Getting ready for our trip

October 26, 2007 by Tricia

The other night I started going over some of the things we’ll need for our trip to Vegas. I printed out our electronic airline tickets that don’t look like tickets at all (shouldn’t they?), and I printed out the information for our travel medical insurance as well. Since I have Crohn’s we definitely had to get medical insurance. I can’t imagine what would happen if I got sick and had to be hospitalized in the US without medical insurance! Scary thought, believe me!

I also went to the airlines website and found a list of all the restrictions on items that you can bring on board a plane. You know, things like containers of fluid – shampoos and such that only have 100 ml or less in them, no Swiss Army knives or nail clippers or files – that kind of stuff.

It’s not like I plan on bringing a bunch of stuff, but since we haven’t traveled anywhere by air for quite a while I want to be up on all these rules. If we traveled more often this would be a breeze!

Sometime in the next day or two I’m also going to try to remember to call our travel agency to see if I really did get our electronic airline tickets or not. They just don’t look right.

I hope we use our travel club membership!

October 26, 2007 by Tricia

I was just thinking … now that we have a membership with a discount travel club – thanks to having booked our Las Vegas travel package through them – Chris and I should be able to get some really good travel deals!

Chris is afraid of flying though! I guess we’ll see how he does on our Las Vegas trip in two weeks and if he does ok maybe we’ll finally start traveling more often. I’d love to perhaps rent one of those vacation home Orlando for a week or so in March. The weather there would be a heck of a lot nicer than it is here at that time of year and the advantages of staying in a home rather than a hotel would be very nice.

I really don’t like staying in hotels at all. They’re too cramped! I guess hotel rooms remind me of my tiny tiny apartment that I had before we bought this house!

So I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that Chris doesn’t get to panicky on the plane to Las Vegas and keeps an open mind about traveling more often. I mean, I’ve been looking at some of the deals available to us now and it would be so nice to take advantage of these packages and get away for a while.

Pushy shoppers tick me off

October 24, 2007 by Tricia

So, yesterday I started to talk about an adventure I had in Walmart on Sunday. Want to know what happened?

My husband and I had been out shopping – getting some clothes at the mall for our trip to Las Vegas, buying groceries and getting a few other things at Walmart. We’d been on our feet for hours and we were both tired and hungry.

When we finally got in line for one of the cashiers at Walmart we noticed two women standing to the side of our line with their shopping cart. We knew we’d been in line before them and I was sure they were going to try to bud in front of the person ahead of me.

I was keeping an eye on things because I figured there’d be fireworks.

Well they didn’t try to bud in line ahead of the lady with two young children that was ahead of me. Nope. They budded in front of us!

I was determined to not let them in but they kept shoving their cart so hard that it kept banging into the lady ahead of me’s legs! She was holding a baby in her arms. I was afraid that she’d end up falling and that either she or the child would get hurt so I backed off and let the two rude ladies who pretended to speak no English bud in line ahead of me.

I’m tall though so I stood immediately behind them – towering over them since they were both four foot nothing.

I guess I intimidated them because they continued to bang their cart into the lady that had been ahead of me.

Why are people so darn rude! Yes the line ups were long at the Walmart – they always are, but that doesn’t give anyone the right to bully their way into line by almost knocking people over!

I know I shouldn’t have let them in line, but I didn’t want to be part of the cause of someone getting injured.

I was steamed all evening over what these two ladies had done!

I hope we renovate our basement soon

October 24, 2007 by Tricia

Yesterday I was invited to enter into a special partnership with a company that calls itself a private online shopping club. I decided to take the company up on it’s offer and join as there seems to be some benefits to me such as big discounts on trendy clothing and high quality furniture if I were interested in buying as well as referral fees.

As I was looking around the site I saw some beautiful leather home theater seating, similar to a few of the sets shown on that page.

It caught my eye because when we get around to finishing our basement I think we might set it up as a home theater. Right now we’ve got our big screen HD TV in the living room, but I have other plans for the joined living room dining room and it’s always been our plan to move the TV downstairs. So why not really do it up and create a beautiful home theater room?

I know our renovation is probably a year or more in the future, but I can’t help trying to plan ahead of time!

Grumbly rainy day

October 23, 2007 by Tricia

Another day goes by and I still have a headache? Well it’s been pouring rain all day – scratch that – it’s been pouring rain since 1 am so maybe the rain has something to do with my headache and generally sour mood today?

Chris has the day off work and he was kind enough to go down to the passport office for me to try to get them to fix the error on my new passport. Remember they gave me a different birthplace. Uh huh. I’m really pleased with that since I’m going out of the country in two weeks! They did tell my husband that they’d put a rush on it and that my new passport would be available for pick up in two days. I just hope the new one doesn’t have any errors.

Since Chris is home today we were going to go out and get our hair cut and I wanted to do a little more shopping for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas, but I’m just not feeling up to going out and battling the crowds.

I didn’t tell you about the run in – literally – that I had with two women who budded in front of me in line at Walmart on Sunday did I? I’ll tell you about that one later. Some people are so darn rude!
