Dreaming of a warm vacation

February 4, 2011 by Tricia

I was just saying how cold it’s been here in Toronto this winter. We certainly aren’t used to it being this cold. We’ve had it lucky the last few years as it’s actually been quite a bit warmer than usual the last few years during the winter … I guess we’re out of luck this year.

Well .. considering how cold it is this year it’s making me yearn to go on a holiday. On a whim I went looking at Hawaii cruise deals and flights to the Caribbean. We can’t afford a tropical holiday this year … but I can dream … especially on the days when the wind is blowing so very cold outside my door.

It’s so cold this winter!

February 4, 2011 by Tricia

It’s been so cold this winter. Last winter the temperatures were more spring like – honest, I’m not just waxing nostalgic.

I’m actually looking forward to the next few days because it’s going to be warmer out – close to zero Celsius and above zero for the first time all year. That’s nice when compared to the – 20 Celsius that we’ve been experiencing! I won’t mind seeing some melting snow either.

Inside the house we have two humidifiers. One small one upstairs and a large one on the main floor. We use them to help moisturize the air a little bit in the winter time otherwise the air would be extremely dry what with the furnace going on all the time.

We also have ceiling fans upstairs and on the main floor in a couple of the rooms. I think most of them are Hunter fans. In the summer we have the fans on all the time and the blades are going one direction (I can’t remember which direction they go right now) to help circulate and cool the air. In the winter we flip and switch on the fan and the fan blades go in the opposite direction and it actually helps circulate the warm air in the room so it helps us feel warmer.

At least it’s February and the ground hog saw it’s shadow … Spring is coming soon!

Planning a party for my niece

January 27, 2011 by Tricia

I was speaking with my sister in law earlier this evening and as usual she’s busy making plans months ahead of time. Her daughters 7th birthday happens to fall on Easter this year and she wants to hold a big combination birthday Easter celebration on that day.

See what I mean about how she likes to plan months in advance?

While we were talking on the phone I was looking online and I found a place that can get easter basket delivered that looks pretty good. I gave my sister in law the address so that she can check it out too.

I’m actually glad she called me about the party. I’d like to help her plan it. It might be fun.

Absolutely freezing this past weekend!

January 25, 2011 by Tricia

It seems that we always have one day every weekend where we run around to different stores buying the things we need to get us through the week. I guess it’s a good thing that for the most part we manage to get the majority of our shopping done each week in one day instead of shopping several times throughout the week.

This past Saturday was our big shopping day and we sure picked the coldest day of the year to go out. I really mean that. I was -33 Celsius outside during the DAY! For my American visitors that’s -27.4 F. Bone chillingly freezing!

Our neighbors were “visiting” their house and must have been doing some kind of toxic renovations because they had their windows open most of the day. Can you believe they had their windows open when it was that cold outside? They either really had to do whatever they were doing renovation wise and couldn’t put it off until it was a little warmer outside and would make a little more sense (and be a little less costly) to have the windows open all day or else they really aren’t all that smart!

In one of the areas that my husband and I went to do some of our shopping there seemed to be payday advance loans stores on almost every corner. You know … like donut or coffee shops. LOL I don’t think I’ve ever seen a street or area that had so many cash advance or money lending places so close together. Not that I’ve noticed before anyway. Strange. Perhaps that area has a higher incidence of people that borrow money? I suppose that information could be discovered. It was strange though.

Even though it was such a cold day in Toronto on Saturday I’m glad that we went out and got everything we needed because as it turned out, we spent a good portion of Sunday fixing our leaking upstairs toilet. Yeah … I can’t say that my husband nor I had a very fun weekend … but everything is done now.

Full after a very late dinner

January 17, 2011 by Tricia

We had a late dinner tonight. We just finished about an hour ago and I’m still full.

The reason why we had such a late dinner was because my husband got called in to work this afternoon. Normally he doesn’t work on Mondays, but someone was sick so he was called in to work in their place and he ended up working into the evening so we didn’t end up having dinner until about 9:45 pm or so.

We had a big dinner too … We had some left over turkey, rice, peas, grilled peppers, and cauliflower. Oh and a small salad on the side. We didn’t have big portions, but it was a big enough dinner. If we ate that much every night we’d need pills to lose weight! LOL Well maybe.

Perhaps instead of just taking the dog outside the house for her last outing of the evening maybe we’ll go for a walk around the neighborhood. That might be a good idea anyway as we’re expecting freezing rain tomorrow so the dog probably won’t be getting any long walks tomorrow.
