I want to get back to work at the hospital

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

It might be hard to believe, but I miss working in the Emergency Department at the hospital. Technically I’m still employed there as a nurse, but I’ve been on medical leave for over five years. I hope that I can go back one day soon.

I’m not sure what brought on this latest desire to get back to work, perhaps the fact that I was cleaning out my closets the other day moving winter clothes to the back and bringing summer clothes to the front when I came across all of my nursing uniforms. I want to get back into them someday soon.

I’ve also been to the hospital a few times this past month for some tests – MRI’s on my knees and an ultrasound on my thyroid, plus I somehow managed to get some cedar mulch in my right eye that had to be picked out in the ER, so yes I’ve been to the hospital a few time and I’ve seen lots of people that I know. Of course all of my old coworkers ask me every time they see me when I’m coming back and so on.

My Crohn’s has been quite a bit better lately so maybe it is possible that I can get back to work before the end of the year. We’ll see what happens. I’ve thought that before and had set backs.

I’m not getting any sleep

June 25, 2011 by Tricia

Sigh … It’s the weekend and you’d think that a person would be able to sleep in if they wanted to, wouldn’t you? Not around here … not if you’re me.

My neighbors toddler has been making a ton of noise next door since February. I don’t think I’ve had more than about three hours sleep a night since sometime in February. Believe me it’s really taking a toll on me. I mean, I have chronic pain and Crohn’s disease and no arthritis in my knee (who knows it might be Rheumatoid arthritis I still have to find out) so I should be getting a minimum of 8 hours sleep, not a scant three hours!

My problem, is that the kid starts crying or screaming at anywhere from 5 am to 6 am and then she bangs around the house next door (which is attached to our house as we live in a semi detached) yelling and thumping her feet all morning. Then, just when she’s going to go down for a nap at about 1 pm she often starts screaming at the top of her head and runs around their house slamming doors! Of course I can hear every scream and every word and feel all the vibrations from her running around and slamming the doors. It’s AWFUL! Everything that goes on in the morning is repeated throughout the day sometimes up until Midnight. This kids parents don’t even seem to have her on a regular bed time schedule.

We’ve talked to them about all the noise and they simply don’t seem to realize how noisy their kid is. Either that or they are totally deaf. They have tried to get her to be quieter, but in the last two weeks it’s gotten a lot noisier again. Now that the weather is nice I wish they’d just take their little girl out for a good portion of the day and tire her out. There’s a fantastic preschool playground that she could play in now that it’s summer time and I’d bet she’d sleep better at night if she burned off some energy.

Sigh … Maybe they’ll go for a two week vacation this summer and I’ll get some normal sleep while they’re gone. That might be the only way I’ll get some sleep if their little girl doesn’t stop making so much noise.

My new cellphone is here – Nokia N8

June 22, 2011 by Tricia

I finally got a new cellphone! The last time I got a new cellphone was in 2006 and that was from a marketing company so I was more than a little overdue for a new phone.

It’s a Nokia N8 and so far it seems to be pretty nice. It’s fully loaded with all kinds of things including and FM radio and a 12 megapixel Camera and Camcorder and maps. I’m still discovering everything about it as I’ve only had the phone since Monday. The only other phone that I really considered was the htc incredible s virgin but the Nokia N8 won out, likely because of the camera capabilities seeing as I’m a photographer.

I tested out the camera earlier today and it works very nicely. I’m still getting used to since I’m so used to my much larger “real” camera, but I think I’ll have fun comparing the picture quality between my 8 mpg Camera and my new Cellphone.

My husband starts his holiday next week

June 16, 2011 by Tricia

My husband is going to be on holiday for the last two weeks of June. We didn’t plan any big vacation though … we don’t have a lot of spare money and just a week after he returns to work he has a one week temporary layoff and then another one in August.

If we were rolling in dough four weeks off would be great .. but uhm … no, that’s not the way it works.

Anyway … sometime during Chris’ holiday I want to have a little get together, maybe a barbecue with friends. I was looking at this party invitation site and I came across all kinds of invitations, I even found Seafood Boil Invitations. I won’t be having a Sea Food boil since well .. sea food is kind of expensive and I’m also deadly allergic to it, but we’ll do something interesting.

I don’t know what we’ll do for the rest of the holiday, probably get things done around the house and then find some interesting things to do in the Toronto area. Good things for us that there’s lots to do in Toronto, especially at this time of year!

Rock Climbing is risky!

June 16, 2011 by Tricia

I was talking with one of my friends earlier today and I was very surprised by something that I learned. My friend is very outdoorsy … like I used to be before I got so sick.

She’s always out jogging, hiking and she goes rock climbing pretty much every weekend. I too used to rock climb regularly … so this is the part that really shocked me … Did you know that when you participate in activities like these that you might need higher risk life insurance? Yeah, it’s true.

She only found out because she recently applied for life insurance and I guess as she filled out the paperwork she listed her rock climbing activities and she was denied regular life insurance. Oops!
