It seems like everyone is trying to sell their home in our area

September 30, 2008 by Tricia

Over the last few months it seems like 30% to 50% of our neighbors have thought about selling their homes. I’m amazed at all of the “for sale” signs that I see as I walk through the neighborhood with our dog.

The house immediately beside me and the one on the corner (two houses down) are still up for sale. Both have been up for sale for about a month. The housing market here in Toronto has apparently slowed down a bit … not drastically, but there’s been a few articles recently that say it’s slowing down. Hopefully my neighbors homes sell soon. I’m curious as to who our new neighbors will end up being. Hopefully we’ll get along ok!

If the other houses that I see up for sale on neighboring streets are sold soon they’ll be a convoy of moving trucks roaming the neighborhood soon! LOL .. like that will happen.

Are there any homes for sale close to your house? Are they selling slower than they normally do?

I seriously thought about getting a treadmill today

September 27, 2008 by Tricia

Chris and I were out earlier today doing our regular weekend shopping and while we were in a department store to get Chris a new pair of pants for work, I wandered around until I came across a sale on exercise equiptment.

Good thing our money’s tight right now or else I would have tried talking Chris into letting me buy one of the treadmills that were on sale. Yeah, I know … we have an elliptical machine and I’ve been using it again in the last few weeks, but a treadmill would be a good piece of exercise equiptment to have too. Chris would like it better than the elliptical, I’m sure.

Heck, I’ve even heard of people training their dogs to use the treadmill. That would certainly come in handy in the winter on a day when there was a big snow storm … ’cause I don’t take the dog for long walks through streets and sidewalks covered in un-shoveled snow … it’s just too hard to walk in! Midnight and I could both get a work out on the treadmill on snow days. LOL

Do you have any fitness equiptment in your home? Do you use it or has it become a place to hang your laundry?

Our name must be on a telemarketing list, grrr

September 27, 2008 by Tricia

I don’t know what it is lately, but in the past few weeks we keep getting calls, like 10 a day, from marketing companies.

These companies are asking us to participate in surveys, offering us free products -in the form of “You just won a …”, or they are from auto insurance comparison companies and so on.

Our name must have been added to some list. We do have our name on a National “Do not call” list, but I suspect some of these calls are coming from other Countries- like the US … and that’s how they are skirting our “do not call” request.

How many calls a day or week do you get from marketers?

Roses and Rosehips

Several of my roses are either blooming again or are starting to bud in preparation for perhaps the last blooms of the season.

Many of my roses never seems to get the message that the weather is cooling and winter is coming so they continue to bloom right into November until the first snow falls.

There are some that bloom around this time of year and then set rosehips. I love the look of Rosehips. They remind me of small crabapples. I’ll have to take some photos of them when they start to form on my roses this year.

Roses like The Fairy fall into the bloom until covered in snow category!

Perhaps this year when it does start to cool down and we start to get frost or perhaps a short lived snow fall I’ll try to remember to bring my camera out and take photos of the frost or snow covered frozen roses. They are quite pretty when they are either covered in frost or dusted with snow.

I know I shouldn’t be talking about winter yet. There’s still time before it arrives. I guess it’s just because it’s been cooling down so much earlier this year that thoughts of winter are upon me. Maybe it’s the huge rainstorm we’re expecting today too … remnants of hurricane Ike … Yikes! Parts of this city are going to get flooded! Hopefully not this area though.

Win a trip for four to Atlanta Georgia

September 10, 2008 by Tricia

How would you like to win a trip for four to Atlanta Georgia? If you are a Canadian resident you are eligible to enter to Win a trip with iCoke.ca . The contest is being held to celebrate the inventor of Coca-Cola – John Pemberton. Did you know that he invented Coca Cola in 1886? That means people have been drinking Coke for 122 years!

It’s hard to imagine that people have been drinking a soft drink for so long isn’t it? The first people to taste Coca Cola were residents of Atlanta. In fact the very first people to regularly drink Coke were customers at Jacobs Pharmacy in Atlanta.

I guess that’s why the grand prize in the iCoke contest is a trip to Atlanta, Georgia.

The grand prize includes airfare to Atlanta Georgia for four, 3 days and 4 nights hotel accommodation, 2-day Coke Museum passes for four AND $1,000 US cash! Now that’s a cool prize. Secondary prizes include Cineplex Odeon gift certificates and Best Buy certificates.

To enter the contest you’ll first need to register at the iCoke.ca website. Once you’re registered you’ll need 500 Coke coins for each contest entry.

If you’re a Coke drinker it’s easy to start earning Coke coins. Just look under the cap on 591 ml or 2L Coca-Cola product bottles or find pin numbers on special promotion materials such as iCoke contest cards. You’ll find an alpha numeric code – that’s your pin. Just go to the iCoke website and submit your latest pin number. I believe each pin code is normally worth 500 Coke coins, but for a limited time you can get get 1,000 Coins from PINs found on specially-marked 591mL bottles of Coca-Cola® products. That’s worth two contest entries!

So what are you waiting for? Go register at iCoke! Then go through your recycling to find pin numbers that you weren’t aware you were throwing out, or go buy a bottle of Coke submit your pin number and enter the contest! I’ve already entered.
