Seaweed shampoo – yep it’s real

December 4, 2011 by Tricia

I was visiting my hairdresser recently – getting my hair cut and having a visit with her and we got talking about the type of products she uses in her salon.

You see, I started seeing my hairstylist about a year ago and from the very first visit I realized her salon was quite different from most of the other salons that I’ve been to in the past. You see she uses all natural products. Her shampoos and conditioners have herbs and essential oils in them and prior to doing anything to me she always gives me a scalp massage with a soothing oil such as a lavender oil. It’s really quite an experience. I actually like going there, it’s so relaxing.

On my latest visit we got talking about Seaweed shampoos. You see I occasionally suffer from psoriasis and apparently this kind of shampoo can help so she told me to go to seaweedbathco.com for seaweed shampoo so I did and I was surprised at the variety of products and I suppose – flavors? there. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be sold online, but the next time I do a little over the border shopping I’m going to look for it.

Do you ever discover new interesting products at your hair stylist?

Trying to find something to do with my time

November 24, 2011 by Tricia

Now that the weather is getting cooler I find that I’m indoors more and I’m starting to get quite bored. It doesn’t help that my husband has been working quite a bit of extra hours lately as well which has left me home on my own. I need something to keep me busy!

I’m thinking of joining a club or two. Something to get me out once or twice a week, maybe meeting new people, keep me busy. Obviously I love gardening so joining a gardening club would be good. Of course they tend to slow down in the winter time. So … perhaps a photography club or if not a club maybe I’ll try taking a photography course.

Any suggestions?

On a slightly related note I came across a really cool site. They make personalized coins. Why I say it’s related is because if I were to join some kind of club it would be cool to have custom made coins made for the club.

I wonder how my brothers business project is going?

November 6, 2011 by Tricia

I meant to call my brother in Vancouver this weekend. I’ve been thinking about him lately and I’ve been wondering how he’s been doing.

You see, he’s been very busy the last few months getting a business started. Actually it’s a mine. He’s a geologist and the mine he’s trying to get up and running is a project he’s been working on for something like 15 years. He’s spent years talking with government officials in Canada and the US, natives because the mine is on native land, and doing environmental studies to make sure that the mine doesn’t do any environmental damage – in fact since he’s starting up an old closed down mine he had to clean up the old mine first.

He also had to get a lot of funding for the project. He’s spent years getting millions and millions of dollars in investment money for the project with everything from business funding to private investors. Now that the project is just about to open I’m sure my brother is quite proud and likely excited to see it get started.

So … I’d better make that phone call! It’s too late tonight, but maybe tomorrow evening. Of course with my luck he won’t be home – he’ll be on site.

We’re having a halloween party

October 29, 2011 by Tricia

It’s almost Halloween! You’d never know it on my street. Almost no one decorates their home for Halloween in my section of my street. It’s so strange.

At first, when we first moved into the area ten years ago, I thought it was because most of our immediate neighbors were elderly and they just didn’t want the bother of Halloween, but now a lot of the older neighbors have moved and younger ones have moved in and it’s still the same – no decorations for Halloween or sometimes even Christmas. As I said it’s odd.

I think we’re still going to decorate this year. Either way, I know for sure that we’re having a few friends over and we’re going to have our own Halloween party. I’ve been getting some ideas from Personal Creations at their facebook page and tomorrow I’ll be making a few recipes that I found online for some Halloween treats – for the party – not kids.

It’s been a while since I’ve had a party on Halloween. We get a lot of kids coming to the door around here so it will be interesting seeing all the kids and having a party going on at the same time. I’m sure our dog will be barking the whole time too.

What are you doing for Halloween?

Autumn maintenance in the garden

October 25, 2011 by Tricia

My husband and I have spent part of the last two weekends working in our front and backyard gardens preparing them for the long winter ahead. Fall is here and it’s getting cooler every day. I hate to say it, but I suppose it won’t be all that long before we have our first snow – maybe a month if we’re lucky. Less if we’re not.

We’ve been busy putting away everything from our patio furniture to solar lights and our garden ornaments. I’ve also been tidying up the garden beds, clearing away the dead plants, cutting off dead plant branches and trimming back some of the over growth on some of the really big plants.

One of the things that I must do as part of my garden maintenance is to take care of my gardening tools. I usually clean my pruners and other tools and then oil my cutting tools. I like to keep them in good shape, especially going into the winter when they’re going to be sitting for a while unused.

Do you garden? If you do, do you spend time each Autumn tidying up your garden preparing it for winter just as I’ve been doing these last two weeks?
