Puppies are so cute! But I bet some are born with poor sight. I mean, humans aren’t always born with perfect sight so why would we expect all puppies to be able to see well?

Certainly glasses on a puppy is a more practical solution than contact lenses? LOL

Facebook connections on and offline

October 5, 2007 by Tricia

My sister has discovered Facebook. I figured her daughter was on it, but I never really thought of my sister as the Facebook type.

Earlier this week we became “friends” on Facebook and nearly every day we’ve been sending messages back and forth. I think we’ve talked more online this week than we have on the phone or even in person in months!

Of course the way we discovered that we were both on Facebook started with a phone conversation. My sister had called to say hello and to ask me if I knew anything about the care of hedgehogs. She’d just bought her daughter a hedgehog and since I specialize in the care of exotic pets she thought I’d know something about them and their diet. Unfortunately that’s one of the few exotic animals that I don’t know much about. I was able to help her with the diet though.

The conversation moved on to a discussion about vacuum cleaners of all things. She really needs to get herself a new one. I know she bought a Shark about four or five years ago, but it doesn’t seem to work anymore. I suggested that she take a look a Miele vacuum as they seem to be a popular brand and I think they’re probably fairly reliable. It was sometime after that, that we got on to Facebook.

Oddly, later that evening we were talking with one of our old friends on the phone. Chris and I were busy filling out our Passport applications (we need them for our Las Vegas trip in November!) and our friend Todd asked why I haven’t added him as a friend on Facebook yet.

I’m used to having my online friends ask me to add them to my Facebook account, but not my offline friends or relatives! So it was really strange to have two people ask me on the same day. Well, three really because my niece also added me as a friend too.

A pile of fur

Wordless Wednesday

a Furball

What an adorable pile of fur!

I guess they didn’t want to pose that way for long as you can see someone holding the top two cats on the pile. Maybe the owner was just keeping the cats from tipping?

Our little hummingbird

August 24, 2007 by Tricia

As some of you know I have a very nice garden. I’ve been working on it for five years. Unfortunately I’d only seen a hummingbird once in my garden – about two years ago. Ever since then I put in more flowers that hummingbirds like and added another hummingbird feeder to the garden.

Well I finally had some success. Last Sunday I was in the kitchen with my husband when I turned towards the kitchen window and Oh Oh Oh there was a beautiful little hummingbird trying to figure out how to get a drink from the hummingbird feeder.

These aren’t the best photos since I took them so quickly through a not so clean kitchen window, but here they are:

Approaching the feeders drink station:

Ready to have a drink? Or maybe about to leave?

Hummingbird 25

Do you see hummingbirds in your yard? For all I know this one’s been visiting all summer and this is just the first time I’ve been lucky enough to see it.

I’m hoping to get a pet dog soon

July 15, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I have seriously started to think about getting a new pet. We both have allergies, although I think they’ve decreased over the years. Still, having said that we’ve begun to look into a few different dog breeds that we think might be suitable for our small home and our lifestyle.

One of the dogs that’s made the short list – excuse the pun – is the Boston Terrier. We have a house so I suppose we could get any type of dog, however it’s a small house with a small yard so I think a small to medium sized dog would suit us better.

So I’ve been spending time reading articles such as the Boston Terriers Dog Guide Article to get a better idea of the terrier temperament, personality, health issues and it’s over all needs.

They are actually companion dogs who thrive on attention. If you’ve also been thinking of getting a terrier don’t get one if you can’t spend a good amount of time with your new pet. I’m home all day so I’d be able to give a Boston Terrier all the attention it needs.

They are also supposed to be quite intelligent and playful. A good mix. I like playful dogs and one that’s said to be intelligent should be easy enough to train, unless of course it gets stubborn as these dogs sometimes can be on occasion.

These dogs have large bulging eyes which I believe is part of their attraction. Of course their large eyes are also the source of most of their health problems. Some of their eye problems can be prevented or minimized with care and attention, but others go with the territory. I would think that anyone who owns a terrier should be on the lookout for the first sign of eye trouble and get it treated if possible as soon as possible.

If we get a terrier or another type of dog it probably won’t happen until Mid-November onward. We have a lot going on here at home over the summer what with all the house guests we are expecting and then in early November I’ll be going out of town for a while. I think it’s best to get our new pet, if we get one, when the house will be settled and we don’t have holiday plans.

Do any my readers have experience with Boston Terriers? If you do have you seen any eye problems?
