Too many eyeballs

August 11, 2007 by Tricia

I’m feeling shy.

I was just checking the stats for my main blog Tricia’s Musings and I saw all these hits coming from one particular blogspot blog. It turns out that it’s a popular blog written by Ann Althouse. The hits were coming from her post titled “Gender difference in the blogosphere… blah blah blah…”. I’m purposely not linking to the site or post because as I said I’m feeling shy.

The post is a rant about Ellen Goodman, a political journalist and her statement that it’s mainly men making up the political blogesphere.

In the comment section one person brought up the fact that there are a couple of highly trafficked and highly watched female bloggers at the top of the Truth Laid Bear’s ecosystem. One of them is me. Well that comment brought a flood of visitors to my site!

I’ve been bouncing around on the list from 7 to 9th place for the majority of this year and when this comment was written I’d fallen to 10th place. I’m currently at 12th place and no longer a “higher being”. :

This is one of the laziest columns I’ve read in a long time. Goodman takes the trouble to cite only one female political blog, the “funny and bracing Feministing,” steadfastly refuses to recognize that two of the most widely-read blogs of all, according to the TTLB Ecosystem, are authored by women: Michelle Malkin (number 2 overall), and Tricia of Tricia’s Musings (#10). Tricia’s apparently apolitical; I’d never heard of her before today. But two of the top three blogs are by women ….

Ok, I knew it was a pretty big thing to be that high on the list at Truth Laid Bear. I mean this is the site that the president of the USA’s people check to find out what’s happening on the net and who’s talking about what. What I didn’t realize was that it’s so special that I’m female and near the top of that list.

Anyway, my main site has a lot of eyeballs on it right now. It has ever since I got so high up in the TTLB, but it has even more in the last day or two and I’m feeling shy as to what I post.

It figures that my site gets a bunch of new people watching it just after I did a run of “drivel” posts that don’t truly reflect what my site is about or my personality.

I know I really shouldn’t let something like this affect the way I write, but ask my husband, I can’t stand people watching me and that’s what this feels like right now. LOL

If I was really smart I’d write up a very controversial post and generate even more action out of all the extra traffic, but as the comment that I quoted says “I’m apolitical” – at least on my blog I am.

And … if I’ve been so high up in the TTLB system for the majority of the year why is my main blog still only a PR5? Most of my company on that list is PR6 and PR7 blogs! I need more links to my main site. 😉

My husband thinks I’m too sick for house guests

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

My brother called his brother this morning to tell him to shorten his visit at our house.

He did this because I had a terrible night. Obviously I was productive and got a lot of posting done on my sites, but I was in pain the whole time. When I finally tried to go to bed I was still in too much pain to sleep and was in fact still awake when my husband left for work at 9:30 this morning.

I slept, but got up at 2 pm so that’s not too much sleep. I’m sure that contributes to my continuous pain cycle. I think I need to actually be knocked out for several days in a row to reset my whole body.

Anyway, my husband called his brother to tell him how awful I’ve been feeling and to suggest that his visit at our house not be too long.

I feel terrible about that. I didn’t want him to tell his brother he can’t stay here long. They don’t get to see each other all that often and who am I to stop them.

As far as I’m concerned the three of them – Chris’ brother and his two teenage kids – can come and visit. If I’m not feeling well then I just won’t participate in whatever they are doing. I know my niece wanted me to go out with her on a big shopping spree, but I never really thought that would happen and now that I’m still feeling so horrible it won’t be happening, but there’s no reason to cancel or shorten their visit.

It looks like I’ll have to call Chris’ brother myself to let him know that it’s ok to visit.

I’ve got to get myself into a boat!

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

I’m still trying to find a way to go boating this year. We’ve been invited to a friends house tomorrow night and they live out in the middle of no where … I think on a lake. If I’m lucky maybe I’ll find myself in a canoe tomorrow evening or Saturday morning.

I just adore canoing and I’m so upset that I haven’t gone for a few years. I swear I was born in a canoe. There’s photos of me in canoes and boats when I was so young that I have no memory of it. That’s why I say I must have been born in a canoe because there’s certainly photographic evidence that I’ve been enjoying them most of my life!

Well if I don’t get to go boating this weekend I know that on September first I’ll be on a boat. A cruise boat! My brother made reservations for our whole family to go on a Toronto dinner boat cruise on September first. That should be fun. It’s not a canoe but it’ll be fun. Dinner, drinks, getting together with my family – and a boat. Yeahhh.

Rick Wakeman concert

August 10, 2007 by Tricia

We’ve just discovered that there’s some really good concerts going on this summer at the Danforth Music Hall. Chris has been trying to buy concert tickets for the Rick Wakeman concert on August 19th.

What you don’t know who Rick Wakeman is? Have you heard of the band YES? Oh YES you have … I’m sure you have. The tickets are about $70. Kind of expensive but this might be Chris’ only time to see him in concert. I guess if he’s going to buy the tickets he’ll have to do it soon.

Funny thing. Mandy Moore – yes the actress, has a concert at the Danforth Music Hall on September 21st. Interesting.

Taste of the Danforth

August 9, 2007 by Tricia

Did you know that this is the weekend that the Taste of the Danforth is on in Toronto? It runs from Friday evening until Sunday at 6 pm.

Part of the Danforth is closed off and all the stores and restaurants have sales and sell food outside of their premises. Oh it’s great! There’s also rides for the kids and beer tents for the adults.

I love just walking the Danforth during this festival. Stopping at one restaurant for a shisk kebab paying on $1 for it, then stopping at another place for a barbecued corn on the cob, another for a small bowl of chilli and finally near Broadview there’s a place that makes home made ice cream. I always get a waffle cone there. It’s the only time of year that I tend to eat ice cream let alone in a waffle cone. Yummy.

The walk through the crowded 10 or 12 blocks of the Danforth takes an hour or two one way between the crowded streets and stopping at the various stores and restaurant stands.

I’m happy that we live close too. It’s only about a 10 minute walk to the Danforth so we don’t have to deal with parking. I think last year close to 2 million people attended the Taste of the Danforth!

I’ll take pictures if I go! We’ve got guests this weekend and they stopped us from going last year. I’m determined that we’ll go this year.
