The garden is snapping!

Rich red snapdragons.

Mine are still blooming away thanks to the heatwave we had last week.

In fact just about everything in my garden that had any bloom ability left is blooming away right now.

The temperatures are finally at a more seasonal level – like 50 to 60 F rather than almost 100F. Perhaps my plants will now start to get the message that it’s time to go dormant for the winter?

Strangely warm weather keeps us supplied with berries

Can you believe this? It’s October already and look what’s still producing delicious fruit in my backyard …

Yummy raspberries ripening on the vine.

There are so many berries that I can still go out and pick enough for my husband and I to enjoy at least every three days or so.

The raspberry bushes have been producing raspberries since as early as mid-July, which is early for raspberries in these parts. They usually don’t start producing ripe fruit until mid-August or so.

Yesterday the humidity here in Toronto was so high that we had our air conditioning on. It was only in the mid-20’s Celsius wise (72 – 75 F) but the humidity made if feel much warmer and made us feel sticky and wiped out. So on went the air conditioning.

Normally at this time of year it’s not uncommon for our furnace to have come on at least once or twice on a few cold evenings or nights. So far our furnace has been silent. We’ve either had windows open to let nice fresh air in the house, fans on or as I said above we’ve even had the air conditioning on. It’s getting ridiculous as I don’t believe I’ve ever had air conditioning on in October.

The beach at Sunset

September 22, 2007 by Tricia

IMG_1342

I don’t think there’s any better combination than a sunset over water.

I took this photo during the summer during one of our many visits to The Beach area in Toronto.

I love this city as there is so much to do here. Live theater, festivals – one being the Toronto Film Festival that just ended, nightlife, the many parks and of course the beautiful beach area.

Lake Ontario is huge. If you’ve never seen it before and didn’t know it was one of the Great Lakes you’d probably think it was the ocean. I know my photos of it have fooled many people into thinking I live by the sea!

Do you have a beach area in your city or town?

We had a great time on our dinner boat cruise

September 5, 2007 by Tricia

I took this photo while on our dinner boat cruise on Saturday evening. We were on a boat cruising around on Lake Ontario just outside of Toronto. I went up on deck about a half hour before sunset and stayed there until the sun was almost down snapping approximately 200 photos of the lovely scenery as the boat slowly moved across the lake.

What a beautiful evening we had. I’d highly recommend the Toronto Dinner boat cruises if your visiting the city or even if you live in the area and want to impress your date. The dinner was served as a buffet and it was delicious.

Oh, we had a couple sitting at the table beside us who were celebrating their five year wedding anniversary. They were dressed in the same clothes they wore to their wedding. She wore a simple white wedding gown and he wore a tuxedo. Everyone thought that they’d just been married, but it was their anniversary. They must be a very romantic couple.

The weekend before last my husbands brother came to visit from Chicago. We had a very busy few days and there were a lot of people in our house!

On the Sunday we went to the beach with some friends. It was raining, but it was such a hot day we didn’t mind and we also didn’t expect it to rain for very long. It turned out that it rained for at least three hours but we still spent some time sitting at the beach club, had some drinks and had an enjoyable time.

When the weather cleared up in the late afternoon my husband and his brother went for a dip in the lake. They had a nice swim and as you can see they appeared to be pretty happy when they emerged from the lake.

Actually, my husband gets along with his brother quite well and he’s always very happy when he gets a chance to see his brother, so I had a happy husband that week.
