Working on new sites

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

I haven’t been feeling very well over the last few days, but as I’ve felt up to it I’ve been trying to work on some of my new sites.

One of my new sites is a home and garden related blog. I’ve already got a gardening blog where I try to mostly write about garden related topics but I’ve found over the last year that more and more home decor and home reno posts have made their way there so that’s why I created a new blog. The new blog will likely have more home than garden topics.

Another new site that I’m working on is shopping related. There I’ll talk about the latest fashion and make up styles, plus I’ll do posts about home decor, furnishings, appliances and give tips on how to get things done in and around the home so much easier.

I’m sure there’ll be lots of posts of interest between the two blogs and I hope that you’ll come to visit them when I’m ready to reveal their urls. No, don’t worry – the posts won’t be just wrinkle cream reviews although I expect when I talk about cosmetics I will discuss some skin creams. There should be quite a variety of topics and I’m sure that you’ll like the sites.

New neighbors soon!

March 4, 2008 by Tricia

Well our next door neighbors finally sold their house! I have no idea what the final offer was, but I suspect it was several thousand lower than what they’d originally asked. Looks like we’ll have new neighbors moving in in early April.

Chris thinks he saw our new neighbors to be when they were looking at the house. It’s a young couple. Hopefully a friendly and fairly quite people. By quiet I don’t mean I’m wishing they are excessively quiet … just no noisy Karaoke parties like our current neighbors please!

Sometime this year we’ll have new neighbors on the other side of the house too. My elderly neighbor Sofie – the one I call my stalker – had a mild stroke two weeks ago and she’s in the hospital. Her family had finally talked her into moving in with them so I guess the house will go up for sale sometime soon.

Her oldest son has been busy working in the basement over the last week or so. I’m not sure what he’s doing down there but it sure is noisy! Maybe he’s digging the basement foundation out to make the floor to ceiling height better. As I’ve probably mentioned a few times our basement was made for very short people. I’ve got to walk around ours hunched over and I’m sure all our neighbors basements are like that too unless they’ve done some work to increase the height.

So I guess we’ll be seeing moving vans around here soon. I think the new couple moving in is from New York so maybe we’ll see some New York movers vans.

It’s kind of exciting getting new neighbors. I just hope they’re good people.

Muscles don’t fail me now

February 29, 2008 by Tricia

Well it’s the end of the month and it’s snowing yet again. I think this is the fifth or sixth big snow storm we’ve had this month here in Toronto. It’s also set a record for the amount of snow during this month too!

I believe I heard the weather man say that we’d get about a foot of snow in just a few hours this afternoon. I believe it. It’s snowing quite heavily right now.

I guess I’ll be getting some exercise shoveling all that snow in a while. Oh boy! Muscles don’t fail me now!

All kinds of Tulips

I think for many people, when they think of spring flowers they think of tulips. Am I right?

I grow several different types of tulips. There are fringed ones, lily tipped, long stem, short stemmed or dwarf tulips, regular garden variety tulips … I’m sure there’s another type or two that I grow.

Did you know that some tulips bloom in early spring, others in mid spring and that there are also late spring varieties? I grow some of each so that my garden is filled with tulips for the majority of the spring season.

I believe the white tulip that I included above is a lily tipped tulip. Some of it’s outer petals are longer than the rest and they arch up above the flower elegantly.

Do you grow tulips in your garden? Do you sometimes buy bulbs that have been forced so that you can have tulip or other spring bulbs blooming inside your house in late winter?

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information. GTS participants remember to check in at As the Garden Grows each week so that we’ll know you made a new post!

On the boardwalk

This weeks theme is Wooden

I took this photo of the Boardwalk at the beach in Toronto last August. It was an overcast August day. Well, if I remember correctly it was more than overcast. It rained most of the day. Still we had relatives in town and they wanted to meet some of our other friends at the Beach Club so off we went.

We ended up sitting outside on the patio drinking beer as the rain fell upon us. We were under umbrellas but as you know when it rains out the water drips off the edges of the umbrella and I ended up sitting in one of the drippy areas! It was still a fun day.

So this is Toronto’s boardwalk. It’s wooden. I’m certain with our weather they must have to replace several of the boards each year. It must cost the city quite a bit of money but it’s such a lovely area and so well loved by city residents and tourists alike that I’m sure we’ll have the boardwalk for a long time to come.

I’m not sure how long the boardwalk is, but it’s got to be at least 3 miles long if not more.

Probably from Spring onward, once the weather gets nice, we’ll be talking our puppy down to the beach and the boardwalk every weekend. I’m sure she’ll love to swim in the water and walk along the beach.
