Walking the dog

October 20, 2011 by Tricia

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been trying to get out for more exercise with our dog. I’ve been taking her out for a mid day walk. It’s good for my dog and it’s good for me. My husband has been the main dog walker overall .. but it’s time that I took my turn at dog walking too – for my dogs sake and mine.

I kind of like exploring my neighborhood as we walk around. I try to walk in a different area each day. Sometimes we’ll walk towards the Danforth and other times we’ll walk around various residential streets. I’m actually amazed at how many houses for rent I’ve been seeing lately. I didn’t think I’d see so many at this time of year … but I guess rentals do come up year round.

Sometimes I bring my camera with me on our walks so that I can take pictures of either unusual things that I see or pretty flowers or at this time of year lovely fall colors.

Do you go for a regular walk either on your own or with your dog? It’s nice isn’t it?

What’s with everyone going on vacation this week?

October 20, 2011 by Tricia

A few people I know are on vacation this week. My brother is in Mexico and and so is another girlfriend of mine and another friend took a trip to Florida. It figures … just when it starts to get cold and rainy here in Toronto several people I know head off to warm places. Sigh!

Actually … one of my friends is on a scuba diving trip and she sent an email the other day with a few pictures that she took underwater. I’m a photographer as well so loved seeing the images she sent.

In her email she also told me about a new toy that she was going to try on her next dive – they’re liquid image summit series goggles and they’re basically diving goggles that allow you to film your dive. Pretty cool! I’m waiting to hear back from her so I can find out how it worked.

Have you gone on a vacation recently or are you going on a vacation? I won’t be going on one anytime soon even though I’d love to!

I need a spa day

October 17, 2011 by Tricia

I think it’s time for one of those treat myself to something nice days. I was talking to my sister on the weekend and she encouraged me to treating myself to something like a spa day.

Of course I can’t afford a full spa day – or at least I don’t think I can. Perhaps I should look into some of those discount deals a little closer – hmmm? In the meantime … I was thinking that tomorrow might be one of those “treat myself” days.

I’ve already booked an appointment to have my hair done. Believe me, it needs a cut and the lady I go to does this wonderful scalp treatment that’s delicious. I normally don’t like a scalp massage, but whatever she does is wonderful.

After I return home from having my hair done I’m going to give myself a facial, manicure and pedicure – you know- the works. I’ll get my handy seki edge tools out and go to work and ta da everything will look wonderful. LOL or well .. that’s the way things are supposed to turn out.

Do you ever give yourself a spa day or a “treat yourself” day? I think sometimes you need to pamper yourself.

Get away for the long weekend?

October 7, 2011 by Tricia

It seems like almost everyone in my family is getting away this weekend or next week. Except me and my oldest brother.

I’d love to get away if I could. It’s a long weekend here since it’s Thanksgiving and for once it seems we don’t have plans with my husbands family for the holiday. Obviously we don’t have plans with my family either … so … I wonder if it’s too late to find a place to go for the weekend .. even if it’s just overnight one night?

Maybe a quick trip to Niagara Falls or a cabin with rustic barnwood furniture or something? Since it’s a long weekend it might be hard to get a booking and it might be more expense, but you never know. Hmmm .. my husband is out right now, but when he gets in I’m going to see what he thinks of the idea.

This time of year is expensive for parents

October 4, 2011 by Tricia

I’ve always wanted kids but I think there’s one thing I’ve lucked out on by not having them yet .. this time of year seems to be mighty expensive! All of my friends that have kids have been spending tons of money in the last two months getting their kids ready for school.

My friends with kids have been buying school clothes, school supplies, school uniforms and school text books and so on. I’m sure they’d love to find ways to save money at this time of year.

Actually, one of my friends was talking about using something called scholastic coupons to save some money. I’d never heard of this before .. but then I don’t have kids so I never look for this kind of money saving coupon I suppose. Have you ever used or heard of scholastic coupons to save money on school supplies for your kids?

I’ll be thinking of those of you that are parents! Hopefully the spending that you need to do is slowing down!
