Lavender Dreams

This is a cute little rose that I grow in my front yard garden bed. It’s called Lavender dreams.

It would be nice if it has a scent, but as far as I can detect the flowers don’t smell. Luckily when it blooms there’s tons of tiny flowers in large clusters so that helps make up for the lack of scent.

If you’re looking for a low maintenance low growing rose for your garden I’d recommend Lavender Dreams. I’ve never given it much care at all and it doesn’t seem to get powdery mildew or any other types of problems that plaque many of the commonly popular roses.

Theresa Bugnet rose branches covered in snow

We don’t have any snow right now, but two weeks ago after a big snow storm I went outside with my camera and took some photos of my snow and ice covered plants.

This is a photo of my rose, Therese Bugnet. It’s branches are red in the winter and as you can see it’s lovely branches were covered with a delicate layer of crystallized snow. It looked so much prettier in person than it does in this photo.

Actually it was quite beautiful outside after the snow. All of the trees were covered in snow and as it melted icicles formed.

A perennial geranium

This is a delicate Johnson’s Blue Geranium. The flowers are very small at only about an inch in diameter and it’s petals are iridescent.

This perennial geranium blooms two or three times each year.

I took this photo at the beginning of October when the plant was near the end of it’s last flowering of the year.

It’s a very nice companion plant. I grow it beside heurchera, astilbe and some roses.

Chicago Peace Hybrid Tea Rose

As I was saying in my GTS post on Tricia’s Musings, I had to replace a few roses after last years very mild winter. This rose, Chicago Peace is now where my beautiful Love and Peace hybrid tea rose had been for several years.

Chicago peace isn’t as loud a rose as Love and Peace but it has multiple colors within it’s petals just like Love and Peace, only instead of being shades of yellow, orange and pink, Chicago Peace only seems to have reds, pinks, corals and whites within it.

It’s a beautiful rose with a very light airy scent. It should do well in my Toronto Garden … particularly if our winters have some snow cover that doesn’t melt away too quickly. So far this year there’s nice snow cover on the ground so I’m hoping my garden will be quite healthy come Spring.

Jacques Cartier explorer rose is a delight!

This lovely quartered rose is Jacques Cartier. It’s a Canadian Explorer rose and it’s very hardy. Perfect for the Northern garden.

Not only can it withstand a harsh Canadian winter, but it smells lovely. It has the look of the an antique rose and the scent to go along with the look. It’s absolutely lovely.

Mine grows about 10 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide depending upon how much I prune it in the spring and later in the season. It’s kind of a floppy rose, but if staked it can look quite beautiful in the garden.

Like most roses it has thorns and Jacques Cartier’s are quite prickly! When I prune this rose during the summer I always end up missing some skin from my arms, hands and sometimes even my legs!
