How Taking Up The Use Of Steam Saunas Will Benefit Your Health

October 18, 2012 by Trish

Steam saunas are widely used in current due to the numerous health benefits they deliver. If you are not yet sure whether the treatments would be good for you, keep reading here to understand some of the health benefits you will get from using them.

Stress has among the most common diseases affected many individuals, stress affects numerous parts of human life negatively, luckily, a steam sauna can offer relief in a various ways, you will have peace, warm and a world of your own when you are soaked in the system. The warmth helps in triggering the release of endorphins, relaxing the body and improving circulation that all combine to give a wonderful after-sauna experience.

Relaxing and Recovering

When the body is exposed to a steam sauna, the heat triggers synthesis of endorphins, this is the feel-good endocrine associated with the relaxed feeling in the body.  Besides this, it also assists in soothing aches, joints and muscle pains. This makes it a suitable option for people who have just come out of intense workout. The heat also dilates blood vessels that in turn lead to improved blood flow, this effect speeds up healing of bruises and cuts and in addition to soothing aching muscles. After intense workout, steam sauna helps to get rid of lactic acid and other toxins associated with muscle tension.

Sweat It Out

Sweating is among the essential body processes that help in keeping the body healthy. Many people are involved in doing tasks that do not allow them to sweat heavily and rid the body of toxins. For the people who would like to experience these sweating advantages, a steam sauna can solve the problem, when you are exposed to the heat, the blood vessels expand increasing blood circulation, the sweat glands around the body are also activated leading to heavy sweating required to flush out the toxins. Sweating basically helps in controlling the body temperature, but deep sweating achieved in steam saunas, comes with extra advantages like reducing concentration of contents such as nickel, lead, copper, mercury, and zinc that are common toxins picked from the environment.

Skin benefits

The saunas remain among the most popular and healthiest ancient skin treatments. Deep sweating helps in cleansing and removal of the unwanted skin, this function helps to maintain your skin in perfect working condition. Sweat extracts bacteria in the ducts and epidermal layer, thereby allowing you to develop healthy looking exterior. When you are heavily sweating, the cells are swept up by some healthy minerals associated plumping up small wrinkles that might be forming. The liquid is also effective in breaking down the collagen substance attributed to formation of wrinkled skin.

The treatment has also been attributed with improving good sleeping habits. Apart from the increased production of endorphins, research has shown that when the temperature of the body is increased as the late evening, it falls towards bed time thereby leading to improved sleep. Several people are seeking sauna experience to benefit with the improved sleep.

Lastly, when you want to relax and hang out with your friends, a steam sauna will give you such an excellent opportunity. The environment is suitable for a quiet, intimate and open conversation.

How to Care for Your Skin Type

October 6, 2012 by Trish

Following what’s right for your skin type is the secret to an effective skin care regimen. If you try products that don’t suit your skin tone, chances are your skin would look worse, or you might experience some skin health problems- from simple pimples to dreaded skin cancer.

Basically, there are three skin types based on the colour or tone: fair, medium and dark. Before using a skincare regimen, you must identify your skin type first so your skin would be healthy and glowing.

Fair Tone

Caucasians and many Latinas fall in this category. Some Asians such as Koreans, Chinese and Japanese also have fair skin. The fair tone type is usually described as pale, bisque and porcelain.

Fair skin is usually very sensitive to sunlight and too much UV exposure since there is a low amount of melanin on the skin. Melanin is a hormone that’s responsible for the dark (brown) pigmentation of the skin that is necessary for body protection against ultraviolet rays and other environmental hazards. But, don’t worry – there’s something good about having fair skin. Possessing this skin type means you can have a uniform complexion much faster and easier than medium or dark skin tones.

For your basic skin regimen, use a skin cleanser depending on your skin type – normal, dry or oily. It is important to include an SPF 30 sunscreen in your routine to prevent unwanted UV damage. Retinol or creams containing alpha-hydroxyl acid (AHA) are perfect to put on your face and skin before going to bed.

Gentle micro dermabrasion kits are recommended for fair-skinned ladies like you. Since wrinkles and age spots are first seen in fair-skinned people, make sure that you prevent these by putting creams and other topical solutions specified for these skin problems, such as wrinkle-reducing creams and age-defying products.

Medium Tone

The skin tones that belong to the medium category include those that are from light beige to tan shades. Most people who live in the Middle East, Mediterranean countries, Latin nations and East Asia showcase medium skin tone. The medium tone contains more melanin compared to fair tone, which makes it better since you have more natural protection against the harsh ultraviolet rays. The signs of skin aging appear later on them than on fair-skinned people. The problem with medium tone skin is that it tends to produce more oils and show enlarged pores and visible pimples.

The basic skin care regimen that medium toned people need includes a salicylic acid wash, blotting papers to reduce oil, and high SPF sunscreen facial cream and lotion. Prescription hydroquinone creams recommended by your dermatologist can be helpful in solving hyper pigmentation problems.

Dark Tone

Coffee brown skin colours to rich ebony shades are included in the dark tone category. The dark skin tone is common among South Asians, Afro-Caribbeans and African-Americans. Among the three skin tones, the dark tone possesses the greatest production of melanin and thus, the best protection against sun damage. The common problems that dark toned people face, however, include hyper pigmentation and acne scars.

For the basic care for dark skin tone, salicylic acid wash and creams should be included in your daily skin care regimen. These prevent acne and other skin breakouts. Also, never forget to exfoliate at least three times a week to deeply clean your pores and remove ingrown hairs from the skin.

RejuvaDERM offers an extensive range of skin care products, which are available from their skin care store.

Mouth Ulcers – What They Are and How to Cure Them

October 1, 2012 by Trish

Mouth ulcers are a common condition that can affect anyone, although women and young adults tend to have them more often.

They are caused by a laceration of the mucus in your mouth, which becomes the painful sore spot that hurts inside your cheek.

They are not contagious as usually they are not an infection, therefore you won’t get them if you drink from the same glass someone else has used, or if you kiss someone who has an ulcer.

Mouth ulcers clear themselves usually within 2 weeks, but if it isn’t gone in 3 weeks you might want to consider seeing a doctor.

Usually ulcers happen occasionally, however some people keep getting them fairly often, and in this case they are called recurring mouth ulcers.

Causes of Occasional Ulcers

Usually these are caused by biting the inside of your mouth while you are eating, a sharp tooth or food, or even if you brush your teeth incorrectly.

Stress and anxiety can make your more prone, although don’t go thinking that all your ulcers mean you are stressed!

Food can also be a culprit apparently, it’s said that chocolate, cheese, strawberries, coffee and a few others can increase the likelihood of mouth ulcers.

If you stop smoking you might find you have a temporary increase in ulcers, which is due to the fact that the body is dealing with the change in chemicals. Should this happen, don’t let it put you off. Not smoking is the right thing to do, and the raise in ulcer frequency is only temporary.

Ulcers tend to go away on their own, but if you want mouth ulcer treatment there are remedies you can find easily online or in drug stores.

Recurrent Ulcers

Some people have to deal with those annoying sores regularly. In this case it’s worth seeing a doctor to determine the cause, but here are some.

You lack iron. When your body doesn’t have enough of it from your diet, your red blood cells can’t carry as much oxygen, so you tend to feel tired, dizzy or not very energetic. Such lack of iron can also cause mouth ulcers.

Vitamin B12 deficiency. This can also cause shortness of breath and tiredness, as well as mouth ulcers. Natural sources of Vitamin B12 are eggs, milk, meat (especially liver), poultry and fish, so this can be fixed once again by balancing your diet.

B12 is a bit harder to get if you are vegetarian, so if your doctor thinks B12 deficiency is the cause of your ulcers, you might need to obtain food supplements.

There are also some diseases that can cause recurrent mouth ulcers, but this is something I’d leave to a doctor to decide.

Have you found any remedies that work?

6 Good Habits Worth Developing

September 30, 2012 by Trish

“Watch your habits, for they become character.” It is important to watch our habits. It is also important to develop good habits. Developing good habits can give us better health, more time, and more fulfillment in our lives.

Here are 6 habits that can make a huge impact in your life:

1. Exercise

It is suggested that we get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day. Daily exercise is such a great habit to develop. It can help you relieve stress, give you time to think and brainstorm, give you more energy, etc. It also releases much needed endorphins into your body that can help you feel good all day long.

30 minutes a day is ideal, but start with whatever you have time for. Even taking the stairs instead of the elevator is a good start! On top of that, eat healthy and drink 8 glasses of water a day. Between these 3 things you should find yourself more energetic, healthier, and less stressed.

2. Get Up Early

It is important to get your sleep. So whenever you can fit that in is great. But it is even more beneficial to go to bed early and get up early. It has been said that an hour of sleep before midnight is worth two after midnight. So, the earlier you can get to bed the more impactful your sleeping time will be. On top of that, getting up early is a great habit. It’s good to get your day started early. The early bird catches the worm!

3. Set Goals

Setting goals is a great habit to develop. Goals help you have something to always be working towards. They help to give you more purpose in your day-to-day activities. They help give you the “why’s” behind what you’re doing. It is always good to have something to work towards. Set daily goals for yourself. What do you want to accomplish today? On top of that, set weekly, monthly, yearly, 5-year, and even lifetime goals. Check your goals often and track your progress. Reevaluate when needed.

4. Save Money

We could all use more money, right? Well instead of always waiting for that next big raise or job opportunity, take it into your own hands. It is recommended by many financial experts to save at least 10% of your income (and some experts recommend saving even more). Set up a budget, and make sure that budget includes at least 10% of your income going to savings. Then stick to your budget and savings plan. Put that money in a separate savings account and don’t touch it unless it’s an emergency or the goal you set the account up for. Whether you use those savings for retirement, a rainy day, or even a car or vacation, you will learn better self control, and experience more financial freedom if you can get in the habit of saving.

5. Say Thank You

Saying thank you is another wonderful habit to develop. Recognizing what others are doing for you, and looking for opportunities to express thanks, will help you develop a positive outlook. It will help you feel happier. And, as you say thank you to others, your newfound happiness and positivity will rub off on them. It will help everyone around you to have a happier attitude, and it will strengthen the relationships that you have with others.

6. Read

Growing in wisdom is something that we should all be doing as we move along in our lives. And reading is one of the best ways to do that. Reading can help us learn new things, develop creativity, expand our vocabulary, and create new skills for ourselves. But it doesn’t just have to just be education-centered books. Novels, biographies, even cookbooks or design books can help to expand our minds and our creativity. Whether it be daily, weekly, or even monthly, get in the habit of reading often.

My hand is slowly getting better

August 20, 2012 by Tricia

I haven’t been writing on any of my blogs in the last two or so months as much as I used to because of the hand injury that I incurred in early June.

My hand is still recovering as the injury was quite bad, but it’s much better than it was when it first occurred! It was bad enough for most of the last two months that I could barely type.

I tried using dictation software to type my posts for a while and that was working as long as the room was fairly quite or at the very least had a steady background sound level, but for most of late July and August there’s been someone home with me all the time so there’s been lots of noise in the house. Plus, when you have to “speak” your thoughts, your blog posts, your email replies, your Facebook responses, your Twitter posts .. well, there’s a certain lack of privacy if someone else is around to hear every single thing that you utter.

Don’t get me wrong, for the most part I don’t have any big secrets that I’m trying to keep from my husband or temporary renter in our house or anyone for that matter, but I’m not accustomed to every single thing that I write (and would have had to say, sometimes repeatedly to the dictation software to get it right) heard by everyone in my household. It’s pretty strange to get used to!

I still plan on using the dictation software. My hand is still healing after all. But I need the house to either be empty or at least the room I’m in to be empty and fairly quite for me to use the software – for multiple reasons.

In other news – since I haven’t posted for a while … yes we have a temporary renter in the house. I’ll probably write more about that at another time. He’s kind of driving me nuts at the moment and he’ll be out of the house very soon .. like hopefully today or tomorrow. Yeah! Fingers Crossed!
