A special birthday

September 23, 2010 by Tricia

It’s my nephews birthday next week. He’s turning 21!

I think my in-laws are having a birthday party for him on Sunday at their house.

I bought a gift for him online and I was hoping that it would have arrived by today … but it should arrive by tomorrow. I hope! I know he’s going to like it. It’s a new iPod.

One thing that was kind of cool was that when I made my purchase I received some aj madison coupons. I thought that was a nice deal. Now I’ll have to find something to use them on.

I was kind of surprised when I realized how old my nephew was going to be. You see, my sister in law was about 3 months pregnant with him when I my husband and I first started seeing each other. So I guess that means that we’ve been together for close to 22 years! Wow that sounds like a long time doesn’t it?

Anyway a 21st birthday is pretty special, so hopefully he’ll enjoy his birthday.

A traditional 10th Wedding Anniversary Gift

September 5, 2010 by Tricia

Some close friends of ours will be celebrating their tenth wedding anniversary next month and we’ll be helping them celebrate by attending a party held in their honor.

Now all I need to do is figure out what to get our friends as a tenth anniversary gift ?

I spent some time online earlier today doing a little research. Did you know that a 10th wedding anniversary gift is supposed to be aluminum?

Now I know that people don’t always buy wedding anniversary gifts according to the exact anniversary a couple is celebrating – well, with the exception of the 25th (silver) and 50th (gold), but I decided to try and find a traditional 10th anniversary gift.

It didn’t take me long to come across a website called “Paper Roses”. They have a wide selection of traditional wedding gifts. Believe it or not I actually found aluminum roses. They’re really cool looking! They look quite real.

I finally settled on getting them an aluminum vase. They can use it for aluminum roses if someone else happens to get those for them, real roses or other flowers. It’s quite nice and I think they’ll like it. Best of all – it’s a traditional gift that is absolutely perfect as a 10th wedding anniversary gift. I’m sure they’ll be pleased.

Do you try to buy traditional anniversary gifts for your friends or relatives too?

I’d hate to have long commutes to work

August 14, 2010 by Tricia

I was just talking with my brother in law on the phone. He’s a school teacher in the USA and even though he’s been a teacher for close to 20 years he’s been having trouble getting a permanent shop lately.

His latest job is in North Carolina. School just started this past week so he had an interesting job at his new school and new home. Now all he’s got to do is find health insurance in nc and he’ll be set.

Of course his family lives in another state so he has to travel back and forth. He’ll go home on the weekends and then on Sunday evenings he’ll drive back to NC to work for the week.

I’d hate to live away from my husband and family all week and only see them on the weekends. I don’t know how he does it. I guess that’s what you have to do to have a job these days though.

Do you have to commute long distances to work … maybe staying over in a different city during the week? If so – how do you manage?

Weekend plans totally changed – grrrr

July 30, 2010 by Tricia

It looks like I’m going to be on my own this weekend and possibly for a few days next week too.

That’s not the way the weekend was planned originally though …

A friend of my husbands older brother is having this big party on Saturday for his 30th wedding anniversary. He rented a boat to hold the party on in the Muskoka region. Even though the main party is Saturday night it’s pretty much a whole weekend thing since several old friends will be getting together for the first time in several years. I guess it’s kind of like a reunion.

Anyway … Chris brother is driving up today from Chicago and he rented hotel rooms for Chris and I and himself and his son. Unfortunately the hotel isn’t dog friendly so we can’t bring our Lab with us. We also can’t find anyone willing to look after her this weekend since it’s a long weekend here in Canada.

On top of that we were supposed to go to my husband sisters “cottage” (really a trailer in a trailer park in the middle of nowhere) on Sunday through to Tuesday or Wednesday. However, now she’s saying we can’t bring our dog because her husband is allergic to dogs.

She did suggest that we keep our dog outside all the time, but our dog is a “house’ dog and she’s never stayed outside all night so I’m sure she’d be barking her head off. Plus she’s in heat and being up in the middle of nowhere I’d also be worried about coyotes and other wild animals.

So … that means one of us has to stay home to take care of our dog. Of course it’s me …

I was really looking forward to getting out of town for a few days and of course going to the party on Saturday night. I guess Midnight and I will have to have our own Party.

Chris is going to take off early tomorrow morning so I’m going to help him pack tonight. Yeah, he could pack on his own, but I’ve been on trips with him where he forgot t-shirts and once he even forgot to pack underwear .. so uhm .. I think I’ll help him make sure he’s got everything he needs. LOL

The party tomorrow night is formal so I’ll have to pack up a suit and one or two of Chris’ designer ties. Geez … I even had a dress already to go for this party.

If we didn’t have a dog or if we had a reliable pet sitter our plans wouldn’t have been thrown such a curve ball.

Do you have pets? Do you ever have to change your plans because of pet related complications?

I’m so happy for my friend

July 15, 2010 by Tricia

I just found out that a very good friend of mine is expecting a baby. I’m so excited for her and her husband.

She was so excited when she called me that I thought she was going to end up passing out while on the phone. LOL

They’ve been trying for a baby for so long. It’s like their dream has come true.

Sometime this weekend we’re going to get together and I think we’re going to go shopping. She’s so excited she wants to go out and look at things for the babies room and find the best prenatal vitamins so she’ll have a healthy and hopefully trouble free pregnancy.

I’m a little jealous as I’ve been hoping to get pregnant forever and I’m starting to believe that it’s just not going to happen for me. I guess I’ll just have to be the best “aunt”.
