I’m a Wii Fit newbie

January 21, 2009 by Tricia

I don’t know if you read my other blog, Tricia’s Musings, but last week I finally made my very first purchase at eBay. I’ll bet that most of you reading this have purchased things on eBay before, but I never had … maybe because I live in Canada and every time I found something I liked the cost of shipping and possible duty taxes dissuaded me from making a bid.

I’d been wanting to get a Wii Fit for some time, but as you probably know most of the stores are sold out so I decided to check out eBay last Monday and I found a Wii Fit for sale in New Brunswick (an Eastern Province). The price was only a little higher than what I’d pay in a retail store so I took a chance, made a bid and with only a few minutes left in the auction I sat back to wait and see if someone else would bid or if I’d win. Guess what? I won!

Unfortunately since I’m a complete newbie to the whole Wii phenomena I didn’t realize that I needed the console in order to use Wii Fit. Duh! Well what do you expect when you’ve only ever seen displays in stores but haven’t even seen the boxes since they’re all sold out? LOL

Had I known I would have bought a combo pack, but as it was I discovered within an hour of my Wii Fit auction win that I needed the console so off I went back to eBay to look for a Wii console. I found one at a semi decent price that included an extra remote, extra nunchuck and the Wii Play game.

The Wii fit that I’d bought arrived last Friday but I had to wait until Monday afternoon before the Wii console arrived! (it was coming from Calgary) So I’ve only been playing with my new Wii and Wii Fit for two days now. So far so good, but I really have to work on my balance! I’ve been really sick for three years and I was just diagnosed with extremely low Vitamin D levels so that has caused my muscles to be extremely weak (the vit d deficiency I mean).

The Wii Fit will hopefully help me get my muscles back in shape, but I probably won’t be truly fit until my vitamin D levels get back up into the normal range (could take a year!).

I’d like to get another sensor so that I can use the Wii on the TV we have upstairs. We’ve been thinking of getting an LCD mount so that we can attach that TV to the wall. Once we do that we’ll have more room in the bedroom and that would make a good area to exercise or play games too.

Do you have a Wii? or a Wii Fit? How do you like it? I’ve only tried bowling, tennis and boxing in Wii Sports so far and of the 9 games on Wii Play I only like the Billiards. I’d eventually like to get some other games.

I’ve been looking at Wii Winter Sports and Wii Ski – does anyone have those? Are they worth getting?

What other “active” games do you like?

I’d love to hear your suggestions and of your experiences with Wii.

Put that cat on a diet!

January 21, 2009 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

This cat is bigger than the baby it’s lying beside!

 cat and baby on backs

It always amazes me when I see a big fat cat like this! I guess it’s owners have been pampering it and giving it too many meals or snacks. Personally I think it probably needs to be put on Leptovox or a weight loss pill equivalent for cats! LOL

I sure hope that baby’s parents don’t over feed him or her like they did their cat!

Clematis bloom covered in water droplets

Last week I posted a photo of my huge Clematis Jackmanii on my gardening blog.

Each year it grows up from the ground and it’s vines spread out along the fence (with my help) for up to 8 to 10 feet in each direction! In the photo I post the vine was entwined around an old wooden birdhouse. Beautiful.

Here’s a close up of one of the Clematis flowers just after it rained. I love the water droplet at the end of the bottom petal.

Isn’t that lovely?

Some color on a winter day

I think I’ve got an “I hate snow” theme going on my blogs today. Yep, I’ve decided that I’ve had enough of the cold fluffy white stuff and I need some color in my life.

What better than a bright pink Cosmo flower then?

cosmo

Aw … that’s better. Aren’t Cosmo’s pretty?

I grow this flower in my backyard garden and in the front boulevard during the summer. Everyone seems to love them.

Do you grow Cosmos? Oh and are you getting tired of all the snow lately too?

BTW if you want to see some bright summer color take a look at this cheery daylily!

Ornamental pepper isn’t happy indoors

My ornamental peppers aren’t looking too good these days. I seem to go through this every year.

I keep my ornamental peppers outside in the summer and when it begins to get cool outdoors (October or so) I bring the Ornamental peppers indoors along with several tropical plants and vines to spend winter indoors.

I think my ornamental pepper is still alive, but barely. They should look like this:

I took that photo two years ago during the summer when I had the plant outside.

Oh well … if the pepper dies I can always plant some of the seeds from the dried peppers that I save. I’ve done that before and it always works to create a new plant. Cheating, I know!

Do you grow Ornamental peppers? If they are indoors how do you keep them alive during the winter? I think our problem is that our house faces north and I have so many plants to put in the south facing windows that the pepper might still not get enough light.
