A character in the Jewelery field

June 4, 2011 by Tricia

I always see these commercials on TV with this guy Russel Oliver. He`s known in Toronto as the Gold Man or really in his latest commercials I`d say he`s the silver man. LOL

I used to be in the jewelery trade and I knew this man many years ago … not well, and I wouldn’t say that he had a great reputation with true jewelery because he`s a cash for gold type rather than a real jeweler himself … but his commercials sometimes make me laugh. They`re stupid and silly … but I find them funny at times. I think kind of knowing the guy helps too.

Have you ever known a character in your fiend of business that`s gone on to make silly television commercials for their business. It`s kind of strange!

How was your weekend

May 23, 2011 by Tricia

It’s the end of a long weekend here in Canada and all around neighborhood I can hear people letting off Fireworks for Victoria Day. It’s driving my dog nuts! Try telling an excited Lab that all those noises are normal. Uh huh.

On Saturday the weather was really nice so my husband and I ran around and got a few things done and did some work outside the house, however the weather wasn’t so nice on Sunday or today so we ended up being stuck indoors most of the time. We did try to get outside for a bit earlier today but it suddenly got windy and the roses that we were working near started whipping into us and injuring us. I guess we can’t win! LOL

There wasn’t even anything good on TV on the weekend. For some reason a couple of the channels that I like to watch during non-holidays love to run reruns of old shows over and over again – just one show – no variety for a whole day or even a whole weekend on a long weekend .. so if you’re stuck at home and there isn’t much on TV it can be bad. I think one of the shows had something about a Texas truck accident lawyer I sort of fell asleep at that point. Yep .. exciting long weekend for me – huh.

I guess we would have been out doing more interesting things but I feel down the stairs last week and really hurt myself. I bruised my lower back, my left buttock, my left leg and left arm and my neck and even my jaw hurt – after a week. So I’m not in very good shape. I think it will take me about another two weeks to get over that fall.

How was your weekend? Better than mine I hope!

If Canada has an oil well blowout it’s going to be very bad

December 10, 2010 by Tricia

This evening I’m taping a documentary on CBC about the Gulf Oil Spill. Apparently the documentary questions whether we here in Canada are about to have our own Offshore Accident off the coast of Newfoundland.

The Doc Zone documentary is called Blowout: Is Canada Next? and I’m sure we’re going to find it very interesting. I didn’t know this, but if there is an emergency on the Chevron (Canada’s deepest well off the coast of Newfoundland) it would take 11 days for ships to reach the spill. Now that’s scary isn’t it?

Here’s a quote from the Doc Zone page for the Blowout Documentary:

Just weeks after the Deepwater Horizon blowout in the Gulf, Chevron began drilling Canada’s deepest oil exploration well off the coast of Newfoundland. Located 430 kms from shore, the Chevron well is twice as deep as BP’s Deepwater Horizon well, six times further out to sea, and in much rougher seas. In the event of a blowout, it would take 11 days for emergency response ships to even reach the spill. An oil blowout off the coast of Newfoundland would decimate the world’s last remaining Atlantic cod fishery, along with several species of whales, seals, turtles, coral habitats and seabirds that feed in the basin. These rich and fertile seas are the backbone to Newfoundland’s tourism industry. An oil spill would create dead zones within the ocean and potentially devastate this economic mainstay that brings in over 1 billion tourist dollars annually.

The documentary is on CBC News world at 10 pm if anyone is interested in watching.

Just a lazy Friday night

November 19, 2010 by Tricia

I’m feeling lazy tonight. I’m watching TV with my husband and as you can probably tell if you read my last post I’m feeling a little lazy .. I don’t want to cook dinner.

I taped the movie The Runaways last night and we’re watching it now. It just got to the part where the band was in Japan and Dakota Fanning as Cherie came out in lingerie on the stage. It’s the beginning of the end for Cherie I think. Good movie so far.

I grew up with the music of the Runaways and Joan Jett so the movie is bring back some memories.

Survivor is getting interesting – sort of

November 17, 2010 by Tricia

Have you been watching Survivor this season?

I have and I’ve just been shaking my head at how all of the alliances change from one episode to the next.

I don’t know why, but this season – Survivor Nicaragua- is one where I really don’t have a favorite character. In fact, I don’t really like any of the people in this season’s Survivor.

Everyone is just back stabbing every one. I don’t know … I just don’t like it when people play the game that way. I keep waiting to see if one of the two individual immunity idols will get played – they’re kind of like cheap life insurance in survivor. I Know Brenda was hoping that Sash was going to give her his idol in tonight’s episode to save her – but of course he didn’t. I knew he wouldn’t.

So for those of you who are watching Survivor .. what do you think? Is the winner going to be another woman? It’s been a female winner the last several seasons.
