My dog is a nut!

December 13, 2009 by Tricia

My dog is a nut … I’m sure that any other Labrador Retriever owners out there feel the same about their precious pet.

I’m biased, but I think she’s really smart .. smart enough to purposely ignore us when we tell her something, yet completely understand if there’s a food treat involved. LOL Midnight even knows how to lie! When she was a puppy she’d fake pee, crouching down on the ground in a pee making position so that we’d think she went .. yet she didn’t realize she was on snow and that we’d see that there was nothing beneath her. I’m sure she just did that for a trip outside.

Last week, when I was upstairs having a shower our Lab came up for a visit. She’s only recently been permitted to come upstairs so it’s a big deal for her. I guess I didn’t close the bathroom door fully (hey it was just me and her in the house) so she pushed the door open and the next thing I knew there as a dog head pushing the shower curtains aside to see what I was up to in there.

After a moment or two of watching the “rain” come down on me, she decided to jump into the tub! Yeah, I had a dog in the shower with me. It was a little weird, but I didn’t mind all that much.

Since she was in the shower I thought about giving her a bath, after all, I was dressed for it! However, she stayed near the end of the bathtub, away from the shower water. Did I tell you that while she loves swimming and water in general, she doesn’t seem to like rain? So we nixed the doggy bath idea.

It took me a few minutes to get her out of the bath/shower once I was done. I think she’s a little nervous to jump over the side of the tub. Once she did jump out she slipped on the tile flooring a bit, since her feet were wet. Just that alone might be enough to discourage her from visiting me in the shower again as she got a little scared when she slipped and once she’s scared of something she avoids it. Luckily she hasn’t encountered much that’s scared her.

Do you have a silly dog? Has your dog ever jumped into the shower or bath with you? If so, what did you do?

I wish we had a dishwasher

December 13, 2009 by Tricia

OMG the dishes are piling up. I haven’t been feeling well all weekend (ok since Thursday really) and as a result the kitchen is a mess and dirty dishes are covering one side of the counter and filling up one of our double sinks.

The rest of the house isn’t too bad. My husband and I did a really big clean up on Monday, but for me, it’s been a downhill ride since then. LOL

One thing I hate is a messy kitchen and the sight of dirty dishes. I wish we had a dishwasher. Of course our kitchen is really tiny … I have no idea where we’d put one, but still, it would be nice to have one. I think we’d only have to run it once a week or so, but in the meantime the dirty dishes could be hidden away. Hey … isn’t that what dish washers are for?

Working out almost daily and it’s paying off

December 13, 2009 by Tricia

Well, I posted about trying to lose a few pounds last week and so far so good.

I started working out almost daily (sore muscles slowed me down, and Crohn’s slowed me down this weekend) and I think it’s starting to help.

Along with taking my dog on long brisk walks, I stated using my Wii again. I’ve been using Gold’s Cardio Workout and Wii Fit Plus. The shape boxing in the Cardio work out really gets me moving and I can feel my heart rate going up. Looks like I won’t even have to think about trying a weight loss supplement. Actually I probably wouldn’t anyway as I don’t think that would go well with my delicate digestive system (thanks to the Crohn’s disease) anyway.

Anyone else trying to lose a few pounds before Christmas or in my case my niece’s wedding at the end of the month? How’s it going?

Trying to lose a few pounds before the end of the month

December 6, 2009 by Tricia

Ahhh! My nieces wedding is coming up soon! It’s on the 30th of December – just 24 days from now!

I’m not ready!

I’ve been working out every day over the last week and a half, but it hasn’t helped much yet. I want to lose about 10 lb before the wedding. I need to lose weight fast so that I’ll look great by the time her wedding day arrives.

My meals are low calorie (low fat, low sugar) and I’ve been taking long walks with the dog each day. In addition to this I’ve been using Wii fit Plus, Gold’s Cardio workout and AE Sports Active on my Wii for at least an hour a day. All of which get my heart rate up and get me sweating.

I’m pretty sure that if I keep this up I’ll lose the 10 lb that I want to lose, but so far I really haven’t seen much in the way of results … well if you don’t count sore muscles! The work outs are definitely doing something to my body because my arms, ribs and thighs hurt!

What do you do when you need to lose 5 to 10 lb in a month?

We’re thinking of putting a pond in our small garden

November 26, 2009 by Tricia

I was just wondering if any of you have a pond in your backyard? If so – did you install it yourself?

My husband and I have a very nice backyard garden with raised garden beds made with stackable formed stones. It looks great. We even separated our garden into two areas – a patio entertaining area separated by an oval garden bed, and then the back area surrounded by the majority of all of our garden plants.

The only major garden feature that’s missing is a pond, and my husband has always wanted us to have a pond back there. So … I’m thinking about it.

The trouble is that we have a really small yard to begin with. it’s only something like 20 feet wide and 35 feet long and with three to four foot deep garden beds going around the edges of the yard there isn’t much space left over.

If we do put in a pond it will have to be a small one. I guess I’ll have a look at pond supplies and see what I can come up with. Perhaps a small premade plastic pond would work?

Any ideas? I know that making a pond isn’t all that hard, but getting one to fit into a small established garden … that might be hard!
