Need a replacement spa cover for your hot tub?

August 20, 2007 by Tricia

My husband would love nothing more than if we got a hot tub. In the last few years a number of our friends and relatives have purchased hot tubs and he wants to join the crowd. I’m sure we’ll get one eventually.

For those of you who are already lucky enough to have a hot tub of your own – Do you have a high quality, durable Spa Cover or are you in need of a new cover?

The Cover Guy specializes in hot tub covers. There are three quality levels to choose from – Standard, Deluxe and Extreme. It appears that the main difference between the levels are the size and the taper which would allow debris, snow and ice to run off the cover.

I believe that most hot tubs come with a cover or that you have the option to purchase one when you buy your tub. Unfortunately the cover that you might select at the time of purchase might not hold up over time or might not be durable enough to withstand extreme weather conditions.

That’s where The Cover Guy comes in. Their replacement covers are designed specifically for harsh climates. They state that their covers perform better than any other covers available and that they also last longer.

Visit the site and have a look for yourself. As I said there are three levels to choose from.

The standard cover is four inches thick and tapered to two inches. It’s been designed for moderate climates. This cover has two lockable straps for security.

The deluxe cover is apparently the number one selling cover in North America. It’s four inches thick and tapers to 3 inches and it’s been designed for harsh winter climates. It’s said that this cover can also save you some money on your energy bill as it has a specially designed heat lock hinge seal.

The extreme hot tub cover is five inches thick and has a four inch taper. This spa cover has been created for the most extreme climates. If you live in an area that gets heavy snow this is the cover for you as it allows rain, ice and snow to run off easily.

All of the spa covers have an aluminum stiffer down the center to add strength to the cover.

I believe that the Standard, Deluxe and Extreme hot tub covers use high density foam. This foam can withstand heavy loads such as children crawling on the cover, and harsh snow falls. The foam is coated and wrapped in order to allow for minimal water absorption.

The site says that all of their spa covers can be upgraded to a four layer artic heat lock hinge seal. This will help provide energy savings. Since I live in a cold climate I’m certain I’d upgrade if we ever had a hot tub and decided to purchase a replacement cover.

Now what I really like about the Deluxe and Extreme models is that they include four lockable child safety straps. I think it’s really important to protect children around any water source so I’m happy to see this feature.

Another feature of this site that I really like is that for each of the models you can use their hot tub cover building software to create a cover that fits the size and shape of your hot tub. You’ll be able to choose from a selection of marine vinyl cover colors and the type of fold or fold placement.

There are a number of optional features that you might choose for your spa cover as well. You might be interested in a cover lifter, a deluxe spa vacuum, a solar cover, a spa cover cap or even a booster seat.

The Cover Guy pride themselves in their craftsmanship and use only the highest quality materials in the making of your custom spa cover. The prices are wholesale prices since you are dealing directly with the manufacture so you’ll be saving money on a high quality hot tub cover.

If you’re considering getting one of these quality spa covers keep in mind that you’ll also have a five year guarantee. You certainly can’t lose with a five year warranty, particularly if you live in a harsh climate.

The Cover Guy has two locations in Canada and ships to both the USA and Canada.

Balloon Flower - White

I love balloon flowers. I had to stop for a moment to think just how many balloon flower plants I have growing in my front and back gardens and I believe that there are seven plants. Only two of them are white balloon flowers.

I think they are a cheerful little flower. They really do look like a balloon when they develop, and they when they finally open they are bright and cheery.

Have you tried growing balloon flowers?

These are two buildings in downtown Toronto near city hall. I took this photo about a month ago when I was at an outdoor art exhibition.

I like how this photo is a contrast of old and new and how the buildings stand out against that brilliant blue sky behind them. You can even see the clouds reflected in the glass panes of the building on the left if you look closely.

The only talent show I like

August 17, 2007 by Tricia

Did you watch America’s Got Talent? If you did don’t tell me who won because I recorded the shows on my PRV and haven’t watched the most recent episode yet.

It’s funny that I like this show. I really hate shows like American Idol and Canadian Idol (yes I get two doses of the idol shows!), Dancing with Stars and so on. Hate them with a passion, but for some reason I like America’s Got Talent.

I guess it’s because the show has so much variety. There’s magic acts, ventriloquism, acrobatics or physical acts, singers and musicians – plus many of them are funny. Humor always gets bonus points with me.

There’s a singer/ guitar player that I’ve been hoping will win. His name is Cass Haily. When he performs he reminds me of Chris when he plays. My husband is a musician and his vocal range is similar to Cass’ and he enjoys playing as much as it appears that Cass does. I hope he wins or that he’s already won.

Don’t tell me if you know!

It’s funny how people change

August 17, 2007 by Tricia

This past weekend we had not only Chris’ brother and his kids from Chicago visiting, but Chris’ younger sister and her husband also came to visit and stayed over.

I find Chris’ sister and her husband a little funny these days. You see, back when Chris first moved to Toronto his brother in law (before he married Chris’ sister of course) was his college roommate. In fact, that’s how they first met and became close friends.

Chris’ sister used to come to Toronto regularly to have fun in the big city and we’d all get together and have a good time. Eventually Chris moved in with me and his sister got together with his roommate. Chris and I and his brother in law were all in the jewelry trade together, so even once we paired off into couples we still got together quite a bit since the jewelry industry is a close knit trade that’s very family like.

Now, Chris’ sister and her husband live in a small town southern Ontario. They’ve lived out that way for years. I think they’ve lived in a small town for too long though because they are now afraid of Toronto.

Chris sister told me no less than five times how many missing women there currently were in Toronto. She was wrong too, some of her tally were missing from other areas of the province. They were afraid of the crowds at the Taste of the Danforth, afraid of different cultures – we have a large Muslim population in our area, and just plain small minded.

I have no idea what happened to this pair to make them so afraid. They were true big city lovers no more than a decade ago. What changed in their lives to make them so closed off?

We all still have a good time when we get together, but my how they’ve changed!
