Interesting bike storage

April 23, 2008 by Tricia

novel bike storage

Live in an apartment? Don’t have any storage space or even a balcony? Take a cue from this savvy apartment renter and hook your bike outside the window. Heck you could even lower it to the ground to make it easier on yourself when you want to take a ride.

Brantford’s playing for the Allan Cup

April 19, 2008 by Tricia

My husbands all excited because he was channel surfing and discovered that his hometown hockey team is playing a game in Brantford that ‘s being televised on TSN. It looks like the Brantford Blasts are in the finals for the Allan Cup.

He’d talked to his dad earlier today and his dad is at the game, so we’re watching for him in the stands.

My father in law yells pretty loud so I’m sure we’ll hear him even if we don’t see him!

I can’t believe they’re advertising Rolex watches on the sideboards. In Brantford? Now that’s strange!

Anyone else watching the Allan Cup? Gretzky’s youngest brother is playing for Brantford. Have I mentioned that we know the family?

DLP color wheel finally replaced

April 19, 2008 by Tricia

I think I forgot to mention that we finally had our DLP TV repaired last week. Yeah!

The service man had come for a visit the week before but discovered that his paperwork had our old RCA DLP TV listed so we had to get the company that we’d purchased the TV from to update their info with the service company so that the repair could be covered under warranty.

The service man listened to the TV when it was running and stated that it was the color wheel making all that noise – as I had thought. So off he went to wait for the paperwork to be updated and in the meantime he ordered the part that we needed.

A week later he and this grumpy older TV repair man showed up with the new color wheel.

I say the older repair guy was grumpy because he complained about everything. Our TV is in too dusty a spot apparently and he complained that there wasn’t enough light for him to work in and so on. Grrr … just repair the TV and go!

I was almost afraid to ask any questions. I did though … you see we have a really bad cable connection here. The TV company is working to update their system but they haven’t really gotten around to this area yet.

Our Internet is high speed cable as well and sometimes that goes out too! The repair men suggested we look into using a CAT6 cable as it cuts down on noise interference or something to that effect. Actually now that I think over our conversation I don’t know whether he meant we should use a Cat6 in our home or that the cable company should be using those types of cables.

Anyway to make a long story short our TV is now fixed. When I turned it on after they’d pretty much taken the whole TV apart to take out the tiny, yet noisy, color wheel the TV was just about silent.

The TV was noisy before that we had to keep raising the volume higher and higher. Now we can watch most TV shows with the volume level 5 to 10 levels lower than we had been before the repair.

Snow’s melting fast!

April 4, 2008 by Tricia

I didn’t think I’d be able to say this so soon, but our snow is just about gone. Oh yes, we still have a snow that’s close to a foot deep in the shadier areas of our yard, but clear grassy areas far outweigh the snowy areas now!

I’ve even seen signs of life in the garden. A couple of my crocus’ are bloom, the chives are up and other plants are beginning to emerge. I’m sure when I clear dead foliage and leaves from the garden beds I’ll find a few more surprises.

Now, as for the photo above. I’m not sure if that was a joke photo taken in an area like this with a ton of snow, or if it snowed in an area where it really snows and someone was actually trying to find people gullible enough to buy a few snow balls. I thought it was kind of funny though.
