Hoping my azaleas do well this year

Azalea buds

Just four more days and Spring will be here! I think I’ve pretty much said that in all three of my GTS posts today. Can you tell I’m excited?

I’ll have to wait until sometime in May before my two small Northern Lights Azalea shrubs begin to bloom, but that too is well worth the wait. I only wish that they weren’t so stingy with their flowers.

Perhaps this year, thanks to an abundance of snow cover to protect the plants and hopefully give them a good dose of moisture when it begins to melt, my azalea’s will do better than ever. I sure hope so!

Do you grow Azaleas?

Remember it’s Easter this weekend. If you don’t grow your own flowers, why not buy someone for someone special?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information. GTS participants remember to check in at As the Garden Grows each week so that we’ll know you made a new post!

Easter hunt for dogs

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

I think I’ve invented what could be an Easter Hunt for dogs instead of young kids.

Every once in a while when my puppy seems to be acting hungry or deserves a treat I’ll get a very small handful of dry dog food. I throw a couple on the ground ahead of me and whiles she’s occupied I’ll drop one or two somewhere else. Throwing one on a couch or chair, at the base of the stairs and so on.

She loves it. It becomes a food hunt for her and it keeps her busy for 10 to 15 minutes at a time because even once she’s retrieved all the hidden treats she’ll keep checking around to make sure she didn’t miss any. I guess that’s probably because the smell of the food is still hanging around.

Do you do fun things with your dog or other pets to make it think and have some fun?

Dolphin rescues whales

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

After rescue workers failed to rescue two stranded pygmy sperm whales that were stranded near a New Zealand beach a bottle nosed dolphin came to their rescue.

Have a look at this news video which tells the tale of the dolphin rescuing the whales. This might be the first time dolphins have been recorded rescuing a whale. Obviously it’s probably not the first time it’s happened, just one of the first time we’ve known about it.

Amazing!

Flag and flowers

Clematis

These lovely clematis grow at the front of my house, on the left hand corner if you’re facing the house, and the flowers wrap around the side of the house.

I didn’t realize when I took this photo that our Canadian flag would show up in the photo, nor would I ever have thought that it would make such a lovely background. I was quite pleased when I spied the flag in the photo.

Have you ever been concentrating on taking a photo of someone or something and then discovered that was was in the background was almost as interesting as the intended subject? I love it when that happens.

Cutest ankle biter ever

Now isn’t that the cutest little ankle bitter that you’ve ever seen?

Can you imagine working with bears and bear cubs? I’d love to be able to work with young wild animals. I’m not sure how I’d feel about it once they grew up and became more dangerous though!
