Have you seen the bean?

This weeks theme is Metal

I’ve posted photos of Chicago’s famous Cloud Gate sculpture -aka The Bean – on a few of our blogs, but I don’t think I’ve posted this photo.

The bean is a huge spherical metallic sculpture in Chicago’s Millennium Park. Depending upon where you are standing when you gaze at the bean you can see different aspects of the surrounding city reflected in it’s almost spotless surface.

What you can see reflected in The Bean in this photo is what I think was a place called the Millennium Theater. It’s a huge outdoor theater or band shell and it’s got a gorgeous design.

Time to get in shape

March 18, 2008 by Tricia

Back in September Chris and I went shopping for some exercise equipment. I had wanted to get in a little better shape before my trip to Las Vegas last November.

I actually bought a lot of stuff. A balance ball, a Pilates DVD, an elliptical machine and some stretchy band type exercise equipment. I honestly can’t remember the proper name for the last stuff. I guess it’s resistance training equipment?

Anyway. My Crohn’s was acting up very badly last fall and while I did get on the elliptical several times I can’t say that it did much good or that I was able to put all that much effort into it. My Crohn’s has actually been quite bad even through the winter so getting into a routine never happened.

Oh and we got a puppy at the end of November too. Heck, even my blogging slowed down because of her arrival!

Now that our puppy is almost 7 months old and is able to entertain herself a little bit I think I can try to get back to using the elliptical again. Of course, spring and nice weather will soon arrive too so I’ll be taking longer walks with our dog too. Getting back to exercising and taking longer walks should help me get back into shape. I hope!

Have you purchased exercise equipment and then for some reason or another ended up not using it as much as you thought you would? I know I’ve done that a few times in the past with health club memberships!

I wonder what he’ll buy next

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

My electronics and gadget loving oldest brother hasn’t sent any mass emails to family and friends lately telling us about about the latest thing he’s purchased.

Usually these emails are accompanied by at least 20 pictures of the object taken at all angles. A little overkill since most of the photos look pretty much the same as the next. Thank God I’m not on dial up anymore. It was killer to get an email from him way back when!

It’s been so long since he sent a “purchase” email that I fully expect to get one any day now. I wonder what kind of new toy he’ll have bought himself? Maybe a portable GPS system or something like that?

Do you have any friends or family members that are like that? They just have to have the latest gadgets and they have to tell everyone they know about it. Repeatedly!

It’s kind of funny really.

Should I upgrade or get a new laptop?

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

I’m trying to decide whether I’ll buy a new laptop, my husband could use one, or simple upgrade the one I have. I know it would probably be a heck of a lot cheaper to simply upgrade our current laptop with more laptop memory, but having a second laptop around is very appealing too.

I guess since we don’t have a lot of spare cash at the moment an upgrade is more likely … still it’s nice to dream of things we could use isn’t it?

Easter hunt for dogs

March 16, 2008 by Tricia

I think I’ve invented what could be an Easter Hunt for dogs instead of young kids.

Every once in a while when my puppy seems to be acting hungry or deserves a treat I’ll get a very small handful of dry dog food. I throw a couple on the ground ahead of me and whiles she’s occupied I’ll drop one or two somewhere else. Throwing one on a couch or chair, at the base of the stairs and so on.

She loves it. It becomes a food hunt for her and it keeps her busy for 10 to 15 minutes at a time because even once she’s retrieved all the hidden treats she’ll keep checking around to make sure she didn’t miss any. I guess that’s probably because the smell of the food is still hanging around.

Do you do fun things with your dog or other pets to make it think and have some fun?
