Interesting News Day

April 17, 2012 by Tricia

This seems to be a historic day in many ways. I was just watching the news and I realized that it’s the 30th anniversary of the signing of The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms – April, 17th, 1982. The Charter is still controversial even 30 years after it was created!

Then … there was a story about the Space Shuttle Discovery’s last trip. It flew on the back of an airplane as it was taken to Washington to be placed in the Smithsonian Museum. It’s hard to believe that there aren’t going to be any more Space Shuttles and that there doesn’t seem to be anything created to replace them as of yet. Well … maybe these galactic looking boots might do the trick? They’re called Alpinestars SMX 5 Boots and to me they look like they’d be perfect for space travel. LOL Yeah I’m just kidding but do take a look, they’re funky.

In my little world .. nothing historic going on here I’m afraid. I’m tired, I’m hungry and I have sore feet. Hmmm … what to do.

A lot of friendly neighbors

April 15, 2011 by Tricia

I was outside earlier today, walking the dog around the block, and I ended up talking with my next door neighbor for about half an hour. Why is it all my close neighbors love to talk and talk and talk? Believe me .. it’s not me! LOL … it’s just a really friendly neighborhood I guess. I shouldn’t complain, I suppose.

Anyway .. my neighbor just left her job and right now she’s been staying home with their young toddler. I kind of already knew she or her husband must be home during the day with their child because there’s been a lot more day time noise next door lately. A lot more noise – believe me. Anyway .. she’s now looking for a new job and in the meantime she’s doing a bit of work from home. She might even do a complete change of career. She mentioned she was toying with the idea of possibly taking a medical assistance program which really would be a change of job for her since she’s in the computer field right now.

I guess sometime in the next few weeks she’ll decide what new job she’ll be doing or looking for, in the meantime she’s just trying to enjoy her extra time at home with her daughter. Oh and they’re also going to put up a new fence between our houses since the one that’s there is starting to fall down … so it’s probably good that she’ll be home when that’s going on too.

Are the people in your neighborhood friendly? Do you stop and talk with your neighbors or do you barely know the people that live near you?

Family gatherings and weather issues?

February 26, 2011 by Tricia

Last weekend we drove to Brantford to get together with my husbands family. We were belatedly celebrating my mother in laws birthday.

My husbands father went all out. He had us meet in a local restaurant and he had three flower baskets set up on the table and had asked the restaurant to give us a special menu for our early afternoon meal. I think he might have thought it was my mother in laws 75th birthday … but uh … if he did he was a year early.

It’s really strange, all of my husbands siblings have their teaching degrees? That’s his two sisters, his brother and even one of his brother in laws that all have teaching degrees. At one point my husband seriously considered becoming a teacher and I think he still catches him self considering it but I think it’s just because there are so many people in his family that are teachers. Actually even a couple of his aunts are teachers.

Anyway I guess the reason that I brought up the fact that I was sitting with a bunch of teachers was because just before our family get together there had been a huge storm in Southern Ontario, one that had been bad enough to cause several school boards to shut down schools. Even Toronto shut down schools and I happened to mention that we didn’t really get as much snow as expected on that particular storm day and that a lot of people were complaining that the schools shouldn’t have been shut down and well .. my brother in law exploded that I was wrong and it saved the city money and kept the roads free to be cleared … but uh … he’s from St. Catherines where they got three times more snow than we did on that day so yeah, it made more sense for them to shut down their schools, but not for us in Toronto. I just gritted my teeth and let it go.

Anyway .. the family gathering was a success overall. Just that one incident. I’ll remember not to talk about teaching issues or school closures – even due to weather or non weather issues – with that particular brother in law!

Interested in learning how to Salsa Dance online?

September 16, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve always enjoyed dancing, but I can’t say that I’ve done much dancing over the last few years. Oh sure when I attend a wedding or go to a party I’ll often be on the dance floor at least half the time. I kind of miss not dancing as much as I used to in the past.

Do you enjoy dancing? Or do you have two left feet?

If you’d like to try something different you might want to visit the Salsa BootCamp website. You can learn Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, and Bachata dance through their online course. Actually the site has really taken off. They apparently only opened up a few months ago to those who had signed up pre-launch and they’ve only just opened their doors to accept new students.

It seems like it’s a good dance course. There’s thousands of videos online that members can watch in order to learn all the the steps as they learn to Dance with Salsa Dancing BootCamp. The dance courses range from basic lessons to advanced dance steps.

I like the idea of learning new dance steps on your own time in the privacy of your home. I’m sure some people don’t sign up for dancing lessons at dance studios because they are too shy or perhaps might be embarrassed that they don’t know how to dance. The Salsa, Merengue & Bachata Dance Bootcamp would be perfect for those who lack confidence and want to become acquainted with some of the dance moves before going out to dance in public.

I would imagine people with busy lifestyles and children to care for might also like the idea of learning how to Salsa or Merengue through an online course rather than at a set time each and every week.

If the Salsa Bootcamp sounds like a great idea to you why don’t you visit the site. You can sign up for a free three day membership in order to check out the site and begin some lessons. You’ll also get two free DVDs just for signing up!
