If it works for dogs it might work for men …

I think this cartoon might be on to something!

If one of those weird collar cones works to keep dogs from scratching wounds it might work on guys too! At least the ones that are always scratching their nether regions! Thankfully my husband isn’t too bad about that kind of thing …

We’re officially on Staycation!

July 26, 2009 by Tricia

My husband and I are vacation for the next two weeks. No we’re not going to some exotic local … uh huh … we’re just doing a staycation this year.

We simply can’t afford to go away for a week or two, let along even a weekend!

What we’re going to do is take advantage of the many things that are going on in Toronto. There’s Caribana – a two week long Caribbean festival ending in a huge parade this coming weekend. The Beaches Jazz fest that ended today, which we went to last night and I’m sure we’ll find a few other things going on for us to enjoy.

One thing I’d like to do while my husband is off work is go to his Aunt’s house where we are storing our trailer. One of the beds broke a couple of years ago (that’s how long since we’ve used the thing!) and we need to get it fixed. Hmmm I wonder if that rv extended warranty will cover the damage and repair? Hmmm I’ve got to check into that too!

Otherwise, I guess we’ll just be hanging out here in Toronto, enjoying the garden, having some barbecues – maybe inviting some friends over and of course attending some of the great events going on here in Toronto.

Are you or did you have a Staycation this summer or did you travel somewhere for your holiday?

This Summer feels more like Spring

July 4, 2009 by Tricia

Well I guess it’s summer here in Toronto … if you want to call it that. So far we’ve only had one week of “normal” temps. Otherwise it’s been cooler than normal. Last night it went down to 13 c (55 F)! That’s cold … that’s early spring temps!

It is supposed to warm up by next Thursday … but I hope that once it does get “summer” warm it stays that way. Weird weather!

Anyway … now that it’s supposedly nice out I’m getting outside more and taking the dog for long walks. I’ve been thinking about looking at the various types of ipods so that I can have some music while I walk.

Yeah yeah … I’m behind … don’t even have an iPod or any kind of portable music player. Sad really, isn’t it?

So for those of you who have an iPod already … which one would you recommend? I’m not really interested in one that plays video. If it happens to have that as an extra feature so be it, but I probably wouldn’t use it much. I’m purely interested in an ipod for the music. We also don’t have much spare money so an inexpensive ipod suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here’s hoping for a warmer summer around here soon! BTW is it cooler than normal in your area too?

Now that summer is here I’m not using my Wii as much

July 2, 2009 by Tricia

In January I decided to buy a Wii console and Wii Fit. I’d heard that it was a good way to get in shape and I thought the idea of playing games that helped you be active rather than just sitting like a lump on the couch was a great idea.

So far I’m enjoying the Wii. I don’t use it as much as I’d hoped too, especially now that summer has arrived and I’m doing things outdoors, but in the winter it came in handy. Believe me,, if you live in an area that turns cold for months at a time and has a lot of snow a game that helps you stay active indoors is a great idea.

Now I’m starting to wonder about playstation 3. I wrote a post on my main blog, Tricia’s Musings, asking if anyone had both systems and what they thought of each and the feedback indicates that if you want to be active go with the Wii, but if you want action games and great graphics go with Playstation.

The reason I asked in the first place was because I’ve seen some games advertised on TV lately that sound interesting, but they are Playstation games …. so now I’m thinking about getting Playstation 3. Maybe … when I have some extra money that is. Perhaps I’ll find a friend with Playstation 3 and visit them and try it out first to make sure that I really do like it.

Do any of you have Playstation 3? Do you enjoy it? What are you favorite games?

My Husband is NOT a Guinness World Record holder – unfortunately

June 6, 2009 by Tricia

I was hoping that I’d be able to announce that I’m married to a Guinness World Record holder this evening, but I’m afraid that I can only say that my husband attempted to break a Guinness World Record and unfortunately failed because enough people didn’t show up. Shame.

Sp what am I talking about? Well, earlier today a large group of guitarists gathered at Toronto’s Dundas Square in attempt to break the record for the largest guitar ensemble. They needed 1803 guitarists to break the 2007 German record of 1802 guitarists playing Smoke on the Water, but they were apparently short by about 123 people.

My husband was disappointed when he came home, but he still said he had fun playing Neil Young’s Heartless and meeting several other guitarists. Oh well, maybe they’ll try to break the record again next year. He was so excited too … he even wrote a post about the attempt to break the world record on his guitar blog.

I was going to go to watch the event, but I wasn’t feeling all that well. Remember I have Crohn’s and it’s acting up lately. To tell you the truth I kind of feel like I’ve taken a colon cleanser today. That’s what life with Crohn’s is like.

If Chris had only been going downtown for an hour or so it wouldn’t have been that bad, but registration was supposed to start at 2 p.m. and he heard on the radio at noon that people were already starting to gather so he left at about 12:30 pm. All the guitarists didn’t start playing the song Heartless until 6 p.m. so that would have been a lot of standing around for me. Still … I would have liked to have gone as I’m sure I would have taken some cool pictures of all those guitarists.
