Vintage Guitars and the Toronto Jazz Festival

June 25, 2010 by Tricia

I think tomorrow will be a busy day for my husband and I.

He found out that there’s a vintage guitar festival being held here in Toronto so he wants to go to that. It’s at the Scarborough Community Center on Kingston Road if you happen to live in the Toronto area and you’d like to attend.

I’m not sure what we’re doing in the afternoon. Probably shopping since my husband has to go out of town on Sunday since his dad is having surgery on Monday. I know that I need to get out and look for a nice birthday gift for my husband since his birthday is next weekend. However it’s hard to look for the best buy and something that would be perfect for him with him along on the shopping trip … so that might have to wait.

I do know that in the late afternoon or early evening we’re going to head out to the Toronto Jazz Festival. There’s going to be a lot of very talented musicians and singers in town over the next week and I know that my husband and I will have a blast attending some of the events. Naturally we’ll be attending the free or mostly free events.

I guess my weekend plans are mostly music related. What are your plans for this weekend?

Wiped out after cleaning the whole house!

June 18, 2010 by Tricia

Boy am I tired. I’ve been cleaning for the last few hours.

Last weekend we bought one of those Swiffer sweeper vacs. I got it because sweeping the floor really gets my back aching. I don’t know why … maybe the angle I bend forward when I’m sweeping. So anyway- I figured that the sweeper vac would make cleaning up a little bit easier and faster and that maybe my back wouldn’t take such a beating.

Unfortunately our floors were pretty bad. I hadn’t swept for a while and we have a Labrador Retriever who sheds a lot. There was lots of hair balls and I thought that I’d probably be cleaning out the sweeper vacs filter repeatedly if I tried it for the first time with so much dog hair on the floor. So I swept the whole house first. Yes, our whole house is hard wood floors.

Once the sweeping was done I tried the sweeper vac for the first time. It worked great. I’ve heard that they run out of charge fairly fast (20 minutes or so) so I made sure to turn it off every time I had to move furniture out of the way so as to not overuse the charge. Even though I’d swept prior to using the sweeper vac it still picked up a lot of hair.

Oh yeah I also dusted before I started sweeping and vacuuming too.

Once I was done using the sweeper vac I got out the free wet pad that we’d received with our Swiffer sweeper. I started using it in the kitchen and found that it dried out by the time I reached the beginning of our dining room (just outside the kitchen). The wet mop did a good job, but I wanted it to do at least the main floor. They’re kind of expensive if you have to use two or three to do your whole house. So I got a bright idea. I took the dirty wet pad off the Swiffer and rinsed it off and then proceeded to do my living room and dining room, rinsing it as needed until I’d finished the job.

Once that was done I windexed our glass coffee table and a few other things in the living room and I was pretty much done … done as in wiped out.

I figure that if I use the sweeper vac every two days or so I shouldn’t have to pull out my broom again. I hope it worked out that way anyway.

All in all I’m happy with the way my new cleaning toys worked. I just have to find a way to extend the use of the wet pads – maybe a shammie or reusable micro-fibre cloth instead?

Now i’m just going to relax and watch a movie with my husband. Oh and look for some good acne treatments for a friend of mine who’s suddenly having trouble with her skin – but that’s another story.

Have you used the Swiffer Sweeper Vac? What did you think? Did it do a good job for you? Does it lose it’s charge too fast? I know it sure takes a long time to charge in the first place (18 hours!).

Looking forward to the Beach Rib Fest

June 17, 2010 by Tricia

It looks like the summer event season has started here in in Toronto.

Last weekend we took our dog down to Woofstock – the largest festival for dogs in North America. We had a lot of fun – but of course our dog, Midnight, had a ball. We went on Saturday and walked around looking at all the booths and meeting other dogs and dog owners for several hours. Midnight was wiped by the time we got home and she slept a good part of Sunday as well. Nothing like a tired Lab every once in a while. Maybe we’ll take her to Winter Woofstock in November.

This weekend we have the Beach Rib Fest to attend. It starts tomorrow afternoon and runs through until Sunday 8 pm.

I love ribs. Mmmmmm. There are going to be several award winning rib vendors, a beer tent and live bands. It should be fun.

We went last year on the last day and they didn’t have any more ribs left. Sigh … so we tried pulled pork. I don’t think that I’ve ever had it before and I didn’t like it all that much … so this year we’d better get some ribs.

If it’s anything like the other ribfests that we went to last year the ribs will be tasty but kind of expensive. I’ve heard the best way to sample ribs at a ribfest is to only buy a half rack from a vendor and maybe get another half rack at another vendor. If my husband does the same thing at different rib vendors we can end up trying out four different rib places. Oh and have very full tummies. Hmm … maybe I’d better dust off my fitness equipment and do a round on the elliptical after coming home from the ribfest. LOL

Last weekend we drove buy one of the Luminato events, but didn’t attend. Perhaps we’ll go to Luminato this weekend as well. We can catch a performance or see some musicians.

I wonder what’s happening in Toronto next weekend … I’d better look it up. Going to local free or cheap events is a great way to have some summer fun.

We finally have new neighbors

June 5, 2010 by Tricia

Well it looks like we finally have peranent new neighbors. Good bye to renters next door – hello new home owners!

The new people arrived at the house next door earlier today to start cleaning up and I suppose to prepare for their move.

I only met the man as the wife was out when we went over to say hello and give them some desserts from a local bakery as a welcome. He seemed nice and my husband had met his wife earlier in the day and said she was nice too … so, so far so good! Fingers crossed anyway!

The man was dressed in a head to toe white suit when I met him … one of those suits you can buy at Home Depot or a similar store for painting or to protect your clothes when you’re doing big jobs. He looked hot and sweaty. Maybe they could market those work suits as a new kind of fat burner because I’m sure that’s what it does!

We didn’t get around to asking the new neighbors when they might be moving in, but we got the feeling it will be soon. That’s good – I hate having an empty house next to us.

Looking for Guest bloggers

June 3, 2010 by Tricia

I don’t know why exactly but lately I’m having a lot of trouble keeping all my blogs up to date. Actually the amount of blogs I have is the problem. There’s just too many and not enough time in the day.

Coming up with new posts for 15+ blogs on a regular basis is a full time job. Hmmm I wonder if there’s some kind of project management software for multiple blog owners? LOL Yah, probably not.

S now I’m thinking about opening up my blogs to guest bloggers. People who can write about gardening, home appliances, home decor, home life, health etc. Topics that would fit well with this blog and a few of my other blogs.

Guest bloggers can add a short byline to the beginning or end of their post with a link to their main site and up to one link to one of their sites (if relevant to the topic of the article) within the post.

If you’re interested in guest blogging please feel free to leave a comment on this post or use the contact form to get in touch with me. I’d prefer people that currently have blogs that they write in regularly so that I can see samples of their writing style. Thanks!
