Family reunion planning

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

At the end of August we’re going to have a big family get together. My three brothers, my sister and all their kids are going to be coming to the Toronto area for a reunion week. We’re going to have a week of barbeque’s, fine dinning, and one of the days we are going to go on one of the Toronto dinner cruises on Lake Ontario.

Both of my parents are gone now and when my mother died in 2003 we all said that we’d make an effort to get together at least once a year. I don’t think we managed to do it in 2004 – but we’d spent a huge portion of the previous year together as my mother was dying. Work wise and probably emotional recovery wise we just weren’t able to do it.

In 2005 we got together in Ottawa. Our former hometown. We did the same last year for my aunts 80th birthday and this year it’s going to be in the Toronto area where three of us live now.

I’ve got a lot of planning to do. I’ve still got to book the cruise that we’re going to go on. I was thinking that we might go up north to Alora to see the Alora Gorge and to water tube down the river. That’s so fun!

Have you ever been tubing? We all went up there a number of years ago and tubed down the gorge. It was a really hot day so the cool water was beautiful!

Does your family have regular reunions?

The mailbox lid stays open

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

I need to get a new mailbox. I’ve been saying that for a while but I really need to get one. We’ve got one of those Mailboxes that are mounted on a wall and the lid will barely close now.

It just stays open when the mailman comes along to put mail in it. I have to push down hard on the lid to close it. It opens just fine but it wants to stay open all the time.

I’m going to go out shopping this weekend for some new clothes. I guess I’ll make a stop at a few other stores to look for a new mailbox too.

Anyone losing their hair?

July 5, 2007 by Tricia

Ok I’m taking a poll:

How many men reading this have a receding hairline? or even a bald spot? Ladies? Is your mans hair getting a little thin?

The reason I’m asking is that lately I’ve noticed that my husbands hair is getting a little thin at the crown. He’s always had a very full head of hair so I’ve been very surprised to see this spot developing. His father has a full head of hair too, which is why I supposed that Chris would always have a full head of hair.

I guess I shouldn’t have thought that though. Thinning hair is a common enough problem for both men and women. Chris uncle is bald so I know there are some hair loss problems in the family.

Hmm if Chris’ thinning crown gets bigger or loses more hair I might have to send him to Dr. Larry Shapiro. LOL Sorry a little joke. That’s a doctor that specializes in hair transplants. I’m pretty sure Chris won’t need that. It’s not that bad and if it does get worse I think we can live with it.

Get home insurance quotes

July 4, 2007 by Tricia

If you are buying a house or presently own your own home and have been looking for new home insurance you might want to visit Insurance.com.

The site is very easy to use. Just type in your zip code and go through a few small question screens that will help determine exactly what kind of home insurance you are looking for and you’ll be presented with a number of quotes.

You’ll be able to view all of the quotes that you are returned from the national insurance companies that are partnered with Insurance.com and choose which quote / insurance best suites your needs.

There’s even a call center at Insurance.com that is staffed with qualified insurance professionals so if you don’t feel comfortable shopping for your home insurance online you can simply call insurance.com and their staff will walk you through the whole process.

If you are new to purchasing home insurance you’ll also find home insurance articles and FAQ’s on the site. You’ll quickly have a better idea of what your insurance needs are once you read the articles and FAQ’s.

Bookmark this site if you don’t need home insurance at this time. You might want to compare quotes at a later date.

Use FriendshipFinder to meet friends and singles

June 28, 2007 by Tricia

If you’re interesting in meeting new people, talking to others online and perhaps meeting in real life you might be interested in visiting FriendFinder. It’s always great when you can meet new people from the comfort of your own home isn’t it?

FriendshipFinder looks like it would be a great site to meet people in your area. Whether you are looking to date or just make friends.

Just for the heck of it I signed up and did a search for women in Ontario. Obviously I’m not looking to date! I just wanted to see how many other women in my area were looking for friendship and I was able to find a few from my general area of the province.

You can do a basic search on FriendshipFinder without signing up, but if you want to contact any of the members that come up in your searches you’ll have to sign up to send them a message or to chat with them using the FriendshipFinder chat system.

Considering that I’m stuck at home due to my illness I can’t get out as much with my friends and I’m not often in situations these days where I can make new friends so I can see how joining FriendshipFinder might be nice in that I’ll have a few more people to talk with if I do make any friendship connections.

One nice thing about a site such as this is that it allows you to get to know someone first before you perhaps take a chance and meet them in person.

Members make profiles, and can put up photos of themselves so you can get an idea of what they look like and what their interests are before you contact them. Then, as I said earlier, you can chat with them online as much as you want before making plans to possibly meet in person.

I’m sure that by the time you actually meet the person you’ll feel like you already know them if you’ve talked to them a few times online. I know when I’ve made friends with people on the internet in the past and eventually met them it always already felt like I knew them.
