Redneck neighbors moved! Well, almost …

August 19, 2009 by Tricia

I was so happy last Saturday when I got up that I was almost jumping for joy! Why … well, the Redneck renter neighbors next door had a truck outside and it appeared they were haphazardly loading it up to move!

Figures they’d pick, what was up to that point the hottest day in the year (Monday was the hottest) to move!

I was so happy! You see, we knew they were moving but whenever we’d ask them when they’d always say they weren’t moving out until the end of the month. I always thought they were kind of lying as it was obvious that they already had control of the other house and were painting it and slowly moving some of the things they could carry by hand or car over the last month.

It wasn’t until the evening that I knew for sure that they probably weren’t going to be back at the house much … you see they took their window air-conditioner out and packed their BBQ into the van. Yeah!

Oh and what terrible movers they were! It seems like they didn’t prepare their move by getting boxes or disassembling furniture or even moving things to one room of the house for an easier move … things came out one by one, in bags or in fully assemble states. The last van load that I saw they put their big couch in upside down and jammed their barbecue in beside it. If they’d turned the couch upright they could have put boxes or small items on top of it … but because they put it in so badly they could only put two things in the big truck???? DUMB.

Anyway … I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to be moving over the weekend. Just going outside coated you in sweat because the temperatures were so high as was the humidity. They were just dripping sweat. I’m sure an acne treatment is in their future!

So … the redneck neighbors still have some furniture in their house. Maybe they’ll get the rest this coming weekend … but for our peace of mind, they’re as good as gone and oh … we have our driveway back! No more big boat of a car blocking the whole lane way! Yeah!

My husbands bird like aunt

August 19, 2009 by Tricia

My in-laws were visiting over the weekend. I’m still recovering!

They were visiting because my husbands uncle is in poor health and my husband was sort of taking care of his sick uncle (along with his cousin’s help) over the weekend.

I seriously think my husbands Aunt, who was also visiting and staying with us over the weekend will be the next one to get sick. She’s super skinny. Like you can feel every single bone in her back and shoulders when you carefully attempt to give her a hug! It’s like she tried ever supplement on the best fat burner list!

She exists mainly on what we call bird food. Every month or so, she and my mother in law come to Toronto for a visit and during each visit they spend about three hours at The Big Carrot (a huge local health food store). My husbands aunt comes back with products like Millet puffs and things like that. I swear she probably only eats about 500 calories a day.

Do you have any relatives that worry you over their poor eating habits?

Love the heat – hate the humidity!

August 16, 2009 by Tricia

I hate to complain about the weather considering that we’re finally having decent weather and heat (yes our first and probably last week of summer is going on right now) … but it’s so hot and humid that I’ve basically been shut inside all weekend!

I’m sure if I felt better I would have been outside doing things, but my Crohn’s disease is acting up (what else is new?) and combining those symptoms and the pain with the heat and humidity is a bad idea!

I actually like it when it’s nice and warm outside. It’s just the humidity that I don’t like. The air gets thick and it feels like your swimming around instead of walking!

What kind of weather do you like best? Hot, hot and humid, comfortable (21 C to 24 C (70 to 75 F) or do you like it best when it’s cold outside? Me – I like the comfortable to hot range – but not the humidity!

Off topic ads?

August 11, 2009 by Tricia

I have the strangest thing happening on one of my blogs lately. One of the advertising companies I use to supply ads has been showing some totally irrelevant ads – at least on my end.

It’s on my gardening blog. I’m seeing ads for weight loss supplements and oddly enough one that says moving companies Los Angeles. Odd.

It’s especially odd when you consider that I talk about my garden, give gardening tips and discuss specific plants on that blog. Nothing close to the ad topics that have been showing up!

Do you use advertising on your site? If you do, have you noticed that occasionally your ads just don’t fit with your sites main topics?

Why can’t people just get along?

August 6, 2009 by Tricia

There are days that I just hate the internet!

Seriously! As some of you know I have several websites and blogs that I try to maintain on a daily or at least weekly basis. On top of that there’s all the social sites that one needs to be a member of in order to list and promote your sites and make connections with other bloggers and webmasters.

Not to mention forums and maybe even discussion or mailing lists!

It’s the mailing lists that have me frustrated today. A long long time ago (1995 or so) I was really into reptiles … lizards to be perfectly honest. You see I’m allergic to cats, dogs and birds (yes I do have a dog now but I live on allergy meds!) so reptiles were the perfect and in fact pretty much only pet I could have.

To make a long story short – I fell in love with Chinese water dragons and Iguanas. Most people buying reptile pets don’t have a lot of knowledge about their care and it’s still hard to find good information on the net, in a pet store or even from a Veterinarian about their care …. so I learned as much as I could about Chinese Water Dragons and started my Huge website in 1995. As my knowledge grew so did my site.

Along the way I started a mailing list for Water dragon keepers. I also took over a failing Turtle list and an Uromastyx lizard list. The turtle list imploded a few years ago when people couldn’t get along and now I think the same things going to happen with the uromastyx list.

Have you ever been in a forum or on a discussion list where the posts got heated and people started picking on one another … well that’s what’s happening on my Uro list.

I only have a few rules – stay on topic, no off topic posts, be polite and take heated discussions off the list. I don’t think that’s too hard to follow – right?

Well I just gave the list a big colon cleanse with a terse ADMIN post telling them to behave or else I’d shut down the list. It’s their choice!

Do any of you run forums or online discussion lists or mailing lists. Aren’t they hard to manage when people start OT discussions or arguing? Geesh!
