Pecher Peony bloom

This is a beautiful peony that I grow in my backyard garden. I took this photo a few years ago and I believe the bloom was just about to fade. It was still lovely of course.

This peony has a mild scent. I don’t cut flowers to bring indoors often, but I do sometimes gather a bouquet of peonies and other flowers in bloom in the spring or early summer. The scent is lovely indoors too.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Cat Tails by the Lake

I’ve always been fascinated by Cat Tails or as some people call them, Bull Rushes. I remember even as a child I couldn’t wait until the cat tails had matured as they’d burst open to spread their fluffy feathery seeds.

Just like a dandelion, blowing on an over mature cat tail produces the same results … a sea of seeds blowing through the air.

I took this photo a few years ago when my husband and I were traveling from Toronto to Ottawa Ontario. The long cat tails were by a lake … Sharbot Lake I believe. So pretty.

A Scent Sational Rose

December 6, 2007 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Rose ScentSation

Yes I know this post is late, but better late than never right?

This is a hybrid tea rose called Scentsation. One day during the summer I went outside with my camera while it was raining lightly and I managed to capture a number of plants and flowers covered in rain drops.

I think rain drops on flowers are absolutely beautiful, don’t you?

A hardy rose

I grow a very hardy rose, Theresa Bugnet, in a large planter at the front of my house just to one side of my porch. The rose is so hardy that, unlike many other roses, it’s able to survive our winters in a planter.

This rose produces beautiful blooms with a heavenly scent several times each season and since it’s of the rugosa family it doesn’t have many pests and it’s affected by powdery mildew very often either. In fact this rose hates pesticides and chemicals so along with it’s built in resistance to disease this makes it very easy to care for in the garden.

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle

This weeks theme is RED

Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle bloom

Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle is supposed to be red, as the name implies, but in this photo the flowers seem to be pinkish don’t they?

Other times, when viewed in the garden, the flowers seems to have more orange in them and at other times they seem red. I guess this is one of those plants who’s flowers can change color slightly with the seasons or due to temperatures.

The Dropmore Scarlet Honeysuckle is a vine and it’s one of the hardiest vines you can purchase. However, having said that, mine didn’t do so well in the garden this year. I don’t know if it’s because we didn’t water as much this past year as we normally do or if something else was wrong.

I didn’t prune it in the spring. Perhaps it needs a pruning each year. I’ll have to look that up and see if I can make this plant do well next year.
