Did you make any New Year resolutions?

January 3, 2011 by Tricia

Happy New Year!

So … did any of you brave souls make any new year resolutions? Have you managed to keep them up to day three of the new year or have you broken them already?

I didn’t really make any resolutions. If I did at all it would have been to go to be earlier. I’m a chronic night owl and I’m sure I’d feel a little better overall if I’d just go to bed an hour or two earlier each night. IF that was my resolution it’s broken already … I went to bed very late on the first night of the year, but I’ve been doing better the last two nights, maybe it will work.

I did managed to quit smoking in October (October 12th!) and yes, I’m still not smoking. Going on three months … so that’s going well. That’s a big resolution that people tend to make at the start of the new year, I guess I made mine early when the pressure wouldn’t be on me.

One of my friends vowed to lose weight. 15 pounds before spring! I think she’s looking for a weight loss supplement but I know that just watching what you eat and stepping up your activity really does help.

So … let me know if you made any new year resolutions and if you’ve managed to stick to them so far.

I think I missed out on some big sales today

December 18, 2010 by Tricia

I just happened to turn on the news and they were doing a report about how it’s “Super Saturday here in Canada” or for all I know, maybe it’s super Saturday all over North America.

I guess it’s a big shopping day full of super sales. I did not know that. Now I’m upset that I decided to put off the last of my shopping until Monday! Maybe I could have got a really good deal or two if I’d gone shopping today instead.

I know that I’ve been receiving some email flyers that have some amazing deals on desktop computers and other electronics. I was seriously tempted to buy an XBox the other day when I saw one on sale. I’d use it – but probably not quite often enough to make it worth buying- especially when we really don’t have any spare money right now.

Did you go shopping today? Did you catch any good sales?

Almost ready for Christmas

December 17, 2010 by Tricia

I’m almost ready for Christmas … well, if that’s ever possible to say! Honestly I still have a couple of presents to buy, and a little bit of cooking to do – but, hey, I did manage to get the Christmas cards sent out earlier today. That’s a start, especially since I don’t usually send Christmas cards at all.

I was really happy with the Christmas cards I sent out this year. They’re recycled Christmas cards and they were really pretty. I felt like I was doing my “green” part by using recycled material.

I was going to do the last of my shopping tomorrow … but my husband is just started two weeks of temporarily lay off so now I”m thinking … why go shopping on Saturday when everyone else is out and the malls are all crowded and crazy? Since my husband is off work we could go on Monday and I’m sure it will be a lot more relaxing .. a little less hustle and bustle – right? So maybe tomorrow and Sunday I’ll get whatever cooking done that I need to finish and then during the week we’ll finish our shopping. Sounds like a plan to me.

How are you doing – are you ready for Christmas?

It’s freezing! Brrrrr

December 15, 2010 by Tricia

I can’t believe how cold it is here in Toronto this week.

Monday was the worst. It was -27 Celsius (16.6 f) with the windchill (-18 C -.4 F without it which is cold enough!). Our furnace was on most of the day. On and off, on and off it went. On top of that, our power kept going out all day too, which of course is very scary when it’s that cold out.

I remember waking up just after 7 am because the furnace made a weird sound and I realized that the power had just gone out. I think that was the first time it went out that day and luckily it was only out for about five minutes. It didn’t go out again until about 3 pm and at that time it went on and off quickly three or four times. Then it went off again around 6 pm, then 7 pm and then at about 10 pm it went on and off several times over a half our period. Then it did that again at about 11 pm and then 11:30 pm. I think our power went out about 30 times on Monday.

We did call the power company and heard a recording about the power outages in our area. I guess the problem was called Auto renewal and they must have had power crews working on it all day. I think it actually took until some time on Tuesday to fix it because I know the power went out at least twice on Tuesday morning.

Every time the power went out on Monday I got a little more stressed. I kept being afraid that the power would be out for hours. The house would be freezing cold in no time if that happened!

Anyway … since Monday it’s been a little warmer, but it’s still extremely cold. It was -18 Celsius (-.4 F) with the windchill on Tuesday and I think it was -16 Celsius (3.2 F) with the Windchill earlier today as well.

If this keeps up I’m going to go rooting in my closet and try to find our electric blanket and if I can’t find it … well I just might go out and buy one! Our master bedroom is the coldest room in the house so anything that can keep us a little warmer as we try to sleep in this cold would help!

Has it been extremely cold in your area too? We’ve had some snow, but compared to the cold it’s nothing to complain about.

Another shopping trip

December 15, 2010 by Tricia

I’m just waiting for my husband to get home from work and then we’re going out shopping.

I need to go to Costco tonight. I saw my family doctor yesterday for a regular appointment but while I was there I told her about how I’ve been so very very cold lately as well as extremely tired and she seems to think that I might have Seasonal Affective Disorder. I think it’s my thyroid acting up … especially since my symptoms totally fit hypothyroidism and only partially fit S.A.D. but the light might be worth getting to help fix my sleep cycle if nothing else.

Anyway .. while we’re out shopping I might take a look at the women’s apparel section of the store … or perhaps talk my husband into going to another nearby store if I can. I need new clothes – badly! Everything I own is loose on me, I desperately need new pants, new tops, new sweaters and so on.

Plus .. who doesn’t love a shopping spree? LOL
