Idiot neighbors finally quieted down

June 11, 2007 by Tricia

My neighbors finally quieted down on Saturday night. I still didn’t end up getting much sleep though. I was so mad that they had destroyed my evening! I swear they were so loud with their awful Karaoke music that it almost seemed like they were inside my house.

The next time we buy a house it will not be a semi-detached. There’s nothing much wrong with semi-detached homes, but if you have noisy neighbors you can often hear them through the walls. Now I live in an old well built house … I really shouldn’t be able to hear my neighbors through a couple of feet of brick and plaster should I? I do though so that means they are extremely loud!

I guess we’re going to have to have a talk with them this week. They already know that we can hear their music and singing. We’ve even brought them inside our house when they had their music up loud and they agreed that it was outrageously loud.

So I have to think that they don’t care how noisy they are since they know how loud they are – they’ve heard themselves!

The Police are touring again!

June 9, 2007 by Tricia

I love the Police! No no, not the police that I’ll be calling if my karaoke neighbors don’t quite down momentarily. No, I mean the band – The Police!

Not only did they get back together for a 30th anniversary tour that has just started and runs until November 11th, they’ve also put out a 2-disc police cd of their greatest hits!

I’m loving it!

I’ve seen the police in concert twice before. Both times in Toronto. One time I saw them in a small venue – yeah really. That’s the best! The last time I saw them was in a large venue. Both concerts were amazing. I went with Chris and some friends both times and it was a blast. We never had front row seats or anything but we were able to get close enough.

If you get a chance to see them live, and this might be your one and only chance – Do It! You will not regret it. My memories of both concerts are so vivid. Chris is a musician and I’ve come to understand and feel the music almost as much as he does. All I can say about the concerts were that, for me, they were mesmerizing.

I haven’t purchased the police cd yet, but I plan to sometime over the next week or so. There’s 30 hit songs on the discs- 15 on each CD with songs such as Can’t Stand Losing You, Next To You, Roxanne, Message In A Bottle, Every Breath You Take, Don’t Stand So Close To Me, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic and I think my personal favorite De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da.

I’m almost as excited about buying the CD as I am about the chance to see another concert. My only problem with attending their concert is that it will be here in Toronto on November 8th and uh … I’m supposed to be attending a Blogging convention in Las Vegas at that time. Hmmm what to do, what to do …

Planning a big family get together

June 8, 2007 by Tricia

I got together last night with two of my brothers and my sister for dinner. One of my brothers was visiting the city on business.

While we had a nice meal in a fantastic restaurant we talked out the big family get together that we’re planning for the end of August / beginning of September.

We’re going to have a big family barbecue one day so I’ve got to get folding tables and chairs for the party. Yep, that’s one of my assignments.

The other is to plan another activity that we can all do. Since Toronto is on a lake I was thinking that perhaps we might go on one of the boat cruises on Lake Ontario … They have dinner cruises so we could spend a nice evening on a boat and have a great meal too. I think I’ll be making some calls later today to see how much that would cost. There’s going to be about 30 of us!

Maybe they’ll give us a group discount?

Doesn’t it look like this cat is just hoping that the fish will swim into it’s mouth? I’m afraid it’s going to be a very long wait kitty!

Still trying to figure out our basement reno

May 28, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever redecorated your home? If you have you’ll know that it’s both a joy and a pain in the butt to pick out new home furniture. I’ve been spending what little free time I have looking at furniture related websites, or pouring through catalog’s trying to find the perfect furniture for our basement when we finish our remodeling job.

We have a couch in the basement now that I’d like to keep. It’s a sectional with two captains chair that have nice leg rest, and the longer part of the couch pulls out into a double bed. The double bed is of course the real reason why I’d like to keep the couch.

We do have two spare bedrooms upstairs, but we are hoping to have a child. So, if that works out, at most we’ll have one spare bedroom. It’s always nice to have extra space for people to sleep if they come to visit and we do tend to have a lot of visitors.

So I’m trying to plan our basement reno so that the main part of the basement will be like a den, but because of the pullout couch it could double as a temporary bedroom. When we had boarders I had been thinking about renovating the basement and sectioning off one small part of our tiny basement to use as a bedroom but I think I’ll keep the space as open as possible.

My other idea is to perhaps get a Murphy bed. Murphy beds are ones that fold up into the wall and can look like a nice storage cabinet when not in use. I think I’d have to get a sideways model though if we went that route because our basement ceiling is very low and I don’t think a standing regular murphy bed would work down there at all.

See … planning on refurnishing a room can be interesting … but when you have lots of different ideas about how a room could be used it can take up a lot of your time!
