How Much Can Your Old Movie Posters Worth?

November 14, 2012 by Trish

Many collectors of movie posters are wondering what the posters are worth. Movie posters can provide some extra money for those who want to liquidate. Vintage photographs can actually be worth a lot if they are kept in good condition. Obtaining pricing for posters can be difficult, but there are a few criteria that every vintage photo must meet. Here are a few tips:

1. Keep the Poster in Good Condition

For the highest value, the poster should be in incredible condition. There should be no scratches, wrinkles, fading and scrapes. Every old movie poster should be placed in a poster frame. The poster frames should not allow UV-rays to permeate the glass. The frame should also not break if the picture falls on the ground.

2. Know the Demand

The value of your poster will depend on the demand. If the poster is in high demand, good condition and is one of a few on the market, the poster’s value will rise. If no demand exists, the poster’s value will be low. The value will also be low if there is demand and plenty of supply. You must have a poster that other people do not have and everyone wants. All of your posters should be kept in good condition. You never know when the demand will increase.

3. Volume

Unfortunately for collectors, the value of vintage movie posters rises and falls like the ebb and flow of the ocean. If there are only five to 10 copies of a movie poster, the demand for the poster will be greater than if there were 10,000 copies of a poster. When you purchase a poster, know the volume of the poster to determine the approximate value. For instance, a low volume poster may be worth $500, and a high volume poster may be worth $100. The value is highly dependent upon the total volume in circulation.

4. Era

Typically, the value of an older poster will be worth more than a newer poster. Many posters can be worth more if the posters are kept in dimly lit rooms. Some well-preserved older posters are worth more than some antiques. Posters that come from the first runs are likely to be worth more than a poster that was created at a later time period. Cult movie posters are often worth more also.

Find Out How Much Your Old Posters are Worth

Find out how much your old movie posters are worth. When you are ready to sell, you will know what the posters are worth. Talking to vintage sellers will help you determine how much your old posters are worth. It is best to be prepared before you are ready to sell. This will help you get the best price for your movie posters. If you follow these tips, you will be better prepared to sell for a more substantial sum.

Murder Mysteries

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

Do you ever watch those murder mystery shows on TV where they try to figure out what happened to someone who was murdered?

I don’t mean a TV show, I mean more like a true crime show or a documentary or in this case it’s an episode of Dateline that I’m watching. It’s about a girl that went missing in Las Vegas and then a week later her body was found in a ravine.

I haven’t got to the end of the story but my guess is that the ex fiances girlfriend is the one responsible for the murder. Plus it seems she’s pregnant – but if I were the guy I’d have a paternity test because she’s acting so suspcious I’d even doubt the truth about that!

I guess I like murder mysteries, I even read novels that are murder mysteries or horror stories. Of course those aren’t true stories, they’re usually pure fiction. Do you enjoy a good thriller story too? Certainly not living through one I’m sure!

Trying to do two things at once

June 13, 2011 by Tricia

I’m sitting here watching TV and trying to get some work done on the computer at the same time. Unfortunately … I’m not getting much work done on the computer because I’m watching the movie Burlesque.

I’m enjoying the movie a lot more than I thought I would. I normally don’t like musicals all that much, but this one has me captivated for some reason. I like the guy playing Jack .. although it probably wouldn’t have hurt if he’d gone looking for testosterone supplements that worked to build up his muscles a bit more. Yum.

Ok back to the movie .. and more computer work .. I’ll get it all done eventually!

Downtown Toronto is changing

November 25, 2008 by Tricia

You might remember that last week I told you one of our friends was going to be having open heart surgery at a hospital here in Toronto. Well, she had the operation on Friday and she’s still in the hospital and recovering well.

We spent the better part of the weekend going back and forth to the hospital visiting our friend and our husband. Needless to say i didn’t manage to get much done this weekend! She was seen by physio today and was finally allowed to get up and walk around so if she continues to progress well she’ll be out of the hospital by the end of the week. Fast isn’t it?

The hospital is downtown … actually the hospital she’s in (Toronto General) is surrounded by a number of other hospitals. I hadn’t actually been downtown for some time and I was amazed to see that the area around Dundas and Yonge had changed quite a bit. For years they’ve been building a new multi-movie theater on the corner of Yonge and Dundas and now they’ve removed all the boards that had been blocking it off – for years and I think it’s open.

Now that corner that had been a huge construction site competes with the huge shopping center and the other stores on each corner. It’s a mass of digital signage in that area!

I took that photo two years ago, but as you can see there were lots of digital signs back then .. and now that area on the right of the picture is a big multi-movie theater with, oddly enough, a section at the top that is used by the neighboring Ryerson University (I believe they are part owners of the complex).

In the late 80’s and early 90’s that whole area felt like home to me. I was a jewelery – part of the jewelry trade, and that area if full of trade jewelers. I had my business in that area and I lived and breathed the downtown lifestyle. I still live close to the downtown core, but in a much more family friendly area.

Have you noticed how parts of your city has changed over the years? Amazing at times isn’t it?

We had a little outdoor get together on Saturday

August 25, 2008 by Tricia

Saturday was such a beautiful day here in Toronto that I brought my laptop outside in the late afternoon so that I could enjoy the day, the garden and get some work done while I was at it. Needless to say I didn’t get much work done!

We’d been expecting a friend to come over for the weekend. He was going to arrive on Friday night and spend the whole weekend, but his parents got word that they could move into their retirement home so he pushed back his visit by a day so he could help them move. Unfortunately the moving went into overtime and he wasn’t able to make it to our house for the visit.

Since Chris is on holidays this week he really wanted to do something on Saturday so he ended up inviting his cousin and our 15 year old God son over for dinner.

That of course is why I didn’t get any work done! My god son loves movies and he talked my ear off for oh … 6 hours about all his favorite movies, actors, scenes from movies and even brought over part of his movie collection so that he could show us movie trailers!

It was all a little too much movie talk for me, but I did come up with an idea for him. I suggested that he start a blog and write movie reviews. He basically memories all the lines and scenes in movies (oh did I mention he’s legally blind?) so he’d be a great reviewer … or at least I think so after hearing how he describes movies all these years.

In the rare non-movie discussion that I got to participate in I learned of a new health drink by Orovo that I might try. It might help with my Crohns, certainly it probably won’t hurt to try it.

We ended up having dinner outdoors. Chris, his cousin and I had steak and our God son had hamburgers. We all had fresh corn on the cob as well (not great for my Crohn’s but I love it). It was a great dinner.

Oh … I also had a couple of beers that night. I don’t drink much in part because of all the medications I’m on and also because it just hits me too hard. So by the time our guests left around Midnight I was feeling tipsy and tired! Guess I’m a cheap date!

Hows the weather in your area? We have a cool and rainy summer, but the end of last week and most of the weekend was fairly nice (we’re back to too cool again) so that’s why I had to take advantage of Saturday being such a nice day. Who knows when it might be nice enough to sit outside into the night entertaining guests.
