have to deal with the store, Bad Boy, and the service company. The store didn’t keep our paperwork in order. In fact we ended up with a store credit for over $700 when we changed from our lemon RCA DLP’s over to the Samsung DLP. In 2006 we purchased a new DLP light and charged it to our credit. At that time new lights for DLP TV’s were almost $300. So do the math, our credit should be $400 and something bucks right? Well they’re telling us our store credit is $167???

Seriously. Whoever is in charge of transferring all their bills of sale and other account data to their computer system really messed things up. We go through a major hassle every time we have to call them.

We need to get a new washer and dryer because the ones that came with our house when we bought it are over 30 years old! Talk about energy suckers! I was counting on using our in store credit (which should be gaining interest over the years, don’t you think?) to pay for a good portion of the cost of the dryer or washer, but if they insist that our credit is only $167 bucks well that isn’t going to happen.

Ok enough of my rant.

I need some pampering

March 28, 2008 by Tricia

Do you know how long I slept today? I was zonked out until almost 9 pm! This flu sure has me wiped out! Chris is still feeling off too.

I have a feeling that we’ll just be staying home this weekend relaxing and recovering from this darn flu bug.

After this long winter and now this nasty flu I’m more certain than ever that we need a vacation. The closest to having a vacation we’ve come in the past year was our trip to Las Vegas in November, however that wasn’t that relaxing! I think it’s time to check out a Hilton Head rental or a spa resort. We need some pampering even if it’s only for a long weekend!

Do you and your spouse ever just take a weekend for yourselves?

Have you seen the bean?

This weeks theme is Metal

I’ve posted photos of Chicago’s famous Cloud Gate sculpture -aka The Bean – on a few of our blogs, but I don’t think I’ve posted this photo.

The bean is a huge spherical metallic sculpture in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Depending upon where you are standing when you gaze at the bean you can see different aspects of the surrounding city reflected in it’s almost spotless surface.

What you can see reflected in The Bean in this photo is what I think was a place called the Millennium Theater. It’s a huge outdoor theater or band shell and it’s got a gorgeous design.

I need another trip to Vegas

March 7, 2008 by Tricia

Lately I keep thinking about our trip to Las Vegas last November and how much I enjoyed the sites and sounds of Vegas. I’m starting to think about planning another trip. Soon.

Perhaps it’s all the bad weather we’ve had this winter and the snow that just keeps falling this week, but I really think I need a holiday. I think it’s time I took a look at some Las Vegas hotels and perhaps book a room for a weekend or even a week!

When I was in Vegas in the fall I wasn’t well at all. There’s no guarantee that I’ll be ok if I go again, but it would sure be nice to feel ok and have some fun there. I did have fun on my trip but it would have been a lot better if I’d been feeling great. My husband on the other hand had a great time! On our first night he had to have the security guards help him find our room! I’d stayed out with some friends in a restaurant for a while when he headed back to our room after having a little tooooo much to drink!

If I do go on a trip to Vegas in the near future I’ll certainly try to stay in a different hotel than we stayed in last November. I didn’t like that hotel at all. Anyone have any suggestions?

No flying vacations for a while I guess

December 10, 2007 by Tricia

I was just saying on my other blog that now that we have a puppy we probably won’t be flying anywhere for vacation for the next several months. Puppy needs to be house trained and grow out of her chewing and teething stage before we could even ask anyone to look after her while we are away.

So that means she’ll have to come with us on vacation if we even go on vacation. I guess we’ll be doing road trips and we’ll be trying to find pet friendly places to stay.

I’ve always wanted to go to Carolina. It’s a long drive, but not too bad. Perhaps a vacation on the Outer Banks might be nice. I’m sure that there must be some pet friendly cabins or motels there.

Do you know of any pet friendly vacation spots that aren’t too far from where I am here in Ontario?
