Pretty Clematis Seed Heads

Some of my Clematis vines are putting out their last few blooms of the season, while others have started to develop beautiful seed heads on the remnants of old flowers. I think I almost like the seed heads as much as I do the flowers!

Clematis seed head

I can’t remember the name of this clematis at the moment, but most of my clematis vines develop seed heads that look like this one.

The most unusual clematis seed head comes from my hybrid Seiboldiana. It’s large bluish purple flowers turn into seed heads that look like balls of twine!

I just love plants that are beautiful to look at throughout all of their stages of life and growth. Don’t you?

Do you grow delphiniums?

I grow a variety of delphiniums in my backyard garden and just recently in my planted front boulevard. The one that I’ve posted below tends to spread … a lot!

Purple Delphinium

It’s very prolific .. almost weed like. Yet it’s a very pretty plant when in bloom. Unfortunately I have to pull out tons of it each spring otherwise my garden would be just this delphinium!

Do you grow any delphiniums?

Roses and Rosehips

Several of my roses are either blooming again or are starting to bud in preparation for perhaps the last blooms of the season.

Many of my roses never seems to get the message that the weather is cooling and winter is coming so they continue to bloom right into November until the first snow falls.

There are some that bloom around this time of year and then set rosehips. I love the look of Rosehips. They remind me of small crabapples. I’ll have to take some photos of them when they start to form on my roses this year.

Roses like The Fairy fall into the bloom until covered in snow category!

Perhaps this year when it does start to cool down and we start to get frost or perhaps a short lived snow fall I’ll try to remember to bring my camera out and take photos of the frost or snow covered frozen roses. They are quite pretty when they are either covered in frost or dusted with snow.

I know I shouldn’t be talking about winter yet. There’s still time before it arrives. I guess it’s just because it’s been cooling down so much earlier this year that thoughts of winter are upon me. Maybe it’s the huge rainstorm we’re expecting today too … remnants of hurricane Ike … Yikes! Parts of this city are going to get flooded! Hopefully not this area though.

Delightful roses

I love gardening and I love growing roses.

Each morning when I awake I wander to a window that overlooks my garden and I spend a moment savoring the view. Each day a new flower is blooming or somethings has grown or changed in my garden. It’s always a wonder to view.

One rose that I enjoy seeing in bloom is my Double Delight Hybrid Tea. Isn’t it just gorgeous?

I love how it’s petals contain shades of white to pink to deep rose. Oh and the scent of this rose – it’s lovely. Not too strong, just a pleasant rose smell.

Another rose that I enjoy is Souvenir de la mal Mason. It’s an antique rose and it has lovely small blooms, well small compared to the size of a hybrid teas blooms!

I can never seem to take a picture of this rose that does it justice though. It really is quite beautiful.

What’s your favorite rose or flower?

Beautiful Chicago Peace rose

Last year my Love and Peace Hybrid Tea rose died and I replaced it with one of it’s relatives – Chicago Peace. I think Chicago Peace put out a few blooms last year and it’s been fairly sporadic this year, but when it does flower they are simply gorgeous:

I still think I liked the Love and Peace better as the flowers were so darn colorful, but Chicago Peace is growing on me with her large pink blooms.

Do you grow any Hybrid Tea roses? Maybe some of the Peace roses?
