Starting to get back into a routine

October 9, 2008 by Tricia

Well … about a week ago I told you guys that I was going to change my whole routine -from how I sleep, to how I blog right down to getting some regular exercise.

So it’s only a week but I have made some progress. No major changes on the sleep front unfortunately, that’s still messed up, but I have gotten into a little better routine with my blogging and I pulled out the elliptical machine and started using it for 30 minutes each day. I do hope to build up to an hour or so of doing ellipticals each day or at least most days, but that will take some time.

Now if I can only get our dog Midnight to stop pretty much pulling me off my feet every time I take her outside we could start taking longer walks again. Earlier today she got excited when she saw a woman walking two dogs and at first she obeyed my command to sit and not bark, but I don’t know if one of the dogs made some kind of move when I wasn’t looking, but all of a sudden Midnight stood up and started running towards the other dogs with me dragging behind. The leash slide through my hand so fast that three of my fingers on my left hand still hurt. Boy was I mad at Midnight!

That’s what I’m dealing with on that front … but she’s pulling less and less each month so maybe walks with her can become part of my fitness routine again soon too. And of course, hopefully I start to sleep better again too.

Are you working on any goals to improve your health?

My PVR is getting full!

October 7, 2008 by Tricia

I think I’m going to get new television show burnout soon. If you watch TV you already know that most of our old favorite shows started coming back about two weeks ago, and most will be back by the end of the week. Plus there’s new shows that started last year that we enjoyed but didn’t get to see for very long before the writers strike started and they went off the air. Well those are back too, plus there’s brand new shows to check out.

I tell ya, my PVR is just about full! I’ve spent a good part of the afternoon watching previously taped shows so that I could make room for shows like House and NCIS and others that are on tonight! This wouldn’t be so much of a problem if all the shows that we liked were on a different times and not two shows in the same time slot. The only way to get around that is to tape them and watch them later right?

I’m sure a few of the new and returning shows will end up being canceled by the end of November or early December so that will make watching or finding the time to watch the taped shows a bit easier.

What really sucks is that I want to try out a downloadable audio books membership, but it will have to wait for a while, because there’s no way that I have any time to listen to audio books with this backlog of TV shows filling up my PVR.

I guess it would be better if I didn’t like so many TV shows, but that’s the way things are working out right now. Hmmm We rent our PVR from our cable company .. I wonder if they have a newer model that has a larger hard drive? I’ve got to remember to check that out.

Do you find this time of year difficult too. I mean, finding time to do the things you need to do around the house yet trying to make time to watch all of your favorite shows premieres and check out new TV shows too?

Trying to decide what to have for a late dinner

October 4, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I went to an afternoon concert today. No it wasn’t a concert in the park … it was in a legion hall. LOL Now that was different.

The bands were really good, but I felt sorry for one of the lead singers. You could tell that he’d had really severe acne as a kid and his cheeks were pock-marked as a result. I always feel bad for people who’s faces are scarred like that when there are so many good treatments available to treat severe acne these days.

Anyway … now we’re going to have a late dinner. I’m trying to decide whether I should cook something or if we should continue to treat ourselves and order something out? Maybe Chinese food? I’ve kind of had a craving for Asian food lately.

What would you do if it was already 9 in the evening? Make dinner or order out?

What DID I do yesterday?

October 2, 2008 by Tricia

On my other blog, Tricia’s Musings, I just wrote a post about my really bad day yesterday. I only slept for 2.5 hours yesterday so I spent the whole day in a complete daze.

Now I can’t even remember some of the things I did yesterday. Lack of sleep takes a terrible toll on your memory. I have things that I do each day for the many websites I run and I basically had to go back and check to see if I did some of the tasks yesterday because I simply couldn’t remember if I did them or not. I couldn’t even remember if I took all of the medications that I take each and every day either. Odd.

Have you ever been so tired that you couldn’t remember things you did a few hours before? I guess it’s kind of like drinking too much! Strange feeling.

Trying to stay up to date in the nursing field while on medical leave

October 2, 2008 by Tricia

Since I’m a nurse on extended medical leave I’ve been trying to keep up to date on health news, nursing techniques and so on so about a year ago I joined a few nursing groups and I get regular weekly or monthly newsletters.

The information I receive is usually quite helpful. It ranges from how to deal with grieving relatives and friends to new ways to treat chronic health problems like diabetes.

I came across one article today that talked about a new way to treat acne. It’s with acne pills. Now I knew that there were some prescription pills out there to treat acne, many in the form of antibiotics, but this is something different. They are antioxidant pills. It makes sense, but it was news to me.

Do you join internet based groups or sign up for newsletters related to your career so that you can stay up to date as well?

My Crohn’s is so bad that I don’t know if I’ll ever resume my nursing career, but just in case I do get healthy enough to go back to work I’d like to stay up to date as to what’s happening in my field.
