Absolutely freezing this past weekend!

January 25, 2011 by Tricia

It seems that we always have one day every weekend where we run around to different stores buying the things we need to get us through the week. I guess it’s a good thing that for the most part we manage to get the majority of our shopping done each week in one day instead of shopping several times throughout the week.

This past Saturday was our big shopping day and we sure picked the coldest day of the year to go out. I really mean that. I was -33 Celsius outside during the DAY! For my American visitors that’s -27.4 F. Bone chillingly freezing!

Our neighbors were “visiting” their house and must have been doing some kind of toxic renovations because they had their windows open most of the day. Can you believe they had their windows open when it was that cold outside? They either really had to do whatever they were doing renovation wise and couldn’t put it off until it was a little warmer outside and would make a little more sense (and be a little less costly) to have the windows open all day or else they really aren’t all that smart!

In one of the areas that my husband and I went to do some of our shopping there seemed to be payday advance loans stores on almost every corner. You know … like donut or coffee shops. LOL I don’t think I’ve ever seen a street or area that had so many cash advance or money lending places so close together. Not that I’ve noticed before anyway. Strange. Perhaps that area has a higher incidence of people that borrow money? I suppose that information could be discovered. It was strange though.

Even though it was such a cold day in Toronto on Saturday I’m glad that we went out and got everything we needed because as it turned out, we spent a good portion of Sunday fixing our leaking upstairs toilet. Yeah … I can’t say that my husband nor I had a very fun weekend … but everything is done now.

Extra hours for my husband

January 19, 2011 by Tricia

My husband lucked out this week. He’s getting a lot of extra hours at work. One of his co-workers was working on Monday and she threw her back out and I guess she hurt herself bad enough that she might not be back in all week. So my husband is working 10 to 12 hour days.

Of course he’s really tired. He just stumbled by me mumbling something about letting the dog outside for a minute and then he was going to bed. Maybe he should take some multiple vitamins to help give him some extra energy and keep him healthy.

His co-worker who hurt her back might even be off next week so he might get extra hours next week too. Good for us money wise, but my husband will have to find a way to get more sleep so he’s not so tired.

I think I need a new family doctor

January 18, 2011 by Tricia

I went to see my family doctor earlier today. As expected it wasn’t a very productive visit.

I’ve been extremely tired over the last two months and the last time I saw my doctor in December she thought that I probably had seasonal effective disorder and suggested that I get a therapy light. I’m still convinced that it’s my thyroid even though my blood test results are within the normal range.

Before I bought my therapy light I did a lot of research online. I didn’t know this, but I guess there’s also quite a few lights for home acne treatments too.

I guess I’ve been using the therapy light for a month now and I don’t think it’s helped very much. I do feel a little less tired than I did in December, but not by much. I told all this to my doctor but she didn’t have much to say. I don’t know why she doesn’t seem interested in trying to figure out what’s making me so extremely tired.

I think that I’m going to start looking for a new family doctor. I can’t keep seeing a doctor that’s not doing anything for me. Trouble is that my family doctor is also my pain doctor so I’m afraid that if I dismiss her as my family doctor I might loss her as my pain specialist too … that wouldn’t be good. I have a bit of a dilemma.

Full after a very late dinner

January 17, 2011 by Tricia

We had a late dinner tonight. We just finished about an hour ago and I’m still full.

The reason why we had such a late dinner was because my husband got called in to work this afternoon. Normally he doesn’t work on Mondays, but someone was sick so he was called in to work in their place and he ended up working into the evening so we didn’t end up having dinner until about 9:45 pm or so.

We had a big dinner too … We had some left over turkey, rice, peas, grilled peppers, and cauliflower. Oh and a small salad on the side. We didn’t have big portions, but it was a big enough dinner. If we ate that much every night we’d need pills to lose weight! LOL Well maybe.

Perhaps instead of just taking the dog outside the house for her last outing of the evening maybe we’ll go for a walk around the neighborhood. That might be a good idea anyway as we’re expecting freezing rain tomorrow so the dog probably won’t be getting any long walks tomorrow.

January sales driving me nuts

January 15, 2011 by Tricia

I keep getting emails and flyers from local companies about huge January sales. Usually I try to ignore these kinds of things, especially since we don’t have a lot of extra money to spend on things that we don’t really need, but as you probably know, the sales at this time of year are well, spectacular, so it’s hard to ignore some of the sales that I’m seeing!

I really want a flip camcorder so I keep drifting over to websites to check out prices on the one that I want … then for some reason I look at the video games like psp and xbox kinect. I don’t know why .. I mean, I already have a wii and I don’t use it as much as I should so why am I looking at other video games? LOL

Do sales attract you? By this I mean do they make you look even if you know you probably won’t buy anything?
