We had a great time on our dinner boat cruise

September 5, 2007 by Tricia

I took this photo while on our dinner boat cruise on Saturday evening. We were on a boat cruising around on Lake Ontario just outside of Toronto. I went up on deck about a half hour before sunset and stayed there until the sun was almost down snapping approximately 200 photos of the lovely scenery as the boat slowly moved across the lake.

What a beautiful evening we had. I’d highly recommend the Toronto Dinner boat cruises if your visiting the city or even if you live in the area and want to impress your date. The dinner was served as a buffet and it was delicious.

Oh, we had a couple sitting at the table beside us who were celebrating their five year wedding anniversary. They were dressed in the same clothes they wore to their wedding. She wore a simple white wedding gown and he wore a tuxedo. Everyone thought that they’d just been married, but it was their anniversary. They must be a very romantic couple.

Edinburgh Job Listings at GumTree

September 5, 2007 by Tricia

Do you live in Scotland? Particularly in the Edinburgh area? If you do, did you know that gumtree.com has quite a variety of edinburgh jobs on their site?

Looking at the edinburgh jobs directory I see listings for professional level jobs such as health care, accounting, computer/ IT to legal/ paralegal professions to sales, bar jobs and handyman openings.

I know if I lived in Edinburgh and I was looking for employment I’d be happy to find a site where I could easily look for jobs in edinburgh each and every day. It seems to be quite a well thought out site and it’s free to use.

If you are searching for a job you might also be interested in subscribing to the gumtree.com website. You can select which types of jobs you are interested in receiving listings for and you’ll then receive an email each day listing any available jobs in your field.

If you are a business owner or merchant and you have job openings you can list your job offers on the site absolutely free as well.

Visit Gumtree.com today to check the job listings.

Storms, power outages and computers! Oh My!

August 30, 2007 by Tricia

It looks like we’re going to have a good storm here!

Yesterday when I got up I was surprised to find that it was already 32 Celsius outside and the humidity was making it feel like it was 40 celcius! That’s darn hot! I have a desktop weather network widget on my computer and all day it was flashing warnings that we were expecting a severe storm. That always seems to happen when it gets to be outrageously hot outside.

Well of course it never rained during the day!

Now it’s four a.m. and I can see lightening all round and I hear thunder off in the distance. So I guess we’re getting our storm. We certainly need the rain.

I hate storms though. for some reason the power goes out about half the time whenever the power goes out. I always worry about my nice TV set, it’s a Samsung DLP HDTV and I’d hate for a power surge to cause a problem. Yes we do have a power surge protector but still I worry.

You see, back when we had that big blackout in 2003 that affected something like 50 million people across Ontario and the North Eastern United States we must have had a power surge. It either happened when the power went out or when the power came back on.

All but my desktop computer were ok. You see the power surge did something to the computers power supply and the computer just wouldn’t work. We had to look up power supply repair companies. In the end we just bought a new power supply, but we did have a bit of trouble finding the right power supply for our computer. What a pain!

So you can see why I worry about whatever electrical equiptment I’m using when a storm crops up can’t you?

Trying to touch the sky

My rose, Breath of Life, is growing so well this year. It’s put out more new growth than in any of the previous years that I’ve been growing it.

This one rose appears to be stretching as far as it can to reach the sky. It must be about 7 feet tall.

Don’t you love it when the plants you grow do well? Whether it’s plants in your garden, vegetables or even house plants. When they do what they’re supposed to do it gives you a sense of accomplishment, doesn’t it?

A little TLC for our friend

August 30, 2007 by Tricia

On Monday one of our friends came over for a visit. He’d just broken up with his girlfriend and he was feeling down so we invited him over for dinner.

Poor Oliver. He’s been really stressed out lately. He works at the hospital with us and he’s been there longer than we have. Look at me, I’m already so sick that I can’t even work, and my husbands had health problems too. I think the hospital makes people sick.

In Olivers case it’s the stress. He had to take some time off due to stress, but he hopes to return next week.

I’m still not sure why he and his girlfriend broke up as he never did say. I think he was just happy to get together with some friends and spend some time talking and eating a very good meal if I do say so myself. Check out my main blog Tricia’s Musings if you want to see what we ate. The post is called – Disgusting! But it all turned out ok. Now if that title doesn’t get you to visit my other blog nothing will. LOL

Our friend was like a different person when he was ready to leave. He was kind of stressed and super alert when he arrived around four pm, but when he was leaving at midnight he was very relaxed. I really do think that his visit to our home helped him.

We drove him home since he only lives a few blocks away. Once we were there he invited us in for a drink so we went up to his apartment for a few minutes. I just love how he’s decorated his home. He has a studio RTA furniture style going on. Simple open concept design and most of his furnishings – well entertainment units etc are made of steel so it has a cool modern look. For a guy he’s got taste!

Now that I’m talking about our friend I’ve just thought that maybe we should give him a call later today and see how he’s been doing this week. He’s such a nice guy that I hate to think of him sitting around by himself feeling down in his home.
