Wordless Wednesday
Hmmm, now that’s some tacky jewelry!
I used to be a jeweller and I’m sorry to say that I’m guilt of having made some tacky jewelry. Hey, it’s what my clients wanted. However I sure hope that I’d never make something like this! LOL

I’ve been complaining about our DLP TV making a loud humming noise for a long while now. Well, we finally called the company that we bought the TV from and checked how much longer our warranty would last (April 2009) and booked a service call.
Luckily it’s all covered on our warranty.
We did all that last week and the service company showed up about an hour ago to have a look at our TV. As we expected it’s the color wheel that’s making that constant loud humming noise whenever the TV is turned on.
Unfortunately when the guy showed up he looked at his paperwork and said “Wait, this isn’t an RCA?”. Yeah, our original TWO lemon DLP TV’s were RCA’s. One didn’t turn on at all, and the second one only worked for 11 days before it stopped working. We ended up having the second TV repaired at the stores insistence (on warranty of course) and they actually had to replace half the working parts to make it work. When it was finally returned after about a month it only worked for a day or two.
That’s when we insisted on getting a new TV and that’s how we ended up with the Samsung that we currently have in our home.
Now Chris is on the phone with the store telling them that the paperwork the service company has is for the wrong TV. They spent half an hour looking for the paperwork showing that our TV was changed over to an different brand.
It’s such a hassle every time we have to deal with the store, Bad Boy, and the service company. The store didn’t keep our paperwork in order. In fact we ended up with a store credit for over $700 when we changed from our lemon RCA DLP’s over to the Samsung DLP. In 2006 we purchased a new DLP light and charged it to our credit. At that time new lights for DLP TV’s were almost $300. So do the math, our credit should be $400 and something bucks right? Well they’re telling us our store credit is $167???
Seriously. Whoever is in charge of transferring all their bills of sale and other account data to their computer system really messed things up. We go through a major hassle every time we have to call them.
We need to get a new washer and dryer because the ones that came with our house when we bought it are over 30 years old! Talk about energy suckers! I was counting on using our in store credit (which should be gaining interest over the years, don’t you think?) to pay for a good portion of the cost of the dryer or washer, but if they insist that our credit is only $167 bucks well that isn’t going to happen.
Ok enough of my rant.

Well I think it’s time for us to buy a new TV. We purchased our DLP (Digital Light Processor) television back in 2004 when DLPs were fairly new to the market. In fact, the first TV we got was a lemon. It wouldn’t even turn on and the second one that we got to replace that (same brand) worked for a total of 11 days before it ended up in the repair shop with half it’s parts needing to be replaced!
Unfortunately the store we bought our TV from, at a very high price mind you! It was close to $5000, wouldn’t let us cancel the sale after our disastrous experience with two sets so we replaced the second DLP with another brand (Samsung).
The third DLP tv set was working fairly well up until last August or so when it started making loud humming noises. It’s progressively gotten louder and louder as the months have gone by. Our set is still covered by our protection plan so we’re going to have it repaired, however, I’ve got to say that I’m completely fed up with DLP TV’s and I just want to get a new, less expensive set.
As I’ve mentioned before we’ve slowly been renovating our home. We started on the very first day that we got the house in June of 2001 and we’re still working on it. Well, actually we took a long break and there’s still half finished projects! I’m sick of looking at our half finished living room dining room, so along with getting our TV fixed and or replacing it I think we’d better get to work and finish our outstanding renovation project!
Hopefully the weather will start to get a little nicer over the next month. I don’t like renovating when it’s cold out and you can’t open windows to air out the house. Once the weather’s nice enough to open the door or a few windows for a short while maybe we’ll get to work, get the project done and then I can also get a few new pieces of furniture for the room.
I’ve been dying to redecorate and arrange the furniture in the way that I think it will look best once the rooms are finished. Hey, maybe we’ll get a membership at directbuy. You can get furniture, electronics, home decor and I believe even items like tiles and flooring for manufacture direct prices.
Getting our reno project finished, buying a new TV and maybe some new home furnishings while saving money sounds ideal to me. I guess I’d better start saving my pennies so I can get what I want, huh?
