I’ve had better days

I am feeling awful today. I’ve had a horrible migraine all week and this morning I woke up with awful stomach cramps … bad enough that at one point I thought I was going to pass out!

Yes I’ve had much better days.

I’m seriously into just relaxing this evening and I’m hoping that my migraine will just go away.

Last year at about this time I’d just started a new medication for my migraines – which for the most part has worked very well (but not this week). Oddly enough for the first few months of being on my migraine medication I suddenly started dropping weight. Everyone was asking me if I’d suddenly started taking weight loss pills or something because I was dropping weight so fast .. but no … it was just the new migraine meds and the severe lack of appetite that they gave me.

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending upon how you look at it, it seems that my appetite is back to normal although I still have some strange taste sensations from the medication. By this I mean I still can’t drink carbonated drinks like soft drinks or eat really fatty foods without them tasting odd or really salty. I guess that’s a good thing.

Ok … off to lie down with a big icepack on my head!





I love getting free samples in the mail

I absolutely love getting samples in the mail. The other day I got an email from P&G saying that they had a new batch of samples for their members so as quick as possible I went to their website and filled out my preferences. In a few weeks I’ll get a box full of goodies! Oh boy!

It seems that just about every week I get samples of something or another. Just the other day when I checked my mail I had a sample of an oro gold facial mask. I tried it out that evening and much to my delight it worked great.

Do you ever apply for samples online? If so, what type of products do you try to get samples of? As you can tell I like personal items such as cosmetics, skin care and sometimes food samples.

Should I get life insurance?

Is it bad that neither my husband or I have life insurance? I’ve been thinking about that lately and I thought maybe I should look around at life insurance rates to see how much it actually costs.

I used to have life insurance – started by my parents when I first moved to Toronto, but sometime in my twenties when I hit hard times I cashed in my policy and I never renewed it.

So what do you think .. should I get life insurance or not? And if so – what type? Keep in mind that my husband and I barely have any extra money!

What would you do if you won the lottery?

I almost never buy lottery tickets. In fact I didn’t buy lottery tickets this week, but my husband did. The lottery Max draw tonight is worth something like 30 million dollars!

Oh what I wouldn’t do to win even one tenth of that! It would be wonderful! All of our friends and family would be treated to a wonderful party and I’m sure we’d try to treat a lot of people (family) to things that they need.

By this I mean if we won enough money we’d pay off the rest of my sister and brothers mortgages and my husbands brothers and sisters mortgages too! Things like that. Maybe we’d even get everyone some of that Branson real estate that I keep hearing about all the time.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

Ok .. keeping my fingers crossed! and toes …

The Taste of the Danforth

My husband and I just got back from The Taste of The Danforth. It’s and Annual festival in my neighborhood celebrating all things Greek. Of course, that section of the Danforth is fairly multicultural now, so when visiting the “Taste of the Danforth” you can sample foods from India, Mexico, Greece, Thailand and pretty much anywhere as there are all kinds of restaurants along that 3 km stretch.

So .. my husband and I live in the Toronto Danforth area so we walked from our house to The Danforth and then walked up and down the whole Taste of the Danforth area. It was loud and crowded and it rained on us a few times. It was also quite hot and humid! After a while of walking I was almost looking forward to the rain to help me cool off!

In addition to sampling food at the Taste of the Danforth, my husband and went in to a few stores. The stores that normally close by 6 pm or so on Saturdays stay open until midnight during the Taste of the Danforth so you get to shop in stores that you normally wouldn’t. I actually went in a few stores that I normally wouldn’t have shopped in – my husband and I went in a record store that had vintage vinyl records, and we went into a few clothing stores.

We also went into one of the jewelery stores just to browse around. We were both jewelers when we met and we know the jeweler who owns the store we went in to so it was sort of a visit. we got into a discussion about jewelry fashion trends for moms while we were there because I’ve seen a few news stories lately about “push jewelery” as in a jewelery gift for a new mom. We certainly didn’t call it that when I was a jeweler!

We bought enough food that we were able to bring some home for tomorrow. Yum – Gyros and Spanokopita for dinner tomorrow too. Can’t wait. Do you like Greek food too? Do you go to local festivals in your area or home town?
