Three weeks since I quit smoking

November 3, 2010 by Tricia

Well it’s been more than three weeks since I quit smoking! Actually since my husband and I quit – our house is smoke free now.

We’re both pretty proud of ourselves.

I’m still struggling. I have cravings every day, but I try to ignore them as best as I can. I’m very determined to never pick up another cigarette again.

This week I’m also feeling more emotional than usual. I don’t know if it’s the medication that I’m still taking to help me quit smoking (Zyban) or it’s just yet another side effect of quitting.

I finally told my whole family in an email last night that my husband and I had quit smoking and that’d we’d made it three weeks and one of my brothers wrote back today with a backhanded congratulations. I’d rather that he’d just not said anything instead of saying something like well let’s see where you are next October and then a long spiel about how smoking one cigarette will make us start again before he finally said that he’s proud of us for quitting.

His email just upset me. I didn’t just quit on a whim. I quit for my health. I have migraines with auras and there’s a history of stroke in my family and being female … that’s three strikes against me for increased risk of stroke and also the type of migraine that I have is Basilar and it has yet another increased risk of stroke. Being a smoker just added another stroke risk so by quitting I eliminated at least one potential stroke risk.

Anyway .. I’m going to forget about my brothers email right now.

A friend of mine wanted me to look at this site that sells wholesale water filters so I’m going to spend some time looking into it this evening. I think he’s thinking of buying one for his business and he wants my advice about it.

Didn’t feel like making dinner tonight

October 28, 2010 by Tricia

I didn’t feel like cooking dinner tonight. Do you ever have those kind of days?

I wasn’t feeling all that well today and the thought of standing in the kitchen for half an hour preparing dinner was just too much. Normally I don’t mind preparing and cooking dinner. I actually love cooking – just not tonight.

So … when my husband came home I suggested we get some take out food. McDonald’s. Yeah – I know, not a very healthy dinner, but we rarely eat food from places like McDonald’s. On days when I don’t feel like cooking I wish there was a big button in my kitchen that I could said click here or something and then ta da food would suddenly appear. Yeah – I know, I’m dreaming.

What did you have for dinner tonight?

Bird of prey in my backyard

October 27, 2010 by Tricia

I live in a large city, not too far from down town, but I still get a lot of wildlife in my yard. Perhaps it’s because I have a mature garden in my backyard.

Over the years since I first landscaped my backyard and planted all of my plants I’ve gradually seen more and more birds come into my garden year after year. Everything from Cardinals to Blue Jays frequent my garden regularly, and Hummingbirds visit throughout the summer.

Earlier today I saw something that I don’t normally see in my backyard. I saw a hawk of some kind. It might even have been a Peregrine Falcon. I ran inside the house to get my Nikon binoculars so I could get a better look but by the time I got back to the backyard the bird was gone.

Whatever the bird of prey was, it was pretty big! It was sitting on top of the electric pole in the corner of my backyard – perhaps looking for mice?

Do you ever see wildlife or unusual birds in your backyard?

Exhausted – I just can’t sleep

October 26, 2010 by Tricia

I’m so exhausted. I feel like I haven’t slept in days or even weeks.

Actually … that’s partially true. Ever since the end of August I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping or rather staying asleep because of a medication I started taking around that time. I think I was just starting to sleep a little better near the end of September but then at the beginning of October I started yet another new medication (Zyban to stop smoking) and that is now causing trouble sleeping. So I have two medications affecting my sleep.

If I keep going like this I’m really going to have to do a search for best under eye cream for dark circles because I’m starting to look as tired as I feel.

I usually don’t have much trouble falling asleep or staying asleep and I’ve never had a medication affect my sleep so badly. It’s terrible. If I keep having this much trouble sleeping I’m going to have to call my doctor and see if she can help me out.

Do you ever have a lot of trouble sleeping?

I think I lost a couple more pounds

October 26, 2010 by Tricia

I haven’t weighed myself this week, but I think I’ve continue to lose weight.

As of last week I’ve lost at least 18 pounds since early September. If this keeps up I’m going to have people I know coming up to me and asking me what the best fat burner is as they notice my weight loss. LOL

I’d better not lose much more weight. I already need to buy new clothes! New pants, new bras etc … everything I have is loose on me. Even my glasses are loose!
