I should be back to work very soon – Fingers Crossed

April 3, 2012 by Tricia

Last Friday I received good news and bad news about my former job at the hospital. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on this blog, but in the last month I’ve been busy trying to get my job back. I’ve been on medical leave from my Nursing job in the emergency Department of hospital just down the street from my home for several years, and amazingly they held my job for me even though I’ve been off for approximately six years.

Well, actually .. I don’t exactly have my old job anymore. My old position in emergency has been filled, so now Human Resources is apparently trying to find me a full time job elsewhere in the hospital. That’s the good news and the bad news I suppose … but there’s more bad news … the OC Health nurse that is handling my case told me that Human Resources was concerned that since I’ve been off for 6 years my nursing skills might be “rusty” and I might not qualify for whatever position they might find for me. That sounds like Bull to me since women take time off work all the time to have children and stay home until their child goes to school and most are able to re-enter the workforce again – nursing or other careers without huge problems. Believe me, my skills aren’t rusty. I’ve had some exceptional jobs in my career and I’m sure I’ll be fine with whatever they find for me … I just hope I like it. I really loved working in the ER. I mean I really really loved working in the ER.

I think things will work out for me, but if something happens and I don’t end up going back to the hospital perhaps I’ll look into an Online bs degree. I’ll definitely be submitting the resume that I updated last Friday to other hospitals!

I just don’t want to go looking for another job because technically I already have a full time job … they just have to tell me what it is. Hopefully I’ll be back to work (on moderated hours for a while) within a couple of weeks!

Enjoying the sun

March 22, 2012 by Tricia

It was such a beautiful day today. Actually it was a beautiful week! It was so warm and sunny – unbelievable. I know it’s March break and quite a few people probably went south or to the Caribbean but the weather here in Toronto was almost as good as what you’d get in most vacation spots. Honest!

The weather broke records this week. Not just here in Toronto but across the country.

Today was the warmest day of all. It was 86 F! When I went into my backyard this afternoon I seriously thought about going back inside and getting the patio furniture. I mean, it’s March .. it’s way to early to be thinking about setting up the Patio furniture for all I know we could have a snow storm next week but with the kind of weather we’ve had most of the last month let alone the whole winter I think I probably could start setting up for summer.

Speaking of summer and patio furniture, I might look for some new modern outdoor furniture to accompany the patio furniture that I currently have. I’ve always wanted an outdoor couch or a true outdoor room.

Has the weather been warmer than normal in your area too? If it has, are you getting outside to enjoy it?

Our dollar keeps going up

March 22, 2012 by Tricia

I keep watching our dollars value go up and up. I”m Canadian and our dollar has been worth more than the US dollar for a couple of months now. If I didn’t get paid most of my income in American dollars I wouldn’t mind so much, but with the conversion – often through Paypal who takes their own cut, I’m losing money.

Hmmm .. maybe I should just invest in gold bullion. Gold’s been staying high in value for the last year!

I feel bad hoping that the Canadian dollar falls below the US dollar again, but that’s what works best for me.

Walking the dog

March 10, 2012 by Tricia

I love taking my dog for her regular walk but tonight she was a pain to walk. She kept pulling and worse … she kept darting onto people’s lawns to grab sticks and branches or other things.

She was startling me when she’d run or dart to grab things. I guess at first I thought she was either startled or being chased so that scared me .. then when I realized that she’d just about pulled me off my feet and scared me just to get a stick behind a metal building .. well, that made me mad.

It was also kind of cold and windy out this evening when I took her out so our walk wasn’t quite as long as I’d planned.

I think one of the problems is that my husband and I have very different styles or rules when walking her .. my husband used to try to be strict with her when walking her but I think he’s slacked off lately or else my dog doesn’t respect his authority (I sound like Cartman from South Park now LOL) so when he’s been walking her for several days and I talk over she just tries pulling me all over the place .. but after I’ve walked her for a few days she walks by my side calmly without pulling .. so nice. Soon enough … I’ll be the only one walking her.

I don’t recommend the stress diet

March 10, 2012 by Tricia

I’ve been on a “stress diet” the last four months. I really don’t recommend it to anyone. Not at all, because what I’ve been going through stress wise is highly unpleasant, but there’s been one benefit that I don’t mind. I’ve managed to lose weight because of the stress that I’ve been under. Actually I’ve probably lost too much weight because of the stress that I’ve been under.

I’ve lost something like 35 pounds. I don’t even know anymore how much weight I’ve lost. I stopped weighing myself about a month ago when I’d lost about 30 pounds. My pants and tops have gotten a bit loser in that time but not dramatically so, so I don’t think I’ve lost anymore than an additional five pounds or so. Hopefully not more than that.

My hair dresser when I saw her last week could see the difference in my weight before I even took off my heavy winter coat .. so I guess it’s a fairly dramatic weight loss. However you’d never know it at home … my oblivious husband hasn’t said a word. I actually had to point out how much I’d lost … of course he’s lost quite a bit as well .. needless to say the stress that I’m going through has to do with my marriage. Sigh.

My hairdresser warned me not to lose anymore weight … but at the same time she was trying to learn how she can lose some weight of her own. LOL .. she kept asking me things about weight lose products like how does 7-dfbx work? and so on … maybe because I’m a nurse she thought I’d know about weight lose products too?

Anyway … since I have so much stress in my life and since my life is going through so many changes she decided to cheer me up and she offered to give me free highlights so I accepted her offer. So I went home that evening with blondish highlights in my short auburn hair and it looked great. Still does!
