Wordless Wednesday
Looks who’s coming out of the closet? Fancy smanshy penguins of all things!
These birds have style. Who would have known?

I’ve been a pet owner of one kind or another for half my life and you’d think I’d know by now how expensive pets are to keep, wouldn’t you? I guess I forgot!
Ever since we got our puppy in November I find myself shopping for things for her. Everything from interesting yet durable toys, to an indestructible bed, treats and so on. I bet our puppy has more toys to chose from than most dogs! She’s so spoiled!
I’ve slowed down on buying things for our puppy – after all she’s got most everything she needs now – however I don’t think my habit of buying her toys and other interesting items is going to totally go away so I might as well save some money by trying to find the best buy on whatever items I decide to get for her over at buy.com.
Yeah, I’ll still be spending probably too much money on our dog, but at least it won’t be quite as much as it would have been if I hadn’t shopped around for the best price.

Who couldn’t love this face?
Midnight is as excited about spring as I am. We got her at the end of November so she never really had much time to experience anything but snow.
Now she loves going outside and proves it by ringing the bell we placed on our front door all the time. She just wants out so that she can smell the grass, taste the garden beds, watch the birds, squirrels and pretty much anything that moves such as plastic bags blowing along the street.
I took this photo while we were sitting in the enclosed front porch. She was curious about the camera and I snapped a shot as she came up to me to take a look at the lense.
Isn’t she a cute puppy?
If you like funny puppy stories check out the post I just made on my main blog. Midnight got really excited about her food and showed us just how much she loved it!

As I was saying in my last post I’m really enjoying the fact that spring has truly arrived in Toronto. We’ve had some amazing weather here in Toronto this week. Yesterday it reached 19 Celsius (66.2 F), but it was kind of windy so it didn’t feel quite that warm.
Our puppy’s really been enjoying Spring as well. We got her at the end of November and she only had a very short period of time to enjoy the great outdoors before snow started to fall. She didn’t mind the snow at all, but the cool temperatures and poor walking conditions did lessen her time outdoors for most of her time with us so far.
Now that the weather is so nice though we’re taking her out all the time. We’ve been to a few of Toronto’s fantastic beach areas three times in the last week and a half, The brickworks, the local park and have been taking longer walks.
On the really nice days such as yesterday we’ve even been sitting outside on the front porch. She loves watching the cars, squirrels, birds, people and school kids going by. I’d say the kids are loving the nice weather too. I’d swear I heard a couple of them talking about soccer trophies yesterday which of course means they’re out playing a lot of sports now too.
Midnights only gone through a heavy shedding period with us twice. Shortly after she arrived and the month of March. I guess she’s still shedding but I think she’s on the tale end of it now. I took advantage of the nice weather today and brought her outside and groomed her as she watched everything that was going on in the neighborhood. We both got some fresh air and time to enjoy the lovely day and she has a few less hairs to lose in the house now too. Bonus.
Have you taken advantage of the great spring weather? What have you been doing?

Our puppy just finished going through a big shed. We’re talking handfuls of fur coming off her! Ughh … I spend a portion of each day sweeping or vacuuming just to get up all the hair!
Her shedding did give me an idea though! We have cats that like to pass through our garden. Heck, we’ve got a few raccoons that like to visit as well. So I decided to save the dog fur and try placing it in the garden in order to see if the dog smell scared the animals away.
Have you tried anything like this to keep pests from your yard?
I think it will work to some degree. At least it’s worth a try and it won’t hurt anything. Fur is organic right?
