Such a mild winter

January 31, 2012 by Tricia

We’re having such a strange winter here in Toronto. It’s been so mild. Well for the most part. We did get some snow this week, but it’s already melted and it’s even raining outside now. Yes … strange weather.

I was just thinking … if this weather keeps up and it stays mild and spring like that I’d like to do some outdoor activities … things that I would normally do in the spring or summer – like horseback riding or something. Of course I’d have to go looking for equestrian apparel if I were to do that, but it would be fun to go horse back riding in this weather. Maybe on the beach?

Actually speaking of the beach … perhaps this weekend I’ll take my dog to the beach. Oh not to let her in the water. I know the water will be far to cold – and I know she’ll still want to try to go in, she is after all a Labrador Retriever and she loves the water, but she’ll love just running along the beach on the sand. I’ve always loved going to the beach in the winter time. It’s different, but it’s nice.

Is it mild in your area too this winter? Are you doing things that you normally don’t do in the winter time?

Time to visit a flea market?

January 24, 2012 by Tricia

I want to do something different this weekend. I’ve been so bored lately!

One thing I was thinking about was that I haven’t been to a flea market in ages. Now, I don’t think that I’ve ever really been to one in the winter time, but I know that there are some indoor ones in this area that I could check out.

I love looking at antique furniture like a roll top desk or a beautiful chair, or delicate china or what I consider odd or outdated kitchen tools and appliances.

I’ve been known to buy beat up pieces of furniture only to refinish them and turn them into beautiful looking pieces. Perhaps if I were to go to a flea market this weekend I could find a “project” to keep me busy for a while.

Do you like going to flea markets and or buying old furniture to refinish it?

Need to get away for a while

December 29, 2011 by Tricia

I would love nothing more than to get away for a while. I’ve been under quite a bit of stress in the last few months and I think I need to just take a few weeks to myself if I can.

Lucky for me I’ve had a few invites from people for places to stay for a while if I want to get away. Two of my brothers have offered their homes up to me and a friend in Florida just offered to let me stay with her for a while too.

I have to say the Florida getaway sounds like it would be the most fun. Especially since my friend and I talked about looking into staying at one of the Disney World hotels for a few days as well during my visit. Of course that getaway would be the most expensive for me and the situation I’m in doesn’t leave me with much money it seems – so staying with one of my brothers if I need to get away is probably what I’ll end up doing.

My Christmas Dog

December 20, 2011 by Tricia

I don’t usually dress up my dog – not on holidays or at any time of year, but for some reason I saw those cute red antlers in a pet store and I decided that I wanted my Lab to have them.

So how do you like my Christmas dog?

She actually seemed to like wearing the antlers – well as long as they were behind her ears. She even picked them up and carried them around which really surprised me. I haven’t taken her out wearing them – I really only bought the antlers to take pictures of her wearing them, but maybe we’ll do a walk around the neighborhood on Christmas eve or Christmas day with the antlers on.

I love how my neighborhood changes from season to season

December 20, 2011 by Tricia

I’ve been taking a close look at several of the houses in my neighborhood when I take my dog out for a walk each day. It’s interesting to see the changes the houses go through each season. Many houses are decorated for the houses right now and the neighborhood is quite pretty at night.

One thing that I’ve noticed that several houses who have done some landscaping have done is to get a really nice address plaque. Some of my neighbors have built their address plaques into their stone edging surrounding their property. I’m sure I’m describing it properly but lets say the stone surrounds the property like a short fence and the number plaque is embedded in the stone. It’s very nice when it’s done well. I like the look of some of the address plaques so much that I went looking for some and I found a address plaques from addressplaques.net that I really like, I just have to decide if I want to buy it for our house now and where I might put it.

Do you have a nice address plaque on your house or just plain numbers? Oh and do you change the look of the outside of your home depending on the seasons? By this I mean do you decorate for the holidays or plant flowers outdoors in the spring and summer?
