Kitchen planning and Kitchen designs

April 4, 2008 by Tricia

Ever since we became home owners nearly 7 years ago my husband and I have been slowly renovating our home.

We’ve done everything from knocking down walls to open up and connect rooms, tore out all the carpeting, sanded and varnished the hardwood floors on the main level and upstairs, renovated the master bedroom and one of our spare bedrooms, put in a skylight (that leaks!) and renovated the living room dining room area. Oh yes, we also landscaped the front and backyards too!

We’re slowly losing steam as we go. In fact our living room dining room reno isn’t quite finished! I’m afraid that we might never get around to finishing our basement, the upstairs bathroom and perhaps the kitchen.

If we can afford it we might hire professionals to do one of our renovation jobs.

As daunting as our do it yourself renovation projects might seem I think the project I’d most likely leave to the professionals would be the kitchen. The kitchen is where family and visitors alike tend to gather, and as anyone who’s purchased or sold a home knows, having a modernized kitchen is very important. In fact, it’s so important it can make or break a sale! I believe bathrooms are next on the list of deal makers and breakers.

Considering that I’ve always got a renovation project on the go and others to plan I tend to visit interior design related websites. I like to stay current as to what the design trends are and which products are being used to create spectacular looking rooms.

One of the sites that I’ve visited recently is EWKitchens.com. The company is based in Michigan and they’ve been in business since 1947. The company has evolved over the years from being Michigan’s largest cabinet supplier to full service kitchen planners, designer and distributor. I believe they have three showrooms in Michigan.

If you are in the area and are planning a kitchen renovation it would certainly be in your interest to contact them and talk with one of their kitchen planners or Kitchen Designers. You can discuss your concept of an ideal kitchen design with them as they specialize in assisting clients with the planning and installation of luxury kitchens.

I’m in Canada so it’s not likely I’ll use their services myself, but I’ve gained some ideas and knowledge from their site if in the event that I ever choose to hire a professional to renovate our small kitchen. In the resource section I found three very helpful articles. The articles discuss everything from What every homeowner needs to know when selecting a kitchen designer, important questions to ask your kitchen designer, and reasons why everyone can afford a luxury kitchen.

I found the last article very helpful as it discussed the importance of setting a budget and then choosing quality products within your price range in order to achieve a luxury kitchen. After all, luxury doesn’t necessarily mean most expensive.

I spent quite a bit of time browsing through their photo galleries. There are four photo galleries to choose from which highlight classic kitchen styles, contemporary kitchens and the blending of the two styles to create unique designs. There are also photos of wet bars, and walk in pantries for those of you with enough space to add such features. I’m sure you’ll get quite a few new ideas after you’ve browsed their photo galleries.

If you live in Michigan or in a nearby State and you’re thinking of renovating your kitchen contact EW Kitchens and talk with one of the members of their design team.

Making a tiny bathroom seem larger

March 28, 2008 by Tricia

Since Chris has been home for the last few days with the flu we’ve had some time to talk about our renovation plans. I think we’ve pretty much decided that our upstairs bathroom will be the next room that we tackle.

I hate our bathroom. It’s so tiny! I mean, I have to turn sideways to get to the toilet as I pass the sink and bathtub. There’s only a foot or less worth of space between the two!

We can’t afford to tear out the whole bathroom and make it larger at this time. However, we can paint it a lighter color to make it seem larger, replace the dingy bathroom lighting and possibly get a smaller bathroom vanity.

We already have a very small vanity. It’s only 21 inches deep I believe, but we obviously need something even smaller. I’m thinking of getting a narrow pedestal and a basin sink that sits on top of the stand. Depending upon what we find that might give us 6 to 12 inches more space between the sink and bathtub.

I think I’ll spend sometime brainstorming later today on how I can make our tiny bathroom feel larger. Any ideas?

Selling your home? Update your bathroom first

March 25, 2008 by Tricia

In one of my posts the other day I was saying how we hoped to finish off our living room dining room renovation sometime in the next month or two. Once the weather starts to get a little nicer anyway. Well, sometime after that project is done we’ll probably get started on either our upstairs bathroom or renovating the basement.

You’d think we’d sit back and enjoy finally having all ongoing reno projects finished, but no, I just want to get it all done and it will probably be at least a year before our house is finished just the way we want it if not more.

Now that it’s spring have you started to think about starting to renovate part of your home? Or if not renovate perhaps change the appliances or decor?

Perhaps you are thinking of selling your home soon? Did you know that having a nice up to date bathroom and kitchen can help you sell your home faster and perhaps even secure a better sale price?

If you’re thinking of updating your bathroom you might want to take a look at the selection of bathroom vanities at Premiere Vanities. They’re the largest online vanity store with more than 150 different kinds of bathroom vanities. They also have a number of lovely linen cabinet designs to chose from too.

When we begin to work on our bathrooms we’ll likely be looking at single bathroom vanities at least for the upstairs bathroom. Unless we expand that room it’s far to small for a double vanity although we could probably get away with a double vanity in the downstairs bathroom.

Certainly a couple who tend to get ready for work each day at the same time or perhaps those living in a large household would do well with a double vanity. It would certainly save some time in the morning for everyone!

If you are upgrading your washroom, no mater whether your preference is single or double bathroom vanities do take the time to have a look at the selection at Premiere Vanities. Their vanities are top of the line but the prices are wholesale so you can end up with a very impressive looking bathroom and save money at the same time.

You’ll find vanities of all styles and sizes. Among your choice of styles you’ll be able to choose from basin vanities, antique, traditional, wood and contemporary vanities.

One thing that I like about this company is that they have a 30 day no questions asked return policy as well as Free Shipping for any bathroom vanity purchase. You can’t beat that! Go get yourself a drink and then come back and browse through their selection.

Working on new sites

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

I haven’t been feeling very well over the last few days, but as I’ve felt up to it I’ve been trying to work on some of my new sites.

One of my new sites is a home and garden related blog. I’ve already got a gardening blog where I try to mostly write about garden related topics but I’ve found over the last year that more and more home decor and home reno posts have made their way there so that’s why I created a new blog. The new blog will likely have more home than garden topics.

Another new site that I’m working on is shopping related. There I’ll talk about the latest fashion and make up styles, plus I’ll do posts about home decor, furnishings, appliances and give tips on how to get things done in and around the home so much easier.

I’m sure there’ll be lots of posts of interest between the two blogs and I hope that you’ll come to visit them when I’m ready to reveal their urls. No, don’t worry – the posts won’t be just wrinkle cream reviews although I expect when I talk about cosmetics I will discuss some skin creams. There should be quite a variety of topics and I’m sure that you’ll like the sites.

Great items and gift ideas at Urshop

February 29, 2008 by Tricia

Lately I’ve found that I’ve been doing more and more of my shopping online. I’ve purchased things for my dog as well as gifts for my pregnant niece recently. The next things that I’ll probably end up purchasing online will likely be some decor items for my garden and possibly some new plants.

If you enjoy shopping online you might want to visit www.urshop.us. The site has two online catalogs full of great gift ideas or of course items that you might want to purchase for yourself.

If you visit the site just click on the shop button and you’ll be taken to a page where you can select from the Family Avenue catalog or the World of Products catalog.

The Family Avenue catalog has figurines, gift baskets, home decor items, pet beds, bath sets, clothing items, photo frames and a whole lot more.

The World of Products catalog appears to be larger than the Family Avenue Catalog. There are 18 categories of items to choose from! You’ll find products in the Outdoor Living category for the garden, barbecuing, eating outdoors and for making your outdoor time all the more enjoyable. Then there are sections such as Home Decor, Just for Her, Bath and body, fountains, Candles and Scents, Americana, Just for Him, Kitchen and household and for the family as well as a few others.

I found several items that I really liked. Ones that I’d use in my own home or be more than happy to give as gifts. I’m sure you’ll find a few items you can use too!

Oh and looking through the catalogs is very much like looking through a real catalog. The advantage of course is that you can click on any item that grabs your interest and get more information about it. I really did find that the site was easy to use.

Why don’t you check out Urshop for yourself.
