Diet pills for dogs?

May 13, 2008 by Tricia

You know, before we got our puppy I didn’t really know how many different products were out there for cats and dogs. We’d always kept reptiles and this is our first experience with having a dog for both of us.

The pet market is a huge industry! I knew it was, but I didn’t realize how many companies specialize in clothing for pets and pet medicines and so on. People will do anything for their pets won’t they?

I was really surprised a few months ago when I was flipping through a magazine and I saw an ad for diet pills for dogs. I think there’s television commercials for the product too.

I have to say that I really don’t agree with the idea of giving a dog diet pills. I mean unless it’s in poor health and that causes it to be very inactive. Putting the dog on a diet, not feeding it table scraps and extra snacks and taking it out for more walks is the way to go.

What do you think of diet pills for dogs?

I took this photo a few years ago, but this is what Toronto looks like right now. Well, ok the leaves on the trees are almost fully filled out right now, but it’s close to how it looks. Ok? 🙂

This photo was taken as we drove along LakeShore Blvd. There’s a clear view of Lake Ontario.

This is a popular area for anyone who loves the outdoors, getting fit or walking their pets. Chris and I have gone to the beach to walk along the boardwalk with our puppy Midnight a few times already this year. We’re hoping to make it a regular weekend outing.

Picked up some new skin treatments

May 9, 2008 by Tricia

A few weeks ago when Chris and I were shopping in a pharmacy I decided to try some new skin products. I had wanted to buy a mask – you know one of those skin purifying pore cleansing masks. I used to use them when I was a teenager and when I first moved to Toronto, but then I stopped. My skin always felt so great after giving it a treatment.

So Chris and I were walking around the skin cream and acne treatment aisle and I found two masks that I wanted to try. One is a mask my St. Ives that you leave on till it dries and then peel off and the other is kind of like a mud mask.

The second treatment is by Biore. It’s their self heating mask and it’s fantastic! It’s a white paste with tiny blue dots in it that you apply with slightly moist fingers. As the formula gets wet it heats up and as you massage this heat mask into your face it cleans and purifies your skin.

Have you tried it? If you haven’t but want to try it I recommend using it at night just before you go to bed. The heat massage is very relaxing. You’ll love it.

Use a Natural Oxygen pool treatment and save money as well as the environment

May 9, 2008 by Tricia

I hope that everyone is enjoying the lovely spring weather. It’s been cool here so far this May, much cooler than April was if you can believe that, but I know that there are warm days on the way. Perhaps you live in an area where it’s already warm enough that you’ve started planning what you’ll do on those hot summer days?

I wish we had a pool, but our yard is far too small. A wading pool would have to suffice for us if we were hot enough to want to soak! Some of our friends do have pools and we’re lucky enough to be invited over for pool parties often enough each summer.

Our friends that have pools have been starting to to talk about getting their pools ready for the upcoming season. I’m sure those of you with pools have been thinking about getting them ready too.

If you have a pool or if you’ve been thinking about putting a pool in this year have you spent any time thinking about what kind of water treatment you’ll use? It’s one of the most important parts of pool maintenance from my understanding.

I’m all for environmentally friendly pool treatment systems. We garden organically and try to live as green as possible so it only makes sense that if we did have a pool we’d want the safest type of water treatment.

If you feel the same way or if you’re interested in learning more about eco friendly pool treatments you should take a moment to visit Ecosmartepool.com. They specialize in chlorine free pool filters and spas.

By now I think that just about everyone knows that chlorine treated water or pool systems aren’t very good for the environment.

I always thought that salt chlorinators were a safe alternative, but after reading some of the information and articles over at Ecosmartepool.com I know better!

Did you know that salt water pools actually use chlorine generators to keep the water clean. Chlorine generators require quite a bit of maintenance, some produce messy byproducts that isn’t easily disposed of, and as I said before Chlorine treatments really aren’t considered green.

Why not use a system that’s 100% chemical free? That’s were EcoSmarte comes in … They specialize in salt water, chlorine and hazardous chemical free pool systems. They also have a line of spa and pond systems as well that are equally chemical free.

EcoSmarte’s pool systems use natural oxygen to maintain the quality of the water in your pool. Natural oxygen systems are more effective than ones that use bacquacil or bromine, plus they are easier to use than chlorine based systems. Not only that they are also safer than ozone treatments too.

One of the other products that EcoSmarte sells is called EcoSmart filter glass media. This can be used for pool treatment systems.

One of the things that I like about EcoSmarte is that they are dedicated to protecting the environment. They actually donate 5% of their profits to environmental charities. They have a strong belief in their water treatment systems and are in fact, against Chlorine and Salt water based pool treatments.

There’s lots of good reason to consider switching to a natural oxygen based pool treatment system. One of them is the fact that you won’t be purchasing dangerous hazardous chemicals to maintain your pool system. That will not only make your pool maintenance storage area safer if you have kids or pets, but by not having to buy all those chemicals you’ll save a ton of money! Think about it!

Oh and you’ll save on your energy bill too. The EcoSmarte pool system is so energy efficient that it costs less than $1 a month to operate. Cool! You can reduce your carbon footprint with your energy savings!

If you’re thinking about visiting the EcoSmarte website to read some of their articles or perhaps thinking of contacting them to get one of their product brochures or a free quote you’ll be pleased to know that they also offer a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and a 5 year warranty on all purchases.

EcoSmarte definitely seems to be a company that believes in and stands by their product. Do visit the site if you have a pool or if you’re thinking of installing a pool in the near future.

How to get a better sleep?

May 1, 2008 by Tricia

Considering that I’ve been having so much trouble sleeping lately I’ve tried to come up with some ideas that will help me sleep better.

Now, unlike a lot of people that have trouble sleeping I also have a chronic disease that causes me pain – especially in the evenings. It’s Crohn’s disease and it seems once I have a couple of meals in me my pain only increases – hence the more pain at night thing.

I can’t do anything about eating as I’ve got to eat if I want to live, but I can try to manage my pain better.

We have a dog so taking her out for long walks at least once a day if not twice a day should help me get some exercise and that should help tire me out.

I have a lot of websites and I tend to work on them pretty much all the time. I think that from now on I should turn the computer off by midnight if not earlier. That will give my mind some time to settle down.

Now one cool thing that I could get that might help me sleep would be a massage chair. Eh? Wouldn’t that be great? I could sit in it and have a massage shortly before bedtime and maybe, just maybe I’d get a better sleep.

Do you have any other ideas that might help me get some sleep?
